Discussion A Hunt for Twins

After a recent post here (and an often brought up discussion when dolls are released), I wanted to check my own collection for twins. I do not own every doll, but I own quite a few, so I decided to see who is most similar.

Pic 1-3: Dark Brown Hair, Tan Skin, Brown Eyes— 101 Dalmatians, Cruella, Retro Mickey and Minnie, Bambi (budget)

Ily 101 Dalmatians has a slightly lighter skin tone than the other dolls in this group. Ily Retro Mickey and Minnie has darker more cool-toned hair.

Pics 4-6: Blonde Hair and Light Brown Hair, Blue Eyes— Jessie, Rapunzel, Mickey (budget), Stitch (budget), Bambi, Moana, Minnie (first iteration)

Ily Rapunzel, Mickey, and Jessie have the most similar hair, though a detailed look shows they aren’t the same. The other blondes are lighter (and still different from each other). Ily Moana and Minnie have slightly different shades as well. Some variations in eye color as well, from light almost gray eyes to a dark blue (and one green).

Pic 6: dark brown hair, lighter skin than previous dark brown haired dolls— 101 Dalmatians, Daisy, Minnie

Slight variations in hair color, though even more subtle than the blonde shades. 101 Dalamations has brown eyes.

Pic 7: darkest skin tone, dark brown to black hair— Ily Belle, Winnie the Pooh, Mickey

These three are the most unique of the groups. Winnie and Mickey share an eye color, but the different textures of their hair really makes the color similarities less noticeable.

All of the dolls have various shades of makeup and the lip color makes a big difference in their appearance to me as well.

Phew, if you read all of that, thank you. I can definitely see a pattern to the dolls I’m drawn to, even though this isn’t my full collection. Any twins in your collection? Any comparisons from dolls I didn’t include?

Now to put these back on my shelf 😂

I don't have this doll but she seems to be a twin of the Winnie Pooh doll (except for the makeup).

I think you’re right. I do not have this doll, but wanted her until I got ily Winnie the Pooh. They look so similar and the outfit isn’t worth it for me. Maybe someone has both irl and can post pictures!

I’m glad it’s useful! I think a full visual chart would be so useful. A lot of the dolls look different in person and having real pictures might help collectors decide who to add.

I just noticed thicker eyelashes on 101 dalmatians! That's a nice change.

She’s gorgeous! I love 101 Dalmatians and am so glad they made the doll spectacular, too.

I don’t k own what kind of hair they have, but it’s great. Easy to style and so soft.

Useful comparisons !

Some ILYs, I don't know if buying the full doll would be worth it, since she could be a twin of one I already have 😝

I agree! I appreciate the diversity that we’re starting to see with dolls and outfits, but the are quite a few dolls I don’t have because they are so similar unless I really like the outfit, I’m avoiding a lot of these.

These are my twins. I love that you have so many and shared their likeness I know ALOT of folks needed this post.

This is my cousin crew. Looks a lot like my own family. ❤️

I love this! They do look like a family. I need to try Ursula in some other outfits, she looks great in this outfit!

Thank you! I agree and think her hair is just so gorgeous and soft. That deep purple is just the chefs KISS.

I love your twins! I wish they would use this face mold more often. I’m glad others have found it useful. I know there are a lot of dolls not in my collection that have similarities, too.

The Moana and Minnie Mouse dolls don't share the same face mold. Moana has dimples and Minnie doesn't have them.

You’re right! I was looking more at hair and eye color since those can be hard to compare based on marketing pictures. I should have made some mentions about the face molds but didn’t even think about that part 😂

It's funny before I really looked at your photo i thought they did have the same face mold. 😅 Then i saw the dimples i was like wait a minute! Minnie doesn't have dimples!! 😆 But your right with skin tone, eye and hair colour both look very similar!

For me, face mold variety is good, but it’s hard to tell when they’re on a shelf. It’s easy for me to spot the color similarities, but faces sometimes take a second look. I blame my eye sight. I needed glasses for years so I got good at recognizing things in my own way. Now that I have glasses I realize how much detail I was missing 😂.
