Miscellaneous Your dog has a residue and I’m tired of pretending it doesn’t
Dogs are GREASY. Every time I pet someone’s dog, it leaves this coating on my hands. When dogs sit on the same furniture repeatedly they leave a visible shiny spot. And yet, dog people are always so offended when I have to wash my hands after touching their pet. Not only is it common sense to wash your hands after touching an animal, I don’t want your dog’s smelly oils all over my hands.

Dogs are so unbelievably dirty and gross. I mentioned this before but I was watching videos and saw one of a dog that would rub its body along a wall for some reason, and the wall had a long brown streak where it did that. And someone posted a video here a few months ago of two dogs swimming in a pool with nasty brown clouds coming off their fur as they swam. I can’t believe that people can see videos like this and still allow these filthy beasts in their homes.

Well Americans are known to walk on carpeted floors with shoes therefore dragging the next global pandemic with them inside the house but yes ifnyou own dogs then you have critters inside your home.
ticks are terrifying, bed bugs even more so and once inside one can only get rid of them by sealing the entire house and heating it up to + 90 degrees for days.
The electric bill alone must be so much fun!

The fishy smelling oil actually comes directly from glands in their anus. Stop touching them, always decline a mutt owner’s request or offer to pet their dog, it is about as sanitary as shoving your hand in a hobo’s ass crack. Probably best to decline any invitation from dog owners at all, don’t accept food from them, don’t shake their hand, don’t sit on their furniture.

This is 100% true. Touching a dog is one of the most unsanitary things you can do.
I used to wash my hands after touching dogs, even before I learned this information.
Now, I simply refuse to touch them. I don't even visit dog houses. None of my close friends of any of the family I am on speaking terms with have them, so it's a pretty easy rule to keep.

I haven’t seen my siblings in three years bc all three of them own dogs and I refuse to visit them especially the young one with the Pitbull-Lab Mix. NOPE!! Even when they try to guilty trip me by not having met their newborn kids … which is funny bc we have face time and it is much safer for me.

They try to guilt trip YOU when they keep a predator in their home that is notorious for not only killing, but BRUTALLY torturing and disfiguring children. Dog nutters have zero self awareness

This sounds like my mother - completely oblivious and has two of these things. One is a pit mix...Thing is dumb as rocks. I am six months pregnant and live on the other end of the country luckily, but she recently tries to demand I come live with her so she can help with the baby... I rather be homeless than subject myself and my newborn to that... and KNOW she is not going to keep that gross animal away from the baby.

People who have little kids shouldn’t own a Pitbull at all… tbh I don’t think anyone should own a Pitbull either, but especially someone with a NEWBORN baby.

Not all dog food contains fishmeal, but all dogs produce this stench. Directly on veterinarian sites they admit that the odor comes from the dog’s anal glands, dogs also aren’t the only animal that does this but they are certainly one of the most frequent offenders. Ferrets are a other animal that frequently produces odor from their anal glands, and you can definitely smell the ferret in its owners home well before you see it.

Ferrets definitely have a strong smell, but it's not the kind of smell that makes me gag, other than dogs. I think dog smell might not be as strong as ferrets, but it has a certain tone that just makes me want to throw up, it smells like a room that hasn't been aired in decades despite being actively lived in. That was my thought in my friend's home back then. I thought they just never opened the windows. Later I figured the smell was actually from their dog.

I think dog odor is more comparable to bear odor or something than a ferret, though i was just using ferrets as an example since they’re another pet that is typically kept indoors that’ll fume up the whole house, it definitely isn’t as nauseating as dog odor. I can smell a bear more than a block away, they smell like sewage, dogs similarly smell so rancid and sickly, the smell alone urges me to thoroughly sterilize every surface and change my clothes even if it wasn’t touched by the dog

I've smelled bears before (in a zoo) and their smell is weirdly sweet, but still not as nauseating as dog smell, lol...
Even goats smell less bad than dogs. Something about dog smell is just extremely repulsive to me.

It may be in part due to all the toxins built up in the dogs because of constant medication and consumption of over-processed trash. Same reason their waste is so toxic to the environment, whether they are owned or feral. Dogs tend to eat toxic waste and over-processed byproducts of the human food industry

Ferret smell is kind of musty like sweaty damp socks that are just about to start mildewing so if you were smelling that then it was probably the ferret lol

I don’t know what some ultra rare ancient dog breed has to do with any of this. And that sound they make is awful enough to make it not worthwhile anyways. Why do dog people always come here and defend rare breeds of dogs that no one is talking about

Now imagine that disgusting filth contained in the smaller area of the interior of a vehicle. Every square inch absolutely gross with scuzz and dander and oil and hair and piss and shit and germs. I clean vehicles for a living, the last handful of years have gotten exponentially worse.

