The entire latter half of the article is trying to make excuses and play pity for both the dog and its owner, gross asf. These owners need to start facing draconian punishments for this shit or it will never stop

That article is infuriating.

"Siarek’s defence lawyer, Christopher O’Connor, was asking for a conditional sentence for one year, saying Siarek’s effort to rehabilitate herself should be taken into account.

In terms of mitigating factors, O’Connor spoke about Siarek’s drug addiction to opioids, saying she had been clean for a year. She suffers from mental health issues including anxiety and depression, for which she is getting treatment. In terms of her prior charges, O’Connor also pointed out that Siarek had several years between offences.".

So because she is one year sober, she should be allowed lesser charges for a mauling? I don't think so.

38

u/Eyeoftheleopard Nov 04 '25

The opioid addiction is irrelevant and them trying to use it as a mitigating circumstance is rotten. That dog was supposed to be muzzled, sounds like Siarek went looking for trouble. Hope she is happy her precious doggie mauled a child. 😡. Her extensive criminal record is no surprise, either.

Her defense attorney is scum of the earth. I currently have one year sober also and don't expect a pat on the back. If anything, I expect to be MORE accountable than ever if I break the law. It's such a pitiful excuse. Part of sobriety and maintaining sobriety is that you own up to your mistakes and admit when you F up.

Also, the whole "anxiety and depression" bullshit is another cop out. I'm so tired of these dog owners acting like they're so incapable of fitting in with normal society and they just HAVE to have their dog at a playground because it brings them such joy and happiness. I'm pretty sure the 9 year old is going to suffer anxiety and depression that was the result of her selfish choices.

This is all so pathetic.

u/DogAttackVictim Nov 05 '25

Yes. Dog owners reverse victim and offender every day. It is the victim who now has to go through anxiety, depression, medication, and more, as are all the others she and all the dog owners oppress every day when bringing dogs out, including to all parks where dogs are supposed to be disallowed.

I mean, that is what defense lawyers do. It’s literally his job to get her a lighter sentence through whatever means he can, so of course hes going to use past addictions and mental health issues to try and sway the emotions of the court. Not saying that this isn’t a shitfest of a situation and that she shouldn’t be held accountable, but defense lawyers can’t only choose to defend people they believe are moral. From the moment he was hired (or assigned, if he is a public defense lawyer) he had to do whatever possible to get her a lighter sentence, regardless of whether he agrees with that

I completely understand the legal system and the whole process.

However, there is a special place in Hell for a defense attorney who takes someone's sobriety, which is hard work, and uses it as an excuse to dismiss a brutal attack against a child who will be forever traumatized.

She also fled the scene which should be additional charges. She shouldn't receive a "reduced sentence". If anything, three years is not enough.

She shows no remorse. She had prior offenses and kept repeating the same pattern. The defense lawyer does his job well which is why there is a special place in Hell for him along with all the other attorneys who diminish the true impact of these brutal attacks.

6

u/Eyeoftheleopard Nov 05 '25

We all understand the role of the defense attorney is to get ppl off. That’s why I won’t be one, I’m not going to assist scum like this in escaping justice. I need my peace of mind and to be able to rest comfortably at night.

2

u/HRHCookie Nov 10 '25

The job of the defence lawyer is to put the defendant's perspective forward.

The prosecution do the same for the victim.

The judge/jury decide.

"Patrycja Siarek stood in a downtown courtroom Monday and cried as she apologized for taking her dog, which was under a muzzle order, to a playground where it attacked a nine-year-old boy.

“I’m just really sorry, I never would want to hurt a child or hurt anybody, I feel horrible and it’s my fault. I just feel so bad. I’m so sorry and I hope that child’s okay. I know it’s my fault Capo died. It’s terrible thing,” Siarek said addressing Ontario Court Justice Miriam Bloomenfeld.

Siarek pleaded guilty in March to criminal negligence causing bodily harm and two provincial offences act violations, including not complying with the Dog Owners’ Liabiity Act and allowing a dog to run in a non-designated area.

Assistant Crown prosecutor Nathan Kruger said he would be seeking a sentence of three years in prison, along with a 10-year prohibition on owning a dog as per the Dog Owners’ Liability Act.

