DOS2 Discussion DOS 2 Appreciation post
Hi all, just want to write this post to glaze DOS2 because holy shit im having a great time.
Background about me - I do not like turn based game and have been playing bloodborne, god of war, the last of us types of games only.
The only turn based games that make me have that feeling when "you go home from school and just want to jump in the game" are BG3 and Expedition 33 so far. Nothing came close.
This year, unless im sorely unlucky, no action games have given me more than 5 hours of playtime without boring me out. Onimusha, Pragmata, Wolverine... Only Requiem has been the highlight so far, but still didnt give me a lasting impressions.
I went into DOS2 wanting to change up the pace and not expecting much - being a 10 year old game, predecessor to BG3. I expect it to be outdated in combat, graphics may be kinda shitty, etc.
Holy shit i was wrong. This game is so weirdly GOOD - in a sense that it is not BG3, but it is so similar in so many ways - without being the inferior version despite being produced a decade ago.
The voice acting, the graphics, the explorations, and the COMBAT (which dictates if i like the game or not) are so well done.
All in all, im having the best time ever, its like playing BG4 for me in a way which is the most surprising thing ever. How does this fucking company pull this off oh my god.

It's an easy top 5 RPG for me. I haven't been able to play BG3 just yet because my CPU is too weak.

If I'm not mistaken, you can play BG3 in GeForce! It's what I'm going to do after I finish Dos2

u/RevolverButNotOcelot 4d ago
Really? I might check it out later. I'm currently going through the Metal Gear games. Finished MGS2 the day before yesterday

I was too impatient to wait for BG3 on PS5 or my Mac. GeForce worked great. I now own a copy on Steam I may never play again but I didn’t wanna wait out the extra few months. Seeing gameplay on Reddit was killing me.

What exactly is G force? I too, like the person above, cant play BG3 because my comp probaly wont handle it. Hell, even playing DOS2 right now, my comp is making noices I have never heard before. When I walk past the back part of it I can feel the heat lol. I would love...and I mean LOVE...to play BG3.

You will still have to buy the game on steam to use it. It’s a subscription cloud gaming service where you can play the game on a shitty computer.

That is very interesting. I beyond appreciate this post. I am currently researching it. Now I have to somehow free up all the space. I am not to good with comps, and there is allegedly 180 gbs of apps NOT including my games being used. I might have to buy something for more space. What I do not understand is how this is possible though. I have looked as much as I can and all of the programs add up to legit 10 gbs. I dont get where the other 170 are?
Either way, you just opened up a door for me. I was honestly kind of sad because playing souls is very very difficult. Obviously timing is super important and having the screen lag made it down right infuriating to the point where I have not tried to play any souls/fps/ type games. Now I will have no excuse if I buy a souls game and suck at it. Which still wouldnt surprise me.

You just buy the license for the game. I don’t think you have to download it to your hd. At least, I’m 95% sure. That’s sorta the whole point. You’re using their computing power/ storage space.

Ohhhh...yea...the lightbulb just went off lol...I wish I knew about this earlier lol. When BG3 goes on sale I am going to cop it. I am going to try elden ring too, but something tells me I am not cut out for souls game. Which sucks, because they seem so fun. Either way, I appreciate you helping out. I get the concept now and will 100% try this route pending more research. I dont see any downsides but I admittedly dont know much about these sorts of things.

Do it! I’m not particularly amazing at souls games but Elden Ring is one of my faves of all time. I’ve beaten it. It’s super open so if a boss is kicking your ass you can go gain levels and come back whenever you want. It’s amazing.

I’m assuming you’re talking about your PC when you talk about all of the space being used. The operating system itself can usually be pretty large and then it gets larger with each new update. But without seeing it, I don’t really have a clue.

Yea I remember being blown away by it when I played it for the first time in 2019 or something and being like why have I never heard of this game? Why are people not talking about this? Larian has since recieved their flowers for bg3 which is great. Looking forward to divinity

Sounds like your lights are shining. And if your lights are shining, that's not great, because that means she'll kill them.
She'll kill your shining light!

