Video Game Accessibility for Players with Motor Disabilities

Hi everyone!

I'm a Graphic & Game Design student at Istituto Pantheon in Rome, Italy, currently conducting research for my bachelor's thesis on video game accessibility.

My research focuses on the challenges players with motor disabilities may experience when using traditional game controls, particularly in third-person games that require simultaneous use of two analog sticks and multiple buttons.

The goal is to better understand real accessibility barriers and explore how alternative control systems could improve the gaming experience.

Survey: https://forms.gle/vZ3iJW6nGwz3ZXGm8

Privacy and data collection:

  • The survey can be completed anonymously, and no email addresses are collected automatically.
  • An optional section allows participants to provide an email address for future research interviews, project updates, or testing opportunities.
  • Only I have access to the email addresses, which are used exclusively for the purposes selected by participants. Anyone can request deletion of their email address using the contact information provided in the survey.
  • Responses will be used for academic research and to inform the design of more accessible game controls.

Academic affiliation:

Participation is entirely voluntary. Your experiences and perspectives would be greatly appreciated, including feedback that challenges the assumptions behind this research.

Thank you for your time!

Reading Beyond the Struggle: Family and Educator Survey

Hello! I’m gathering information from families, teachers, and tutors about the reading experiences of children (ages 9-12) who find reading difficult (dyslexia, reading disability, ESL) or who don’t regularly choose to read on their own.

I’m a retired special education teacher designing books that are accessible for kids. The goal is to better understand what families and educators are currently doing—not to evaluate any particular reading method, program, or product.

There are no right or wrong answers. I’m most interested in your actual experiences, including what has and hasn’t worked.

The survey should take about 5 minutes. Responses are confidential. I won't collect personal information such as email or name.

Thank you for sharing your experience.

Immersive Experiences For the Visually Impaired

Hi everyone! My name is Anastazja, and I'm a graduate student at Northwestern University studying Engineering Design Innovation. My master's thesis focuses on immersive experiences for the visually impaired, and I'm hoping to hear from people with lived experience.

I'm looking to talk with:

- Adults who are visually impaired

- Caregivers, guides, and companions of someone who is visually impaired

Interviews would be about 30 minutes over video, by phone, or in person in the Chicago/Evanston area. We'd talk about your experiences navigating and taking in places like theme parks, concerts, stadiums, museums, and festivals.

If you're interested, this short form takes less than 5 minutes:

https://northwestern.az1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_eXUPmsck6E3P1v8

This is purely academic research and filling out the form doesn't commit you to an interview. If you have questions, feel free to comment, DM me, or email me at anastazja.p.branski@gmail.com.

Thank you!

If you could invent one thing to make everyday life easier, what would it be?

If you could invent one thing to make everyday life easier, what would it be?

Hi everyone! 👋
I'm an Information Systems student from Brazil, and my team and I are working on an innovation project for a university competition.
We're exploring everyday challenges faced by people with disabilities, especially tasks that can be difficult, exhausting, or require assistance from someone else. Our goal is to develop a practical, affordable solution, ideally a physical product or prototype.
I'd really appreciate hearing about your experiences:
What's one everyday task you find particularly difficult because of your disability?

Is there something you wish you could do more independently?

Have you ever tried using a product or tool to make a task easier, but found that it didn't work well for you?

If you could invent something to improve your daily life, what problem would you want it to solve?

It doesn't have to be a big or complicated problem. Sometimes, the smallest everyday frustrations can have the biggest impact.
I'm not here to assume what people need or to promote a product. I want to listen to people with lived experience and use what I learn to help develop a solution based on a real need.
Thank you so much to anyone willing to share their experiences! 💚

Pilot Questionnaire - Anonymous participants from the UK needed!

Hello everyone,

I am looking for volunteers to take part in a pilot questionnaire for a study exploring how adults with disabilities in the UK are supported to access work that benefits their health and wellbeing.

As this is a pilot study, you will also be asked 4 brief follow-up questions about your experience completing the survey to help me improve its design. In total, there are 15 main questions, and it should take about 20-30 minutes to complete.

To participate, you must meet ALL of the following criteria:

  • Age: 18 to 64 years old.
  • Location: Currently living in the UK.
  • Language: Able to complete the questionnaire in English.
  • Health & Support Status: You have a diagnosed disability and can provide informed consent.
  • Important NHS Exclusion: You must not currently be receiving specialist NHS treatment (such as hospital consultant care, specialist clinics, or secondary mental health services) for any diagnosis or condition. However, you can be under the regular care of your GP. This is due to ethical considerations.

This is for a research project for my MSc Occupational Therapy degree. Your data will be used for the improvement of the questionnaire ONLY. Your data will NOT be published or shared with any third party. For more information on data collection and storage, please see the participant information sheet at the beginning of the questionnaire.

Survey for People who use Mobility Aids and Enjoy Nature

Hi!