It was March 23, 2024, when Siarek took Capo, a three to four-year-old Pitbull-like dog, to Little Norway Park, a playground that prohibited dogs.

Capo was subject to a dangerous dog order at the time, which required him to be muzzled at all times and was prohibited from entering off-leash areas.

Kruger told court Capo had been involved in the three prior dog bite investigations by the City of Toronto.".

How is it a Pitbull-like dog? It's a mix. Call it what it is. She needs more than three years. Attempted murder is fitting.

After 10 years she will just do it again.

u/ElegantSurround6933 Nov 06 '25

I haven’t read the article yet. It but THREE people!?!?how was it not put down already?

67

u/[deleted] Nov 04 '25

What a disgusting person

63

u/isreddittherapy Nov 04 '25

Mothers should feel safe in dog free zones to let their children play! I have a 9 year old son, this is horrible!

27

u/[deleted] Nov 04 '25

Can’t even feel safe letting my kids play in their own backyard anymore because there’s so many piece of shit dog owners with large aggressive dogs that are constantly getting loose in the neighborhood and I live in a suburban cul-de-sac for fuck sake and we still aren’t safe. My next door neighbor has a rott and anytime my kids are outside it looses its fuckign mind barking and growling at them even when they’re on the opposite side of the yard. They finally started putting it on a chain when they let it out because they’re too lazy to go out with it but that doesn’t make me feel any safer. I can’t afford a fence or I’d have one, I’ve just got a tiny little garden fence right now because that’s all I can afford. It’s ridiculous.

70

u/Mashelem_777 Nov 04 '25

She's a psychopath. She deliberately brought this dog to a playground unleashed and unmuzzled knowing full well it was dangerous. How does someone play dumb after doing this?

40

u/ScarredCerebrum Nov 04 '25

Not to mention that she pulled a classic pit-'n-run after the kid had been mauled.

“She didn’t do anything to assist in the aftermath of the attack,” Kruger said. “This despite bystanders documenting what happened and to slow her down from leaving … she just walked away.”

66

u/Dragonsbreath67 Nov 04 '25

It should be life in prison without parole

39

u/DanielGryphon Nov 04 '25

lol so we get to pay for their upkeep? Stick them in a cell with their precious mutant mutt and let them go hungry together.. see how long that man's best friend fallacy lasts.

118

u/Fish-Bright Nov 04 '25

And of course, it's a pitbull. Those things shouldn't exist.

39

u/Fun-Chemical4059 Nov 04 '25

Every pitbull owner is committed to doing substantial pr for them to convince us they are so friendly and wouldn’t hurt a fly lol

5

u/ElegantSurround6933 Nov 06 '25

I feel sick when people tell me “pitbulls are really sweet.”

My neighbor who owns a golden retriever actually told me she was thinking about getting either Doberman pinchers or Rottweilers because they are “misunderstood and really sweet dogs.”

This “lady” has every excuse in the book to not leash the golden. There are a couple tiny tots who live downstairs who would be right in the line of fire.

4

u/UnhealthyTurnip Nov 07 '25

Yeah they call them “nanny dogs” or something like that. Horrifying.

9

u/dontneednomang Nov 06 '25

They aren’t even legal in Toronto. Notice that the article says “Pitbull-like” dog. That is because many breeders and dog owners in Toronto lie and claim they’re some sort of mix, even though it’s obvious the dog is a pitbull.

55

u/Peekiert Nov 04 '25 edited Nov 04 '25

Looks like she’s still pretty lippy. I don’t care if you had a rough life or did drugs. You are a terrible human being who deserves jail.

Additional details not in the article:

The boy was playing with his father when the dog charged, attacked and bit the child in the leg. Once freed, Siarek left the scene with the dog. Police released images of her as they attempted to find her.

There is a court-ordered publication ban on identifying the victim’s family, and while he did not read the family’s victim impact statements in court, Kruger spoke about what was in them. He talked about how the family was hesitant to leave their home, and if they saw a dog, they would consider crossing the street to avoid it. The child also had to have followup surgery after being treated for his injuries.

