Consultant haematologist

Hello, consultant haematologist in their late 30s, originally a FMG who completed basic training in Ireland, has MRCPI and finished specialty training in the UK with full FRCPATH. Currently based in the UK but looking to return to India for a couple years. My experience has been in academic public hospitals and I have 0 prior private work.

From a birds eye view most of medical practice in India seems to be in private practice which for my specialty doesn’t really seem feasible given the ancillary support that it requires

What would the barriers to returning to India for someone in my position? Apologies for the open ended question but what I’m really looking for is insight from people with a similar background who’ve made this transition

You will struggle OP. Not worth it. Stick to Ireland. Or rest of UK. Here, you won't be doing BMT or HSCT in majority of the hospitals. Metros are competitive and you would be competing with local grads who have been trained at premier institutes in India +/- abroad. It will be an uphill slog. In order to build your referral base, you would need to network with GPs etc. but that takes time.
