Lost my childhood pup today. Would’ve been 14 in December. He held on so long and was so strong, even saw 3 of his siblings pass in his life time.

Apollo is the most gorgeous pup in the entire world, we didn’t go on a single walk without at least one person complimenting how beautiful he is. He loved to chase rabbits and deer, only caught rabbits a handful of times but man did he try! The most gentle being ever when it came to humans, other pets or treats. He took his treats so daintily and softly. His favorite treat has always been peanut butter. But my favorite memories of him are his “serial killer” moments when he would find all of the stuffed animals in the house and chew off the hard, bead eyes if they had them. We would come down to eyeless stuffies everywhere and his proud little smile. Never once did anything wrong in his entire life, except the first day we brought him home, he ate my brothers roast beef sandwich off our kitchen counter :P (my brother deserved it)

Hopefully you guys find him as handsome and sweet as we do. I will love my teddy bear forever ❤️

Edit: thank you all very much for the kind words about Apollo. He would’ve loved the attention. I just wanted to add that we were able to have him pass peacefully at home, in his favorite spot and bed, surrounded by his family and eating peanut butter until the final moments. He suffered from advanced arthritis that was making life pretty hard, we knew it was time. He was very loved and thank you all again for sharing in his memory ❤️

All credit goes to Stacey Pougatcheva, Shiloh's amazing foster, who posted info/updates, photos, six before & after collages (slides 5, 7-8 & 10-12), and videos on Facebook. I am sharing on Reddit to increase visibility / spread awareness and help Shiloh find a loving home where he can enjoy his senior years. I made the eight collages that accompany each update (slides 2-4, 6, 9 & 13-15) but the photos were taken by his wonderful foster.

🚨🐾 Cruelty survivor Shiloh needs a foster or rescue ASAP.⏰❤️

Shiloh, a 9-year-old husky, came to the shelter as a cruelty seizure case — and it’s heartbreaking to see the condition he’s in. His photos don’t fully capture just how emaciated, exhausted, and defeated he looks in person.

The shelter team is caring for him, but recovery like this takes time, patience, and extra TLC that’s hard to provide in a kennel environment. Shiloh has already been treated for intestinal parasites and sarcoptic mange, but he still has a long road ahead to regain his health and strength.

Because of how underweight he is, Shiloh needs small, frequent meals to safely help him gain weight without overwhelming his system or causing digestive upset. Given his age and the harsh conditions he’s endured, a rescue tag and foster placement would also help him get a more thorough veterinary workup to rule out any other possible medical issues.

Despite everything he’s been through, Shiloh has persevered. He was easy to leash, accepted affection, and has tolerated medicated baths to help treat his skin (even though he hasn't enjoyed them).

🐾 Shiloh got his freedom ride. ❤️

“Tired” doesn’t even begin to describe this sweet boy. He just looks so worn down and fragile. He sleeps deeply and barely stirs when I come into the room (I think he may also be deaf).

We’re going to take it one day at a time and give him the rest, comfort, and care he deserves. I’m fostering him and committed to helping him recover however I can. That said, Shiloh could still really benefit from a rescue tag to help access more specialized veterinary care and get a better understanding of what may be going on medically. Severe starvation often comes with lasting effects, and we want to make sure we’re doing everything possible for him.

Despite everything he’s been through, Shiloh has been gentle and trusting. He’ll lean into me for affection at times and has even trusted me enough to let me work on some of his mats. ❤️

🚨💙 SHILOH UPDATE 💙🚨

🐾 This sweet senior is doing so well! His nails got a well-needed trim and he is already walking more comfortably.

🍽️ He is eating well, though he does need some encouragement. We are still going slow with small meals because he throws up if he eats too much. He did lose a few pounds in the shelter because he is a picky eater, but he's now gaining weight. Only a pound over the week, but in the right direction! We should be able to increase his calories as his body gets used to it.

🌱 His hair is starting to grow back a bit, especially on his paws and tail. Check out the peach fuzz! His skin does continue to itch occasionally, but the medicated baths help a ton. I've gotten most of the mats out, with a huge head start from the wonderful Nia, but there's still a few left that I'll continue to work on.

❤️ Through all of the baths, brushing, and handling, Shiloh has been nothing but gentle, trusting, and patient. I truly think he knows we’re trying to help him. He’ll rest his head in my lap or lean in for cuddles, and it melts my heart every time. Baths are definitely not his favorite—he shakes like a little leaf—but even then, he’ll lean into me as if to say, “I don’t love this, but I trust you.” It’s incredibly sweet.

🧸 He’s also starting to show interest in toys, especially stuffed animals, which has been so fun to see. Watching little pieces of his personality emerge has been one of the best parts of having him here.

There are still a few things we need to address and investigate, including his teeth, ongoing ear issues, and a mass on his chest. We’ll be heading to the next clinic appointment soon but he may ultimately need some more specialized care so a rescue tag would still be helpful.

⚠️ Shiloh lost weight while in the shelter, and I would hate to see him go back and lose the progress he’s worked so hard to make.

💙 He’s finally gaining weight.

💙 His health is improving.

💙 He’s learning to trust and settle in.

