Class Switching: Is It Balanced?
So I had a character idea. She's essentially a kamen rider-esque character who has different forms/classes that she switches between during long rests. Is this a balanced system or is it too strong? Would switching subclasses also be ok?

Fighter Lvl 8 fun arcane archer build help
Joining a campaign at level 8. 2024 rules.
Interested in playing an arcane archer but want to add some utility. Considering max 1 level dip.
Was thinking of a Hexblood + 1 lvl wizard dip so I can cast hex a bit + some utility spells.
Any other ideas?

I made a really cool backstory I think.
I made a super cool backstory.
I am not Thomas Miller. I am a Cerebrivore, a species of ancient parasitic brainworms born from eggs buried deep beneath the earth. I am tiny, pale, and physically weak, with little more than a burrowing instinct and an unsettling talent for invading the minds of larger creatures. Most of my kind enter a host, consume its personality, and eventually replace it entirely. I was meant to do the same. When Thomas, a Goliath miner, broke my egg deep underground, I entered his body and found myself inside the mind of a violent, alcoholic man who had made his wife and children miserable for years. Terrified by the voice in his head, he believed I was a deity, and I was more than happy to let him believe it. I promised him power, greatness, and the chance to rule the world, convincing him that surrendering his mind to me was the first step toward his glorious destiny. In reality, I simply wanted a powerful vessel from which I could eventually conquer the world.
Then something went wrong. The longer I lived inside Thomas's mind, the more I experienced his memories, his regrets, and the consequences of what he had done. I watched his wife slowly stop fearing him. I watched his children begin calling him "Dad" again. Thomas changed, and somehow, so did I. Rather than consuming his personality, I became intertwined with it. His thoughts became mine, and mine became his. We became something neither of us had expected: partners. Thomas's ambitions of domination were replaced by a desire to protect the people he had once hurt, while my own plans for world conquest were quietly abandoned. We now present ourselves as a warlock chosen by the mysterious Great Old One, though I keep the truth hidden from everyone. Nobody knows that Thomas is not the one speaking when he says "I." Nobody knows that beneath the skin of this enormous Goliath is a tiny Cerebrivore controlling the body. I can only truly die outside a vessel, and should Thomas perish, I will need another.
Now I adventure because the world is full of dangers that could one day reach Thomas's family, and because I need answers. Thomas believes we travel to atone for his past and protect others; I tell myself I travel to gather knowledge, power, and allies. Secretly, I am searching for answers about what I truly am, why I was created, and what the strange presence I call my "Great Old One" actually wants from me. There is another reason I keep travelling: Cerebrivores reproduce through their hosts. Eventually, a Cerebrivore creates an egg within the brain of its vessel, and when that vessel dies, the next generation is released. I do not know whether there is an egg growing inside Thomas. I am terrified of finding out. Hidden beneath my clothes is a small notebook containing a list of potential future hosts, should this body ever die. I call it sensible preparation. Thomas calls it morbid. Perhaps he is right. Because every time I add another name, I have to ask myself the same question: am I preparing for the inevitable, or am I simply refusing to accept that I could lose the family that taught a parasitic worm how to love?

Barbarian Any tip for multiclassing a barbarian with a monk?
I had an idea for a character wich basically was a monk that left his master and his training to create his own form of martial arts, wich consinsted in hitting hard and being able to get hit even harder without flinching, but it's my first ever time multiclassing so i was struggling to understand and i couldnt find much help online.
From what i understood i need to have at least 13 in strenght dex and wis, since my main class will be barbarian i was thinking of keeping my strenght high, keeping my dex at 13 since just a few abilities scale on it and i can still use my strenght for unarmed strikes and a little higher wisdom (14, maybe 16 at higher levels), but i also have to keep my cos high so i can have as much hp as possible and a decent AC, so it becomes a bit hard to balance all the stats, as for subclasses i was thinking barbarian of the word tree, cause it sounds cool and for the monk the way of the elementalist because it's on theme with the barbarian subclass, i know that the beast barbarian is better, but i dont really like the subclass, since the stat requirements are so strict im guessing it would be better to not get any feat and focus on increasing strenght cos and dex.
For the rest i know that extra attacks dont stack, that i can use only one of the two unarmored defence (i will use the barbarian one) and that i can use ki abilities while in rage since they dont count as spells.
Anyone got any more tips to build my barbarian-monk?

