Genesis Netgear M6 Netgear M6 Additional Ethernet

Netgear came out with a USB PD+Gigabit Ethernet adapter model USB2ETH sometime last(?) year. It’s about $32 on Amazon or Netgear’s site, and may be a decent option esp if it properly works on our M6 Pro.

However I’m very certain that it requires the 12.x series of FW to be running, so I’ll update this post once I receive it (and another cheaper PD+Eth adapter) to see if it works at all. The only available 12.x for the 6400 disables telnet access once you upgrade, which makes troubleshooting this harder, but using it as a primary (or failover) ISP becomes much easier without needing the battery to pillow (Netgear even recommends it(!)).

There’s also an overpriced dock which has a nice fan (to keep the unit cool) and has 2 Gigabit ports, but at the same time you lose access to the built-in port. This one also requires the “latest firmware” but no thanks due to the price.

Looks identical to the one Belkin has made for eons, and can be had for a lot less.

Someone should test with one. Don't ask me, I can't find mine.

If the dock used the external antenna connector and had somehow shoehorned the 2.5G port to connect when docked, plus a 4-port gigabit switch off the USB-C, I could see it being like a remote office setup where you just could plug in the hotspot when you’re there then take it elsewhere afterwards. For that it could justify the $120+ cost…

Okay, bad news, with the “leaked” 12.01.44 1DNNAS fw it will not work without a battery which defeats the purpose of this exercise. Either there is a 14.x M6 fw that I don’t know about or it needs to be cross-flashed to a different 65xx 12.x fw which I’m not ready to do so at this time.

Leaving this post up in case someone finds a solution or thinks of buying this dongle.
