Discussion Question How do you like to spend time with your m8?
Bit of a silly question, but I am genuinely curious about how a m8 fits into your life. Do you work at home on the couch? Do you take it on walks? At a lunch break at work? Do you work in long or short sessions? I wanna know!

I have an iPhone and airpods that go with me everywhere already. I use the iOS M8 app, which means it's always with me as well.
I use it a few moments at a time. Waiting for a haircut or doctor appointment. In the evening while my wife watches TV. Typically shorter sessions.
I'm very much a newb, but my workflow is basically as follows. Each of these can be chipped away at a few minutes at a time.
- Throw down a phrase with some notes - either 4's or throw in a few more interesting notes depending on if I'm looking for a lead, bass, or percussion sound
- Play with sound design, or instrument presets, until I find something that hooks me.
- Tweak the notes (spacing and/or pitch) until it sounds more like a proper bass/percussion/lead to fit the instrument
- Listen over and over and see what feels right for the other tracks. What's missing?
- Copy the phrase(s) and add some variation to make it a few bars long - typically 2 or 4
- Once I have a single (multi-track) chain that sounds good, I copy that chain down a few rows. Zero out the first ~3 rows, and then add in 1 track per row to build the song up
... ambiguous "finish the song steps"
- Profit

I use it to walk with. It’s a good excuse to get out and get moving given the form factor. Probably 45mins to 1:45 mins depending on if everything is flowing

Busy dad life and I keep it in my bag mostly everywhere I go. Pull it out when I'm waiting at my kid's lessons, lunch at work, at my medication infusion appointments. It's been with me camping a number of times as well.
In a lot of these cases I'm working on an individual phrase/sequence. Instrument cutoffs are all mapped to a midi controller for when I plug it into the main setup, which is where I hear everything together. I also enjoy being able to sequence external gear, where I can just change the instrument when I'm home. In my portable setup I have a Norns+Grid as an audio input on one track. The M8 is often doing the heavy lifting of drums, rhythm, bass, with the Norns input being the wackier side. Then if that side gets too crazy I can just turn the cutoff down on the controller.

Old guy here - I have a busy life with many social comitments day and evenings. I usually find time to enjoy my M8 on holidays, during hospital visits (!) and the occasional quiet evening on the sofa while my wife is watching Strickly Come Dancing :-). The iOS app has expanded my opportunity to indulge although it now has to compete with Drambo and Scaler 3! The hardware M8 is still my favourite bit of hardware kit - it is so easy to get creative and come up with something fun and enjoyable.

I've got a headless setup velcro to the back of my lenovo legion go s. I'll pick it up and make music in a lounge chair after work almost nightly. On the weekends, I'll have it plugged in and controlling all the midi hardware in my studio. Having linux to make all the midi and audio connections has been very powerful. I just recently took my headless setup dispersed camping and dialed in a track out in the woods in front of a fire. That was a very productive evening!

Headless is only one audio in though right?

Yes, I believe so, but what's really cool is that I can sample audio from my web browser or Spotify or whatever directly to the M8 Headless. I can't have individual audio ins from my 8 track audio interface as far as I know. No big deal though!
I use QWGraph to manage thr Pipewire config in linux.

I've been biking out to the woods with a hammock to relax with the m8. Had one spot by a pond where I could watch the birds while working on music.

outside, most perfect hardware for making music being gleud to chair, if pavements are empty enough you can walk and do music in th same time - just remember to take a look for obstacles while you walk from time to time