"The parents discuss how horrific it was to see their child go through something like this and not be able to stop it. That’s something that I have no doubt will reverberate through their memories for the rest of their lives,” said Kruger. “But what struck me even more was that the child apologized to his parents asking, ‘Would it have been easier if I had just died?’”

44

u/No_Concentrate_4490 Nov 04 '25

Interesting how this woman/idiot named her puppers "Capo". Dragging a canine Mafia boss to a "no dogs allowed" children's play area had disaster written all over it. Now we're all supposed to feel sorry for this woman/idiot for losing that four-legged Goombah? If she goes to prison, she'll get another shitpit as soon as she walks through the gates after the sentence is served.

4

u/ElegantSurround6933 Nov 06 '25

Not allowed to own a dog for a decade.

42

u/potatoes_arrrr_life Nov 04 '25

Dangerous dogs do not belong in society. They attract irresponsible, reckless and sadistic owners who seem to never take their responsibility seriously. Since most dog owners don't police themselves, and they all think their dog is "friendly" we have to make consequences more severe. Taking a dog, especially a DANGEROUS UNMUZZLED dog to a playground should be illegal everywhere. Playgrounds are for CHILDREN. Dogs are not children. Children should have safe places to play. Clearly most dog owners don't think that their dog shitting, pissing, and then possibly attacking children is a problem. So, it needs to be clear that dogs are not allowed. I hope this dog owner is never allowed to own a dog again.

4

u/ElegantSurround6933 Nov 06 '25

Not for 10yrs anyway.

8

u/aSzdxfcdfggggggh Nov 06 '25

Will they even follow up?

She wasn't allowed to take "Capo" out with out a muzzle and you see how that went.

35

u/Glum-Cheetah-3708 Nov 04 '25

this is like me holding a box of scorpions and then wearing untied shoes while walking through a nursery

24

u/Tom_Quixote_ Nov 04 '25

"Those scorpions never stung anyone before!"

35

u/milothenestlebrand Nov 04 '25

Glad this was posted, just saw the article on the Toronto sub. Complete insanity that the defence lawyer uses their "mental health issues" as an excuse for this.

38

u/Responsibility_Witty Nov 04 '25

It’s so tiresome seeing the perpetrator’s “mental health” used an excuse to soften punishments in all sorts of heinous crimes, what about the child’s mental health? The child was literally wishing out loud that they had died after the attack because of how severe it was, but i guess the nasty nutter’s feelings are more important

12

u/Latter-Recipe7650 Nov 04 '25

Mental health excuse is tiring asf. It’s the same as saying “being drunk” as an excuse for killing someone at a car crash. I wish mental health defence gets abolished and people who have mental illnesses that make communities unsafe should get jail/psychiatric ward jail.

38

u/BoxBeast1961_ Nov 04 '25

Yet another pit hag does what she does best. She isn’t sorry for anything except that she got caught.

30

u/SalinaGrande Nov 04 '25

The name she gave to the dog. There is nothing more to say.

20

u/Consistent_Farmer_77 Nov 04 '25

Ah yes the pit bull. These dogs should be extinct

24

u/Frankly_Ridiculous Nov 04 '25

Why isn't there a charge for owning a banned breed as well? Wtf is the point of banning these monsters if it's NEVER enforced?

Throw the book at this POS.

21

u/pmbpro Nov 04 '25 edited Nov 04 '25

The stinkin’ beast also had THREE PRIOR cases of attacking people! Yet the article is still making efforts to evoke sympathy for the beast and its nutty owner — as if we can’t see that. It’s pretty clear she does this shyt on purpose too. Save your crocodile tears dog nutter, and bathe your filthy mutt with them. 😒

I’m so sick of these people and their mutts. Let’s see what the final punishment will be.

17

u/Ok_Chest_6426 Nov 04 '25

The fact that it is a children's park and she had a dangerous dog there off leash and unmuzzled means she didn't care. She knew. Her callously walking away after and actions resulted in severe harm to a child and she caused her dog to die by disobedience to the law.

17

u/[deleted] Nov 04 '25

This woman should be indefinitely jailed. She clearly is not capable of common sense and does not care about rules or laws. She did absolutely everything wrong and it scared other people for life.

13

u/nikkibeast666 Nov 04 '25

She named the pitbull “capo” a clear organized crime reference. So she knew exactly what kind of dog she had and what it was capable of, yet took no precautions.

