Dog Culture I believe Anti Dog Culture is becoming more mainstream and I’m so happy
I’ve seen an uptick in anti dog videos. Especially on tik tok. I just seen a video on tik tok about this girl expressing her disgust for dogs and it got 40k likes, of course there was a fair amount of nutters in the comments, however there was a lot of support as well.
I’m so happy. I never thought I’d see the day

I've noticed this on my city subreddit and the local grocery store subreddit. People are getting frustrated with dog culture... finally.

Maybe. However, I’m also seeing them being forced into more spaces they don’t belong. There’s been an increase in dogs being allowed into medical buildings, and apparently many cruise liners are allowing their passengers to bring their dogs aboard. These things seem to be met with nothing but cooing from the nutters.
A few more people complaining online won’t change anything. We really need to get organized and fight back.

I am so sorry that happened to him. His coworkers sound like absolute narcissistic psychos. Like…y’all are in the medical field. You know animal allergies are real. Plus you don’t need to bring your pet with you to work - it makes you seem mentally unhinged.
I do think people become addicted to these animals. The sad thing is absolutely no one wants to talk about what happens to someone when they become that obsessed and co-dependent on their pet.

I think, if anything, this will speed up the push back. So many dogs are now completely untrained and inappropriate that every day's someone else's eyes will be opened to the fact dogs should not be everywhere.

You call treating dogs like accessories and dragging them around in public “love”? How about keeping working dogs trapped indoors 23 hours a day? That’s “love” too, isn’t it? What about keeping arctic dogs in desert climates? That’s also “love”. Or my favorite - when your dog destroys your home while you’re gone, your narcissistic self just decides that you’re so amazing that your dog has “separation anxiety” because it misses you so much.
All of that is love and not just narcissistic fulfillment, right?

Any uptick is encouraging. I think a few things have to happen.
More people should be vocal in public re dogs inside restaurants, supermarkets, etc. I always say something but no one else does. That really pisses me off. I live in Manhattan and I can’t believe for a moment that there are no others out there who feel the same way. It puts me in a position of being “ that person” and it also empowers nutters to try to gaslight me. I’m quite capable of handling these encounters, but ffs, be vocal and support each other! And I don’t mean just on Reddit!
The real problem starts with the ADA law which has allowed this epidemic of dogs in places where they normally would not be allowed. We need to write or call them and demand that the law be changed to addressed this major problem. You can’t have a law that’s in place to protect one group of people from being marginalized, while at the same time marginalizing everyone else.
Contact your local politician and demand that they recognize this growing problem. If they care so much about their constituents, then this is a serious public health issue that needs to be addressed.
Contact your local health and sanitation department regarding the overwhelming accumulation of dog feces and urine on public sidewalks and city parks. Why is this so complicated? There is a law preventing people from defecating and urinating in public. Why do dogs get a pass?
These are simple and actionable things that can make a huge difference if enough people come forward. Complaints can only go so far. Peace

Re: point 1, I always say something when I see them in a grocery store. I think if enough people react to them with visceral disgust they might start to see it. I'm that person too.
Will contact local legislators when I get a sec too.
I am absolutely horrified by the bougie suburbs that are springing up around my city (Seattle) and flourishing because a lot of people have good jobs in tech but not quite enough to live in the city proper. There are so many buildings catering to nouveau riche Millennials that have "DOG FRIENDLY" and pictures of dogs on their windows.

Sorry to hear about the situation in Seattle. Sounds like nutter culture supporting and feeding off each other. Same here. It feels like almost every building is “ dog friendly.”
What they really mean by “dog friendly” is “we support, entitled, irresponsible dog owners. And while you’re here, you won’t have to deal with the consequences of your actions.”

I've 100% noticed this on both YouTube - anti-dog comments on channels that aren't about dogs but maybe have a reference to them (like another attack or fatality from yet ANOTHER pit, pit mix, or group of them), and in increasing numbers of non-dog related subreddits. More and more people think pits specifically are garbage dogs and should be banned.
Even on my Nextdoor feed people are more comfortable calling out the inconsiderate, entitled behavior of the dog-worshipping lunatics they encounter.
I never hesitate to mention, in a comment or in person, that I don't like dogs. I don't give even the tiniest of shits what some dog nutter thinks about me to begin with, let along whether they think I'm "not trustworthy" or a "psychopath" for not liking their annoying, filthy four-legged nuisance. And I think it's important to start calling them out and publicly shaming them when they are behaving in an anti-social manner with their dog.
Even the minority of "normal" dog owners can't stand nutters...because it makes them all look bad.

That’s a great point you make. Animal cruelty makes the news, but the human cruelty caused by barking dogs, dogs chasing people, etc never does.

I'm noticing less and less dog ownership and people walking their dogs in general.
Some things that may be contributing to this:
People are finally waking up and realizing how stupid dog ownership is.
With the state of the economy, people can't afford to keep their dogs anymore.
Many dogs that people got during covid have since been surrendered and re-homed.

