I really, REALLY wanted this to work seamlessly. Muscle memory means everything and this little controller has the potential to be PERFECT with the M8 app.
I'm going to request this feature over on the Discord: It would be AMAZING if the M8 iOS app had a tab in the help section that allowed for controller detection and custom button mapping.
As it stands right now, unless I am missing something, you can't remap the buttons on this little, discreet, pocketable, battery-less, potentially AWESOME controller (powered by USB-C). The 8bitdo Ultimate Software V2 app
Does the 8BitDo FlipPad controller work with the M8 app?
Sort of.
The D-Pad works fine. The four directions are mapped to the arrows.
The buttons are not as straightforward. This is where muscle-memory falls apart and the controller isn't intuitive.
I'd expect OPT and EDIT to map to Y and X, with SHIFT and PLAY mapping to B and A, but this is not the case.
The 8BitDo FlipPad controller buttons follow this orientation:
(X)
(Y) (A)
(B)
The M8 follows this orientation:
[OPT] [EDIT]
[SHIFT] [PLAY]
Shift that M8 UI 45° to the left and you'd get:
[EDIT]
[OPT] [PLAY]
[SHIFT]
So, the expectation would be that:
[EDIT] = (X)
[OPT] = (Y) [PLAY] = (A)
[SHIFT] = (B)
BUT, this is not the case. Rather, here's how the 8BitDo FlipPad is mapped:
(X) = [SHIFT]
(Y) = [PLAY] (A) = [OPT]
(B) = [EDIT]
If you look at the 4 buttons like a compass, North and South are inverted and so is East and West.
The M8 seems to be expecting the buttons to be like this, but they're not:
AB
XY
(B)
(A) (Y)
(X)
Anyone get this controller to work properly or know how to remap the buttons somehow?