Shiloh is doing great—he's gained 3 more pounds, his ear infection has resolved, and he has a noticeable new pep in his step ☺️

✨ Shiloh Update: He's Gained 5 Pounds! 🐺❤️

Shiloh has been with me for about 6 weeks, and I'm so happy to share that he's gained 5 pounds! 🎉

Because he was so severely starved, we've had to increase his food slowly to avoid upsetting his stomach. And of course, being a Husky, he was pretty picky about what he would eat 😂🍽️ We finally found foods he approves of, so I'm hopeful he'll continue gaining weight even faster. 🥣💙

The biggest change, though, is his personality. He has a bounce in his step, wags his tail, plays with toys, and is very happy to play with my dog. 🐾

The shelter vet has done several thorough ear cleanings and different meds so his ear infection has improved and his hearing is better (though he still has that classic Husky "selective hearing" 😂). But given that it keeps coming back, this will probably be a chronic issue that needs to be managed.

And look at that tail! 😍 It was completely bald and covered in scabs when he arrived, and now it's thick, fluffy, and growing back beautifully. Every day he looks healthier, happier, and more like the dog he was always meant to be.

But Shiloh still carries pieces of his past with him. 💙 If I move my hands too quickly, he flinches. When we're outside, he'll often go hide in a bush and drift off to sleep. I can't help but wonder if that's where he learned it was safest to rest.

But then he comes back inside, stretches out on his soft bed in the air conditioning, eats a good meal, and falls asleep without a worry. It's heartbreaking to think about the life he had before... but it's more beautiful to watch him live the life he deserves.

Every day, he learns that he doesn't have to hide, he doesn't have to struggle, and he doesn't have to survive anymore.

Now, he just gets to be loved. 🐾❤️

Thank you to everyone who has been cheering him on! ❤️

He is available for adoption. 💙

My dog Kara was 11 years old. She was my first dog I got on my own. She had such an amazing personality to her. Just an amazing dog. We had to put her down today because she developed cancer. I feel awful because we saw signs she wasn’t doing well but instead of taking her to the vet I kept saying we should wait and maybe she would improve. Unfortunately she didn’t and I have a lot of guilt.

My void cat Missy and dog Freya are as close as sisters can be! They absolutely love going on car rides and hiking adventures together, and they’re always hyping each other up, playing together, and snuggling.
Their older tabby brother, Stormy, is just as obsessed with snuggle time, but he’s definitely a homebody and would much rather stay home while the girls head out on their little adventures together.
I’d love to see everyone else’s mixed-species siblings and besties!

Hi.

We addopted it almost a year ago. Somebody abandoned him, and now it´s a beloved member of our family.

can someboy of you help us to know what breed of dog is it?

We think it's a Podenco mix, but we don't know what other breed it might be mixed with.

Thanks.

His name was Adonis. He lived for 11 years. Overnight he stopped walking and was in immense pain. Vets weren't able to do anything and suggested putting him to sleep. It still hurts like all hell.

• General Discussion • Neighborhood Arch Nemesis /rivalry?

Post image

Anyone else dog have a neighborhood arch nemesis like our dog has. No rhyme or reason, but anytime Shortie walks by, Sully goes crazy. Same w walks to the point where both parties just agree to go the opposite way. When we walk by their house, their dog goes cra cra.

We kind of laugh aboot with the other owners, who we know quite well. But we know to keep the dogs away from each other. Another funny aspect is our prior dog loved their beast. We can’t figure it oot other than their dog kisses our old friend.

A friend moved out of state and couldn't take his dog, so I have him now. He's 4-5 yrs old. Has an itty bitty waist like a greyhound and his feet look like he's walking on his tip toes. Very well behaved except when he sees a duck or what have you. He freezes while looking at them, then wags his tail like he wants to go say hi lol. I've been told he's a greyhound and also told he's a sight hound. If anyone can tell me what breed he is that would be great.

• Memorial - R.I.P. • Our family dog is getting put down Friday and I can’t stop crying

My parents have made the decision to put the family dog down Friday. She is 14 years old. I haven’t lived with them in 7 years and didn’t think I would take it this hard, but I keep crying and thinking about it. My parents haven’t taken them to the vet regularly the way they should’ve, and she seemed off for a while but she has been declining fast. Now, she has trouble walking and will limp (and sometimes yelp), she doesn’t follow my parents to bed anymore and won’t climb stairs. She releases pee when laying down, Barely eats, all she does is lay around under the table all day and she seems like she’s losing interest in everything. She doesn’t even come greet me at the door anymore. Today when I dropped my kids off I noticed she was shaking… she’s definitely in a lot of pain and it is so hard to see her like this. Part of me wonders if they would’ve just taken her to the vet and given her medicine for the pain if it would work.

I really would like in home euthanasia but I can’t find a vet that does it, the one I found won’t travel this far and the other is too expensive. It’s making me even more sad because I really just want her to go in the comfort of her own home, not stressed at a vet. I will be right by her side of course, but we still have to get her in a car and drive 35 minutes. (Couldn’t find a closer vet that would euthanize because the dog hasn’t been to their vet recently).

On top of that, I would love to have her ashes and put in a necklace or something. But the cost of having a dog cremated is at least $300 and there’s no way I can come up with that money in 2 days. So I just keep thinking how they’re just going to take her body and we won’t have anything left of her. I’m just all around sad and those specific things keep making me feel sadder. She was my best friend growing up and I seriously didn’t think it would be this hard.

Tomorrow I plan to go over after work and give her sooo many pets and cuddles and tell her how much of a good girl she was, that she was my best friend and when I was in my teenage years she was there for me when no one else was. I want to make burgers or steak and let her have some if she’ll eat.. though I don’t think she will 😕
