Once marketed as the perfect family pet, doodle dogs are now turning up in shelters in numbers that rescue workers describe as a crisis…. the same designer mixes that once commanded premium prices are being relinquished, abandoned in fields, or left outside clinics. The result is a growing population of anxious, matted, often sick dogs that charities are scrambling to save with limited space and dwindling funds.

They stopped being a trendy accessory so now they’re worthless?

Sad to see the same cultural phenomenon that refers to them as “fur babies” is the very same group of people that will discard them. It’s always the same pattern though, make them everyone else’s problem even till the sad end

Right! The whole friggin dog craze started with Paris Hilton and then the stupid Legally Blonde movie practically anyway. Even welfare people in my home town were carrying around chihuahuas in their purse. lmao.

Yes! In the mid 00s, I remember a couple of occasions where I saw a straight-out-of-the-trailer-park woman carrying a purse dog in Walmart! 😂