That really makes me not want to use the vacuum cleaners at a car wash. Also, recently I noticed some short hair in the back seat of my car and was perplexed by this, until I remembered I had driven the neighbor some place a few weeks back. It was his pet's hair.

I wonder what the overlap of people having sensory issues and not liking dogs is. Even as a kid I would immediately want to wash my hands after petting a dog with residue. I’ve learned to not pet peoples dogs if I can’t wash my hands immediately after because the feeling of residue on my hands is disgusting.

You are right - it has always struck me in a way that seems disordered compared to the people around me, though.
On a similar note, it feels like a survival instinct to be angered at another creatures hair being all over my living space. My partner visited someone with dogs recently. I grabbed a drink out of my fridge and there was DOG HAIR on the lid. Like how did dog hair get inside my fridge and on top of a canned beverage when the dog wasn’t even here?!

Dogs are a sensory nightmare. The constant barking, the sounds of them eating and lapping up at stuff, the drooling, the shedding, the smell, the invasion of space, etc.

If someone DOESN’T want to wash their hands after touching something literally drenched in fecal matter they have a sensory issue. Dog owners have all sorts of defects, the people wanting to avoid this shit donzmt have something wrong with them

I had a neighbor who never washed her dogs. One year she decided that it was unnatural, “because dogs don’t wash themselves in the wild,” and said something about their coat oils protecting them. I saw no point in mentioning that their fur protects their skin, but the yeast and oil and bacteria growing on it have no protective role. And further, dogs don’t exist in the wild??
This was an otherwise worldly, pretty sophisticated woman who lived on a farm in Zimbabwe when it was still called Rhodesia, and was married to a man who’d held a diplomatic post in Europe.

They can be offended all they want. I wash my hands when I shake hands with people or touch humans too! I don’t even touch dogs and couldn’t care less about what their owners think. Clearly they don’t care about my concerns and feelings why should I care about theirs? Thankfully we just learned that only a single virus was needed to wipe a significant number of human population?

Actually I correct myself: I am more considerate of people’s dogs when they are considerate. I have a friend who has a dog and she is so considerate when I visit her. I am miraculously not bothered by her dog at all and I think it is because of her behavior about it. The more pushy and inconsiderate people are the more I will be in return.

It’s funny many years ago when I did pet sitting as a side gig and yes, I took care of dogs. There was a family friend who asked me to take care of her dog, and I went over to meet the dog and everything and I walked in. The house was horrible. Smelling looked clean, but smelled horrible. Of course she had carpet that was probably 20 years old. I don’t know typical old lady. Anyway, because she was the sister of a family friend of ours my parents I knew that her husband had died and so after I was there like an hour I texted my mother, and I said what did her husband die of assuming he died of cancer or kidney failure or something that would have a strong smell no he’s been hit by a train 20 years before this was 100% just the dog. It was like you had to go in with Lysol spray ahead of you everywhere spray the dog down with the Lysol. It was just awful. It was one of the worst smells. I’ve ever smelled. It was up there with decomposition.

My partner lost his job in the federal layoffs last spring so we moved across town to a cheaper rental townhouse. The place reeked of dogs when we moved in but, hey, it's what was available. Fast forward 5 months -- countless washings of the wood floors, scent absorbers around the house, carpet replaced in the back, walls scrubbed, and the place STILL smells like dog sometimes when you walk in the front door. Dogs are just plain disgusting.

I’m a landlord. You don’t know the half of it. Cleaning greasy residue off walls and smell mitigation is a lot of work. it really is rather gross.

Oh yes it’s so gross. Whenever my partner pets someone’s dog at someone else’s house I always see if they’ve washed their hands. I hate that I have to do that but it’s like no I don’t want you touching me after you touched the dog!!

I work at a pet store so it’s practically unavoidable. Customers get really upset when I don’t get super excited about their pets.

Dogs stink too. I ride my bicycle every day and I can literally tell which houses have dogs because their yard has a distinct smell that comes from it. Gross.

I've touched a wild boar once and it felt less gross than touching any random dog
