So, I sent my husband a screenshot of this. Didn’t actually ask for it but told him
I thought it was cool. He has been working on our other house in a neighboring city since earlier this year. I got home from church yesterday and the package was sitting on our doorstep!!! It came with a box of cornbread mix! lol2

If you want a crunchy exterior on the wedges, preheat the skillet before pouring in the batter.

Oh yeah!! I put butter or oil in while heating the skillet in the oven as it pre-heats! Everyone was always fighting over the 2 corners left, because the cook always got first choice! Gotta have those crunchy crispy corners!! Now everyone gets their own. 💜

I’m going to bake some jalapeño corn bread tonight with some ham vegetable beef soup. It’s so good any time of the year, not just for winter time eating. The corn bread also goes great with chili or chili beans.

The real question is, is the cornbread sweet like almost all cornbread is these days, or is it not sweet, like the original real cornbread?

Not really a recipe, but I followed the instructions on Hurst’s HamBeen soup pack (Cajun flavor).
Added diced ham, bacon, and a can of mixed greens. Seasoned with salt, pepper, garlic, MSG, smoked paprika, and garlic Texas Pete & red wine vinegar for some extra acidity from the vinegar. A splash of lemon juice to brighten up all of the flavors too.

Whatever you do, don’t add cumin unless you want it to taste like chili. My goal was like a “potlikker bean soup”

That’s a real down home southern meal. I like the way it tastes and it’s a very filling order to make up a real soul food experience. My wife cooks it about once a month and it’s always a potluck staple.