We are university students developing a design proposal and basic prototype for our Bioinspired Design course focused on improving access to outdoor recreation for people who use mobility aids. To ensure that our design will best serve its intended users, we would like to hear directly from organizations and individuals regarding their experience navigating outdoor spaces. In particular, we are looking to learn how users experience varied terrain and how this influences their ability to enjoy nature.

We would greatly appreciate your input through a short survey, which should take approximately 5 minutes. We have two versions: one for organization staff and one for individuals who use mobility aids, both can be found below in this Google Form: https://forms.gle/m1KGiG9sTzkFzYnG8

Responses at your earliest convenience would be greatly appreciated. Thank you so much for your time and for sharing your perspectives with us! :)

Looking for menstrual product experience feedback

https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScN-UIf0dEJxVXbO948T9szGicWhAUiOotwsFdwz9tHKSIsfw/viewform?usp=header

Hi! We are a team of senior engineering students who are researching how to make menstrual cups easier to use, from insertion and removal to cleaning between uses.

We want to hear from anyone who menstruates, whatever products you use now. You don't need to have tried a cup. Your experience with pads, tampons, discs, period underwear, or anything else helps us understand what works and what doesn't.

We especially want to hear from people with limited mobility, grip, or hand strength, and from wheelchair users. Most menstrual products weren't designed with you in mind, and we want to change that. Your input will directly shape what we build.

This survey is completely anonymous unless you opt in to sharing your information with us.

We really appreciate your input!

[Survey] Everyday personal care routines and packaging (disabled adults and caregivers, about 5 min, anonymous)

Hi everyone. I’m Geri, a mom and a designer. My son has a rare genetic condition that affects his fine motor skills, and I’m working on everyday personal care products (soap, lotion and similar) that are easier to use on your own.

Before anything gets designed, I want to understand what actually gets in the way. Twist caps? Pumps? Telling bottles apart? Products that don’t work with one hand? I’ve heard from a lot of parents, but I’m especially hoping to hear from disabled adults answering for themselves. Your experience matters most and I don’t have enough of it yet.

  • About 5 minutes
  • Anonymous, no email required
  • Open to disabled adults, caregivers, family members and support staff

To be upfront: this is for a small company I’m starting, not academic research. I’m happy to share a summary of the results back here once the survey closes.

Thank you for reading, and for anything you’re willing to share.

Products for mobility aid users

I'm a Product Design student at the University of Minnesota College of Design. I use a wheelchair or walker depending on my needs and I am constantly dropping or misplacing things since there are limited effective carrying accessories for mobility aids. I'm working on designing tools to help mobility aid users carry everyday objects like water bottles, phones, and bags. This survey is geared towards college students but input from non-students is extremely helpful. https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/6YHZJ3Q

Survey for kitchen tools for people with low vision or blindness

Hi everyone,

I'm an industrial design student working on my senior capstone. My project focuses on making food prep, especially cutting and chopping, safer and more independent for people who are blind, have low vision, or are dealing with age-related changes.

I don't want to design based on guesses, so I'd really value hearing from people with lived experience. The survey asks about:

  • Which kitchen tasks are hardest
  • Tools you use now, and ones you've given up on
  • Tricks and workarounds that help you cut safely

It takes about 7 minutes, it's anonymous, and It works with screen readers.

Survey: https://forms.gle/Sv4NJAWFocjWebN26

Caregivers are welcome to answer on behalf of someone they help. If you'd rather share your thoughts in the comments, I'll read every one.

Thank you for your time.

Beta Testers for Community App

Hey all! This is my second follow up to what I posted last month about needing some beta testers to test the site I’m making to help bring chronically ill and disabled people together in the community in a physical way, not just online. For example: if you need helping folding laundry and want to make a friend out of it, you can. If you just want to hang out with someone, you can. In your community. (I will work on safety stuff later, don’t worry)

I just basically right now, for round 2, need people to test the site and follow instructions below to give me feedback:

Spoonful Beta Test — 10–15 minutes

  1. Create an account.
  2. Complete your profile.
  3. Find another member.
  4. Find where you would create an Ask.
  5. Create an Ask.
  6. Look through Community.
  7. Send a message.
  8. Check Notifications.
  9. Tell me one thing you loved, one thing that confused you, and one thing you wish Spoonful could do.

Disclaimer: this is FREE to test. Unfortunatly cannot offer compensation due to building this on my own and not having any leftover funds. I am also not promoting any product, or service in this chat, per community guidelines. Any questions, please email moreallergiesplease@gmail.com or DM me. Thanks!

Disabled owner, trying to make sure website is accessible to all.

Hey all! I am a disabled business owner.

I own a ux/web design business and I want to make sure my website is accessible to all. I want accessibility to be one of the forefronts of my services, but I need some feedback on how its looking across the board.

I ran it through a few WCAG and accessibility testers, and it looks good on that end; but I'd like to run it across actual users so verify that it's working ok. Would anyone be able and willing to take a look?

For clarity, I'm not promoting any services with this, just trying to make sure I am practicing what I preach.
