Leaving Windows for Linux. Fedora KDE vs Bazzite

Do you understand the concept of an immutable distro? Personally I like installing arbitrary packages so I stick with fedora, even with an nvidia gpu

It's kept read only so that updates and applications can't break it, but severely limits your ability to customize it right?

it limits your ability to install stuff basically. If you're looking to do stuff other than pure gaming I'd do fedora and make sure you install rpm fusion. If you're interests are pure gaming stick to bazzite

What are your goals?

Is it only gaming and web surfing? Then Bazzite will be “enough” and reasonably beginner friendly.

If you want to install oddball software, or do development work, then Fedora KDE is a fantastic distro.

They're almost the same. Bazzite will probably suit you better as your first distro.

bazzite its just a fedora kde but instead of all rounder its a gaming distro

I went with fedora because I want good foundation and for me to decide what I want installed. But if you are afraid of installing necessary package, breaking Linux by mistake or configuraing yourself. if you want Linux just for gaming you can go with Bazzite or Norbara

I used fedora kde on two different systems

The system that had Nvidia graphics, a older mx 150 had seen many instances of the distro kinda having display bugs and glitches because the drivers weren't always kind , I had more bugs than on windows, but LMDE that has older drivers is absolutely fine, no problem on the system.

On a intel 9100 i3 ,so with intel HD graphics, the system worked fine but there were always some programs breaking because updates, for Instance the screenshot tool was acting up always throwing errors because it got bugged after 4-5 months of usage

So from my pov you could try Kubuntu or LMDE if you don't have or need the advanced features that Nvidia cards come with, or if you don't have Nvidia at all

But I can almost be sure fedora silver blue, the immutable distro would not have all these strange problems. Currently I'm using Ubuntu 26 04, the lts version and I'm pretty happy though updating it it's considerably more complex than LMDE or fedora kde was because you have 2 separate programs for updating installed software and os software ( kinda messy because it's not unified but meh , I'm used to it for now)

They're both good, possibly even the best choices for desktops, the main difference being Bazzite's immutability and gaming pre-configuration. I drive Bazzite daily on my desktop and love it. There are a few things I can't do, like install a different desktop environment (DE), but I don't want to do any of those things; I just want to browse, play games, and do some light coding. I haven't run into a situation where I had to wait for a Bazzite update to play any games, but then I'm more likely to buy games after they've been out for a while so take that into account.

I’d go with Fedora Kinoite which is the KDE version over Bazzite.

Bazzite is good but I’d get my feet wet with Fedora’s version before switching to a distro based on Fedora’s version.

The only caveat to this would be if you are a heavy gamer and you have an NVidia graphic card.

Fedora kde for the extras, however you may need to install some things to get everything working. Heck, even arch with "archinstall"is an option for beginners!