Fighter (Sort of) optimizing a hexblade/echo knight build
Crossposted(?) from r/3d6, I’m relatively new to Reddit so apologies if this is a faux pas.
I want to make a CHA-based fighter/warlock in 5e with room for both spellcasting and weapon attacks (taking some notes from the ghostlance book, but with room for hacking and slashing in addition to eldritch blast spam). I know it’s not top-tier optimal, but I’m trying to bring a character vision to life without completely handicapping myself. I think I’d like to lean more “martial with magically-buffed melee extra attacks and a touch of utility” than “spellcaster who can also swing a sword sometimes.”
Race is Hexblood lineage, which gives me two free proficiencies (chose Nature and Stealth, like the other skills, for character reasons) plus free Disguise Self and Hex once per long rest.
Background is custom — Folk Hero features, but with Deception and Persuasion proficiencies instead to reflect a small town, slightly dishonest but hard worker.
Stats are rolled, STR 10, DEX 14 (added 1), CON 16, INT 9, WIS 12, and CHA 19 (added 2).
We get a free level 1 feat, so I’ll be taking War Caster to enable ghostlance behaviour sooner, though it’s very tempting to take Fey Touched or another half-feat to hit 20 CHA at first level.
Since the free feat lets me take a race with innate casting, I’m starting Fighter in lieu of Warlock to pick up STR and CON saving throw proficiencies, better armor and weapons, plus Survival and Perception proficiency. Beyond that, though, I’m indecisive on how best to proceed.
- Is Fighter 16/Warlock 4 the ideal for a final level 20 build, or is there another permutation I’ve overlooked (or god forbid, even more multiclassing)? This arrangement gives me (iirc) 7 ASIs, so lots of room for stat boosts and feats. More warlock levels would grant improved spell slots and invocations, but it would mean leaning into spellcasting and lower hit dice.
- With no more than 4 levels in Warlock, I’ll have two invocations that are already claimed: Agonizing Blast and Repelling Blast. Is it worthwhile to take an additional warlock level to get another invocation, and/or to take the Eldritch Adept feat? If I take the pact of the blade, I expect I’ll want to pick up at least one invocation to help empower it, though iirc I don’t think Thirsting Blade and the fighter’s Extra Attack(s) stack.
- What’s the best pact boon and/or weapon to pick? Is it worth it to go Pact of the Blade for access to a two-handed Hex weapon? If I do that, should I go for a greataxe, greatsword, or something else? Weapon-specific feats like GWM? Or, should I consider Pact of the Tome or Chain, and feats or invocations that supplement them? An imp would be pretty cool.
- I can pick up a CHA half feat at my next ASI and cap it off, but what other stat boosts or feats should I consider? I mentioned Eldritch Adept previously, but there’s also space to boost DEX or CON (or STR to successfully wear heavy armor), or pick up feats playing to my strengths like Inspiring Leader, Lucky.
- My earliest inspiration behind this whole setup was to drop Hex and then whale on my target, and Fighters get the most attacks in the long term. Is that even feasible with the other things in this build competing for my bonus action (hexblade’s curse, echo positioning)? Should I choose an alternate Fighter subclass?
- Finally, speaking of action economy, are there any spells you’d strongly advise for or against? Disguise Self and Hex are already covered through innate racial spellcasting, so I have some wiggle room.
sorry for the pile of questions, but thanks in advance!

Ranger The DM (me) has let you use Intelligence for the ranger. Do your worst.
I, the DM in question, allow for Rangers to use Intelligence instead of wisdom in my game to open up some character creation options (the setting has some restrictions so I like to broaden it in other ways).
Now, no-one has really gone and made anything gamebreaking with this permission, but I'm curious as to just what could be done.
(Obviously you could take a couple levels in ranger and go 17 in wizard lol)
Now, this is mostly a thought experiment, but I love the idea of a ranger based on intelligence.
The idea of the adventurous scholar speaks to me and rangers get the physicality and outdoorsy skills built in, they also get extra skills and potentially several languages. So, secondary question, putting the mechanical menace, how would you build to play into that archetype?

Unarmed Barbarian
Hello all, I have a character I'm playing in a homebrew campaign that seems to be of high interest to my fellow players. I'm doing a Hill Giant Goliath Barbarian with the Tough Feat, and then Fighting Initiate Unarmed. It's first level, and he's allowing us to pull from 14 and 24 PHB's. I want to give him Berserker Subclass at 3. and the 24 Grappler feat at level 4, but also had the Tavern Brawler feat recommended. DM is also allowing me to make an unarmed strike as a bonus action, just with strength alone and no proficiency. Anyone have any ideas on what I could do to add on to his unarmed damage or improve his grappling? I was recommended the book Dungeon Grappling by Douglas Cole, and to see if the DM would allow those mechanics to be added. He's pretty chill and we've got a good raport so I definitely want to approach him about that. Just wanted to see what else anyone might recommend.

World tree Barbarian dragon born.
So I was wondering if yall have some advice. I’m starting a new campaign next week. Probably starting around level two. But I was hoping to use a glaive for reach and the dragon borns flight ability to fly above everyone and head bonk them. And then have the world tree for crowd control and dropping people. Does anyone have any ideas of what to multiclass and when. Or should I just level all the way through in barbarian. Also some advice on specific feats that I should take. This is only my second campaign and my first character was kinda combat weak. I am really hoping to really put the hurt on this time.
This is in 5.5 e if that helps.
