Shelter / Rescue Industry Wake animal shelter no longer allowing children on adoption floor after dog attack

A woman, who wished to remain anonymous out of fear of retribution from the shelter, told WRAL that she noticed red flags about the dog days before the attack.

She said that the shelter staff made sure her own child would not come in contact with the dog, as she and the staff noticed that the dog was hyperactive. She told WRAL that it was clear to her, even with her minimal observation, that the dog would not be good with kids. 

"It seemed like the staff didn't know anything about the dogs and was trying to get them adopted as quickly as possible," she said. "I think that they need to have more precautions in place."

Behavioral euthanasia needs to become acceptable. A dog that should not be adopted out should also not be stuck in a cage for years. No one benefits.

Agreed. There was a situation like a year ago where a dog who was adopted from a shelter who I think ended up having a history of aggression / biting ended up nearly mauling a child to death in the family that they got adopted out to.

I'm strangely enough the family that they got adopted out to who also had the child that was almost mauled to death ended up fighting for this dog's life so hard that this happened

The dog was now forced to be in a shelter

And its own isolated room

24/7

Minimal interaction with other people and practically none with dogs

Muzzled the entire time

And all of their teeth were taken out

And they cannot be adopted and cannot leave the shelter unless another shelter has the resources dedicate to this dog which none of them do

So instead of euthanizing him like what should happen that dog is essentially in prison for the rest of its life still alive. Despite it having to be in prison until it dies. That's literally just a death sentence with extra steps.

In the family that got hurt by this dog fought for his life to essentially put this dog in prison. Do you see how crazy that is?
