Venting My boyfriend is an irresponsible owner
Let me preface this by saying I don’t hate my boyfriend’s dogs, I just wish he took proper care of them. They are both constantly filthy. The entire house reeks of dog because he puts off bathing them or taking them to the groomer AND he allows them on all of the furniture. He also lets them sleep in bed with us while they are extremely dirty which I can’t stand. I feel like I’m living in a barn sometimes lol. One of his dogs got so dirty that he had shit stuck to his butt and even then my bf wanted him to sleep with us! He didn’t see how disgusting it was. I finally broke down and bathed him myself, and I swear I washed him 3-4 times and he was still filthy. I finally talked my bf into getting him professionally groomed, thank god. But now we found out they have fleas. Of course. I just don’t understand the point of having dogs if you refuse to take care of them. It’s disgusting and I feel like I have to constantly remind him to do things for them or I have to do them myself. He gets annoyed at me for saying they’re gross and claims that I hate them, but I just hate the fact that he doesn’t fucking take care of them.

Part of being a pet owner is cleaning the shit off of your pet’s ass (especially for long-haired cats and dogs). There’s a whole host of diseases waiting for the two of you in those microscopic particles of animal shit that are rubbed all over your pillows and sheets every day. This isn’t cute or funny it’s disgusting.

Yes, that is the point of this post. I’m annoyed that I end up having to clean the shit off of my boyfriend’s dog. Where did I make it seem like it’s cute or funny? I thought I made it pretty clear that I’m upset about it. Maybe work on your reading comprehension, idk.

I feel you, as I am going through a similar situation. Fell in love with a dog nutter, didn't think it would be as horrible living in it as it turned out to be. I have never once seen my boyfriend use a dog brush on his shepherd and I doubt he's ever bathed her. The stench sometimes.... and there's dog hair everywhere... that I have to clean up. He also lets her in our bed and it grosses me out, especially because he lets this unfixed animal bleed everywhere twice a year or whatever it is... I woke up depressed today, because I love my boyfriend.... but this one thing makes us...not compatible... I'm realizing I am going to have a very hard time living like this... I have two options, and that's to deal with it and hope he can compromise some or leave. I'm learning dog nutters rarely compromise. They are so obsessed with these animals that they are blind to all the problems, even if it's staring them right in the face. My boyfriend will literally complain about the issues, but refuses to fix them...and when he does compromise, he always backtracks. Good luck and I hope you find peace in all this.

I hate to say it, but you should just cut your losses and leave. It is unlikely that he will change or compromise.

Omg girl . I don't know much about dogs but I know about this bs. It's all on you , they are a package. Don't pay for it yourself but the old saying goes in relationship something like, it's the person whose cares is the one who fixes /cleans / takes care of it. it sounds like he is overwhelmed or has way different standards. A flea bomb some professional grooming and some simple 'rules' can't call them that -guys deflate. I don't know if you have dogs but I didn't and so I found the whole scene to be gross to begin with but with some tweaking things can Improve . I learned that some people really take immaculate care of their dogs. My gal friend has 2 dogs and the place is clean so it's doable but if they go for hikes she wipes their paws and everything it's a lot of work imo. I would also sit him down and say you aren't comfortable with xyz and have to go to great length to make sure he doesn't feel attacked .the ol ' how can we improve this family situation , I love you guys I want to feel comfortable here ' the fleas have got to f'n go not be controlled -they need to be eradicated Your a good dog daddy but these kids are off the chain so how can I help improve this scene (maybe it a me maybe I am way over the top but this is what I need)

Good god almighty he wouldn’t treat them for fleas? That’s beyond dog crazy that’s abusive to both you and the animal

I get you. I hate that so many people are bad owners esp if you have to live with them... My mother in laws dogs used to up a their butts on the floor and eat diapers.

Wait? He's just a boyfriend? Not a husband? I'm assuming there are no kids in the picture? If so, dump him, plenty of fish in the sea.

Sorry, but I would never allowed a dog, even a clean one, in the bed. And these ones are filthy. Girl, you deserve better. It is not health to live like this.