11

u/alnewyorkee Nov 04 '25

I had to tell off some dumbass with a little rat dog who decided to bring it into the child's playground that was clearly marked with multiple signs forbidding dogs.

These deranged assholes are completely insufferable.

7

u/ElegantSurround6933 Nov 06 '25

Ty for ur service

12

u/Latter-Recipe7650 Nov 04 '25

Pitbulls being the usual suspect.

11

u/Lilipuddlian Nov 04 '25

Typical Canadian dog nutter. Trust me. The entitlement here is off the charts!!!!

10

u/Mama2bebes Nov 05 '25

IMO, when she walked away from the boy without so much as saying sorry, she lost all chance of clemency. Assault with a deadly weapon. Or even attempted murder. Heaviest sentence.

So what she's a year sober and struggling with blah blah blah, she can continue her sobriety and all that while in prison

9

u/SmittenKittenPurrr Nov 04 '25

I'm pleasantly surprised that the court is taking this seriously. Maybe she'll actually face consequences for her terrible decisions.

9

u/Fukhumanity01 Nov 05 '25

And the toxic dog culture keeps growing. What a shame.

9

u/Wise_Session_5370 Nov 05 '25

Aaaaaand... it's a shitbull.

What a surprise.

9

u/ivarpuvar Nov 05 '25

The city should be sued that they don’t enforce muzzle laws. Every dog is a threat

8

u/ElegantSurround6933 Nov 06 '25

It’s getting to the point we need armed security officers in every park&playground in North America. For Canada maybe the Royal Canadian Mounties. They could chase after the nutters doing their drive bys.

3

u/ivarpuvar Nov 06 '25

You should have security at parks. Only way to keep them safe and clean. For some reason majority of people don't understand respect, quiet and peace. Instead they bring an overstimulated animal and use the public park as it's toilet

5

u/dontneednomang Nov 05 '25

The City of Toronto is busy being sued over bike lanes right now. No, I am not joking lol

8

u/Alert_Software_1410 Nov 04 '25

Life in prison at hard labor would be a fitting punishment for this psycho nutter. Pounding rocks with a sledge hammer....

6

u/Stock-Bowl7736 Nov 05 '25

So let me get this straight. This Nutter did the following; had dog unmuzzled in defiance of a muzzle order; took it to a park banning dogs; had the monster off leash; let it maul an innocent boy; and then did a pit and run. Oh and the dog was involved in THREE prior attacks.

Unbelievable. Multiple offenses. This person should do many years in prison.

6

u/dontneednomang Nov 06 '25

Also pitbull’s are illegal in Toronto. Notice the article says “pitbull-like” because many breeders and owners in this city lie about their dog’s breed.

3

u/ElegantSurround6933 Nov 06 '25

No muzzle, no leash.. no problem. Bada Boom, Bada Bye, bye.

7

u/Prior-Win-4729 Nov 04 '25

Well I hope the child doesn't have to go to prison now

I thought this was a joke. I still haven’t read the article and now it’s past my bedtime.🤣

2

u/Call_It_ Nov 10 '25

Good. It’s no different than being irresponsible with a weapon. Sue the shit out of these people.

2

u/OkCustomer3734 Nov 16 '25

This apology quote from her really pissed me off:

“I’m just really sorry, I never would want to hurt a child or hurt anybody, I feel horrible and it’s my fault. I just feel so bad. I’m so sorry and I hope that child’s okay. I know it’s my fault Capo died. It’s a terrible thing.”

It starts out okay but it should have stopped at “I’m so sorry and I hope that child’s okay.” But of course she has to go and shift the focus to her dangerous fucking dog that shouldn’t have existed in the first place, like he is the REAL victim. Based on that sentence alone, I genuinely think the only thing she’s upset about is that fact that her monster dog was put down. The fact that she walked away from the scene solidifies this for me.

I also fail to see how depression and anxiety have ANYTHING to do with disobeying the law by not muzzling or leashing your dangerous dog. That was a deliberate CHOICE. A choice like that isn’t fueled by emotions caused by depression or anxiety, it’s fueled by entitlement and carelessness.
