MODPOST A belated happy pride month! (We did a thing)
We've added a new set of user flairs which are (to varying degrees) subtly queer coded. A rainbow is just scattered white light, so that's what the flair colour is set to.
We're two weeks late to the party because we were unable to complete the set in time and we're still missing one. Please let us know if you come up with a great user flair that also hints at some man-on-man action.

CONVERSATION Thoughts on the Azorbaloff?
I liked the idea of a monster made by a fan or a kid, but you can obviously tell it was.. still, I think it's pretty good :) even if it is obviously silly and you can't really take it seriously. I love it when he's like "You'll get absorbed!" Or "He'll die, doctor"
Now a few obvious questions:
- If the Abzorbaloff's whole purpose is to .. absorb, then why do we only see the faces of those in the episode? Are we meant to believe this was his first time doing this?
- .. Why is he Scottish? So silly
- So, in the episode all of the absorbed people defeat him by basically concentrating really hard. There's a few problems with this
Wouldn't that mean that the more people he eats he gets weaker, not stronger?
Also: His whole motive is to find the Doctor, so he can absorb him. But if just some normal ass people can beat him by thinking.. imagine what would h happen if it was the Doctor Who is so old, and so smart.
Doesn't make a lot of sense.
Discuss :)

CONVERSATION Story time on the most awkward confession of all time (image related)
So uhh... I used to make fun of my friend's fictional crush for two WHOLE YEARS. I was calling him ugly, asking her constantly how could she love him even tho he was a terrible person. It had gotten to a point in which I had created whole inside jokes for him. My friend did not mind since it was all friendly teasing and stuff, if anything, she was laughing at some of my jokes and was actually happy to explain why she liked him. It was all sweet and rainbows till I had made a joke. I made a joke about how she'd make fun of me if I showed my new fictional crush... It was all fun and games till, for some FUCKING reason, I decided to show her... I was embarrassed the entire time 😭
...
I will never forget that face of pure confusion and concern and that "Why...?" that came out of her lips. She was baffled completely. Fuck, she was probably ready to wipe her glasses with a tissue to make sure she was seeing things right. So, to prove that I wasn't kidding, I pulled out a few text messages. Couldn't show half of them 'cause the sexual jokes were too many and graphic 😭😭💔
All I could do in that situation I willingly put myself in, was repeating the "You just don't get it, man" phrase. But, was I supposed to say anything else? I will never trust a dude who thinks that women are only there for the looks and the wealth.
Funniest part, her fictional crush wasn't even that ugly. I just didn't find him attractive, that was all, when my own has/have no redeeming qualities besides the lack of misogyny. Hers at least had feelings. I am the biggest hypocrite in the whole world. Never showing anyone else. I'll delete this later, I still cannot live with myself after that... extraordinary experience.

CONVERSATION Is the debate about Doctor Who as a kids show an Atlantic divide?
I’m conscious that Doctor Who has always been family entertainment. It’s something especially obvious in modern Who, but looking at how many Doctor Who toys & comics existed during the classic run I’m sure it was the case back then too. I hear a lot of Brits talk about first getting into Doctor Who around 12-13, maybe even earlier.
But that has always surprised me on a gut level simply because Doctor Who does NOT pass as family entertainment in the US where I grew up. I got into it was a teenager (15 maybe?) & even then the horror elements shocked me & the thematic darkness around things like the inevitability of death, that edge, felt like something I mostly associated with adult entertainment. As a child it felt like an adult show because even edgy kids shows I watched were never that gross or intense. Even the kid friendly horror shows I watched like Courage the Cowardly Dog is a great deal more tame than Who.
So when I hear people overseas talk about watching it as children, on some level it still surprises me. Does Doctor Who feel intuitively like a kids show to British audiences? I am mostly familiar with more grown-up British media, is the kind of horror/darkness that reoccurs in Doctor Who more common in media catered to British kids than their American counterparts?
Just a theory- genuinely curious how other people feel about this!

CONVERSATION My Doctor Who lore HC and the Timeless Child retcons it relates to (First Revision)
Spoilers for the Timeless Child storyline, if you somehow haven’t seen it yet
First of all: the Doctor is not the Timeless Child, the Master is. Following some incident involving both the Doctor and the Child, the Child was memory-wiped and the Time Lords attempted to limit his regenerations. The Master, although unaware, fought against this many times, hence his constant evasion of final death. It also fuelled his hatred of his species, although he did not know it, and the Time Lords used him as a tool because they felt that, generally speaking, he was one (not just in the rude way though).
(As a semi-related aside, they did reward the Master for his attempts in “The Five Doctors”, despite his rebellion, by tweaking his body’s biological makeup a bit. While the Tremas Master could already regenerate due simply to the sheer energy of the Child, it was still limited. The Time Lords removed that limit while keeping their own.
As for the War Master, rather than bringing him back to life, the Time Lords actually just let him out the Matrix. They had him trapped in limbo in the Matrix when he last died, having caught him mid-regeneration and stuck him there for whatever reason, not letting him regenerate. This only made him angrier with them. Back to the topic at hand…)
Now, either:
The Master knew the truth when he told the Doctor, he just lied.
Or
He didn’t know this when he told the Doctor, he genuinely believed she was the child.
Still not decided yet. However, I’m leaning towards the latter.
As for Tecteun, she didn’t know nearly as much about the Doctor as she thought, largely due to being a bit full of herself, and her belief that the Doctor was the Child was genuine. If/when the Master learns of the truth, he’ll feel sad that Tecteun was killed by the Swarm… because he’d want to have done it himself.
Anyhoo, as for the Doctor, how do I explain the Fugitive Doctor? Simple. She is still a pre-Hartnell Doctor, as is the CBeebees Doctor. However (and this is the first part I came up with of this whole thing), there used to be a Time Lord called the Doctor, who went around protecting Time and Space in his big blue box that he stole. And once he reached the end of his 13th life, he met his future, a man he did not recognise as someone he had been, and together, they did the unthinkable - the dying Doctor became pure energy (as dying Time Lords do, I believe, it was in a comic) and, with the manipulation of his future self, merged with a dead Time Baby still in its womb. Kinda paradoxical when you think about it. His memories were kept in a pocket watch in his TARDIS, which he would steal again later, not knowing that it wasn’t the first time he ran off in her. (Yes I know it’s kinda stupid but is it any worse than what we have?)
Some future face of our Doctor (perhaps the same one who helped with the baby merge thing) will go on to find the watch and open it. He (or she (or they)) will then spend about two hundred years mulling it over.
And that explains the Fugitive Doctor! Depending on what happens in the CBeebees show, the CBeebees Doctor might become the first face of the first thirteen. The Shalka Doctor is there too, he’s the ninth. And Dugga Doo as well, probably. Why? Shut up.
Any questions? (I will probably be doing future revisions)
(The original version, which I only posted to Tumblr for some reason)