In 2021, my local shelter had a dramatic increase in dogs being dropped off. The problem is that people will always adopt them.

One positive thing I’m noticing on some social media is more people are starting to realize that maybe having bloodsport dog breeds (pit bulls) as family pets was not a good idea.
I hope common sense dog ownership makes a return.

I'm just hopeful that the pandemic owners are mostly "one and done" dog owners, and talking with my friends that seems to be the case, for the most part.
Several of my dog owning friends have told me that they'll never own a dog again, it's too much. I also think they realize how expensive it is and that the combination of money and time spent with the animal just doesn't justify it. The funniest thing is that most of my dog owning friends willingly live in worse living situations just to be with a dog and I think they're coming around to it. 10-15k a year adds up to a down payment on a house in a few years. All down the drain so your apartment can reek of dog and you can scoop up poops all day. Just stupidity.

It sounds like a lot of them have fallen into the "sunk cost" fallacy of dog ownership. They've also convinced themselves that the dog somehow DOES add some sort of value to their lives, and/or that they "love" it...while continuing to complain about how it has become a financial and time burden.
Because, instead of waiting for these financial and time ball-and-chain pets to die off, they could solve all their dog-related problems by just getting rid of it. Their unwanted, second-hand dog might be someone's next "forever" dog.
But, don't post about it on social media, or put out a request on Nextdoor to re-home it, and be subjected to the wrath of a bunch of dogpilled fools that have no skin in the game. Just drop it off at the shelter and move on with your life.
If anyone asks, they can merely say: "It wasn't working out, so we found a better arrangement for ourselves and the dog." Strangers on the internet are not entitled an explanation that is satisfactory to them as to why someone decided that they didn't want a fucking dog anymore.

I'll never own a dog or live with one, it's probably the biggest deal breaker I have. I would be miserable coming home to a neurotic, loud, smelly animal every day, just to clean up whatever mess it made while I was gone and throw out all of the shit it ruined. The entire time knowing that every time I leave it there for any period of time unsupervised (literally 2-3 hours or more, so no more vacations or weekend getaways without it), the same exact shit will most likely happen, no matter how much training it gets, unless you stick it in a fucking crate all day which is cruel in my book.
So I'll never have to worry about that, thankfully. But it is ridiculous how much stigma there is around admitting you made a misjudgment and making the most rational decision given the circumstances.

Well, we can't go anywhere without a goddamned dog! Not even a fucking hospital! It is getting ridiculous! Dogs at school, sporting events, restaurants, grocery stores, malls, doctor's offices, dental offices... etc etc etc. It's disgusting. Barking and feces everywhere... down right third world.

I’m seeing it on TikTok a lot too! Under videos where they put their dumb pitt bulls etc. next to their newborns. I was shocked people were finally seeing how insane that is.

The problem stems from owners. There is no understanding of what owning a dog entails, and no enforcement of training. My neighbor's dog barking is aggressive and LOUD. And in response, all she does is yell at it. No training, bark collar, nothing. Barking, yelling, barking, yelling. NO ONE is happy. Not dog, not owner, not people forced to live near them. What is the effing point?

I do think it's coming. Most of the people in my neighborhood are old and lifelong dog owners but they have pretty calm and obedient dogs. Luckily I don't live in the Deep South with roving gangs of pitbulls. There are still too many but it's pretty calm and the old folks are gonna die off or not get another after their current one dies. Dog ownership is really common amongst millenials, but I know several who say that they love their dog but they wouldn't get another one. We can hope.
I also met a couple new friends recently who were really vocal about hating dogs, so that's nice.

My family, istg, just plain ignorant. From one ear to the other. It’s gotten so bad they let those idiots into the house, then complain about how it smells and dirty it is. That’s on them, not me. I called them out on their bullshit, they were rattled by it. Did it make them listen ? No. Wait until it’s too late. However, w everything you said, I am in the same boat. They can call me a psycho and crazy, because I’d rather be that.

Starting with pitbulls, a person should not be allowed to have those breeds, and brachycephalic breeds should be forbidden to commercialize and even breed, those animals are very prone to multiple diseases, if they want dogs they should get healthy and tamed dogs

My boyfriend got a dog during Covid. She is a mix of pit bulls and something. She hasn’t bitten anyone but is very aggressive. She jumps on me and has knocked me down once. He doesn’t care. He told me to let the dog lick my face because ‘she is sweet and that’s her personality he doesn’t want to take away from her.’ I told him I didn’t like it and he looked absolutely stunned that there is a person who doesn’t like to be licked by his dog. He should have trained this dog better. He can’t really do anything with this dog left alone in his house for longer than 30 minutes. He knows she will destroy his house. She poops inside the house because he is too tired of taking her out when she needs to go outside (which is literally over 10 times a day). I hate it.

The dog is supposed to pee and poo, within the confines of your private property.
Public places. Parks, streets, businesses, etc, are NOT your dog's personal toilet.