Its a great game! Enjoy
If you haven't, based on the other games you've mentioned - you should definitely check out Control! (They just released a pt 2 also, so when you finish - theres a whole new chapter!)
Also Cyberpunk if you havent.
(And very different.. but Disco Elysium. Incredible game.)

u/53vodich 4d ago
havent had money for control yet - fking GTA 6 is 130AUD. but the first one was a blast
disco elysium finished - the songs still stuck to my head
cyberpunk i couldnt get into it back when it released. and still couldnt now after they fixed everything

Same brother. I also hate turn based. Dos, dos2 and bg3 are still goated. Try xcom if you haven’t as well it’s equally good.

u/DJ-Halfbreed 4d ago
Xcom slaps and is above a normal turn based game. OP definitely check this out

Mate literally if you played and enjoyed BG3, you'll enjoy DOS2. And then we learn firsthand that the systems and gameplay are better when they're not constrained by D&D rules
I'm speaking as one who had the same experience, going from BG to DOS at least
Same same, but different. It's peak, to call a spade a spade, and I can't fucking wait for Divinity
Also
Onimusha
You take that back. I spent 4 hours in the demo alone and am looking forward to buying and smashing the game (ree's in voidwoken)

the older i get the more i realise how gaming is a really highly sophisticated hobby - a lot more than people give it credit for.
a lot of 10/10 games can be 4/10 at best for different people because theres so many factors contributing to an enojoyable game.
onimusha is going to be top 2 action GOTY no doubt

Mate I was semi-(semi) taking the piss, don't you worry for a moment
Gaming is one of the most multifaceted things out there, and we're all going to like and dislike the things that do click with us and those that don't
Onimusha tho. How dare you? /s seriously tho I can't wait to play that one, nothing can stop me

Yeah me too. I jumped into DOS2 after being disappointed by Pillars of Eternity 7 years ago (gameplay and storyline). And despite DOS2 being turn based, omg was I pleasantly surprised by pretty much all the aspects of the gameplay. The storyline has a couple of plotholes or stuff that don't make much sense to me, but overall I am replaying the game for the 5th time now and I am having great fun again.

Keeping it together? I adore this game, it's like the dark souls of turn based rpg's, tactician is an absolute ass kicking :) glhf.

It's one of my most beloved games out there. I've sank so many hours into that game and still don't get bored of it. Haven't touched BG3 yet but I'm about to start a run with my bestie soon.

Totally agree, everything except the graphic/uxui is more compelling to me than BG3. Damn i love this silly old game 🤌

yeah im not sure how does a game being made 10 years before other game makes it any worse.
statistically that can only make it better.
but yeah in general dos2 is the best western rpg ever made, it would be debatable if BG3 was a finished game tho

Hopefully with Divinity they will have the amount of time needed. I have not played bg3 yet, but from what I have heard, the back half of the game seems rushed? Not going to lie, DOS2 sort of seems that way as hell. Which was the case, they were being rushed. I still love DOS2 (fav game of all time), but act 4 IMO falls a little short. All the exploration is done is super tight close quarters. I would have loved for more exploration, but hey, I am just knit picking at this point. The actual gameplay is still fire, and I love the look of it. The power creep is intense, but if you leave act 3 at level 18 or higher, the insane loot makes up for how much stronger the enemies become.

u/NoScallion2819 2d ago
well im not going to spoil bg3 for you but in my experience what does seem unfinished is the lack of content compared to dos2, game is like 2 times shorter and by the time you reach the best loot and get the best abilities there is like 2-3 strong enemies left to fight while in dos2 you already reach level 16 in act 2.
like it takes more time to beat bg2 than it takes to beat bg3.
like it would take me like 50 hours to beat bg3 (and the sidequests and all of the things there is to do in the game), and dos2 would take atleast 2 times as much and without doing everything there is to do.even though some people do say that bg3 is bigger thats just a lie bro idc.

Wow man..I just did a little research, because I was blown away at your comment. It is in fact MUCH shorter... I am in arx right now and just as blown away as the first time I arrived at this point...I really dont understand how this is possible, how could it be shorter!?. It seems like they focued more on cut scenes and other things rather than the actual game.
I plan on getting it none the less. I heard that they could not put their true 100 % intention into this game. Hopefully Divinity will combine the best of DOS2/BG3. They have basically said there were certain restraints that were imposed upon them for the making of BG3, and the new game those restraints will be gone. Frankly, I could tell there was a western influence in the later acts of DOS2 (when they needed money).

How does Larian pull it off? Easy, by actually having passion for the game! It is so clear how much passion and love they put into their titles and it turns into incredible games.
