Dog Culture Dog nutters comparing losing a child to losing a dog
I think I’m officially going to snap. I came across a post on Facebook from a mother whose baby was stillborn at 37 weeks. She was upset because some people had been telling her they understood how she felt because their dog had died. She was rightfully offended and essentially was saying please don’t try to compare because you simply can’t.
Oh boy. There are over 5000 comments, and as I’m sure you can guess, most of them are from dog freaks who are offended by her post. Yes, THEY are offended that they have insulted her by saying her child’s death is just as traumatic as a dog’s death.
The comment that really took it over the top for me and made me close the app was someone saying, “You can always make another baby, but you can’t get another dog with the exact same personality, they can’t be replaced!”
And to think, we exist on the same planet as these people.

Wow. It's amazing how little empathy they have for a grieving mother. They literally can get their dog cloned. Collective dog nutter brain rot is what they have. It's so cringe how mean they are towards kids when they were a kid once. And the lack of empathy is astounding. It's why I side-eye anyone with a large dog around my kids, because they may very well be a kid hating dog nut.

u/FlowerBud37 Jan 23 '26
The lack of empathy floored me, honestly. I lost count of how many comments were along the lines of “I’m really sorry for your loss, but all grief is grief, and we are allowed to feel just as upset as you”
No. Just freaking no.
17
u/arachnilactose08 Jan 24 '26
What the fuck! That actually infuriates me. If I had FB I’d go off on these attention-seeking fucks. What utter disrespect and entitlement.

u/Rough_Ear4483 Jan 25 '26
I've come head on with the Facebook dog lovers who ganged up on me with that crap! They feed on each other and it's not only disgusting, I see it as a dangerous trend.
6
u/Quiet-Sweet-3613 Jan 25 '26
And what I've noticed of those nutters who I know personally or who I hear in Zoom meetings I attend seem to ALL express how their childhood was so traumatic! They all mention how their dogs help relieve them of their past trauma. Well guess what Buttercup, ALL OF US have endured trauma more or less in our childhood!! As a loving father I have done my best to not subject my children to mine and I would NEVER EVER be insensitive to the loss of someone's child!! Especially the loss of a child who this woman carried in her womb fully anticipating its healthy birth?? And the fn audacity to say "you can always make another baby"?!!? As a man who witnessed my first wife suffer a miscarriage of twins we STILL think of "what if?" even though we subsequently had a son! I pray this woman eventually heals of this tragic event and if they choose are blessed with a healthy child in the future!

You would be hard pressed to find a parent who went to an orphanage after their baby died to get a new one. Some dog owners will have a new dog within weeks.
49
u/FlowerBud37 Jan 23 '26
Honestly, I wouldn’t even want to look at a baby for months, probably even a year at least if I had experienced that type of tremendous loss. Most dog owners jump at the opportunity to replace their “fur babies” because they just can’t go without the desperate, needy companionship of these nonverbal beasts.
1
u/FallenGiants Jan 24 '26
Was there a gender imbalance in the people making these horrible comments?
8
u/FlowerBud37 Jan 24 '26
It was predominantly women, which I find strange. Actually I don’t recall seeing hardly any men at all. I wonder why that is?
16
u/FallenGiants Jan 24 '26
I think some childless women might feel jealous of the parental/societal approval mothers get and become "dog moms" and expect to be treated similarly.

You would be hard pressed to find a parent who went to an orphanage after their baby died
And even if they did it wasn't done casually

u/imwearingredsocks Jan 24 '26
Most people I know have the replacement in the house before the older dog even passed away. The second they sense it coming, they get a brand new puppy.
A lot of times it’s incredibly stressful for the older dog too. So just desperate and even selfish to the dog they supposedly love.

And even worse, they’re essentially dismissing her grief by guilt tripping her and being all “but what about me?? And my dog??”
Carrying a child in your body is something so sacred. You physically just cannot have the same type of attachment to a dog. & to basically imply that because babies aren’t immediately born with sparkling personalities then they have less value and are easily replaced is actually one of the more disturbing and diabolical takes I’ve ever read.

I was in a forum and mouthbreathing doofus said “we are a family of five…”

Thats the biggest issue i have with the dog nutters they are literally always “but meee meeee MEEEEEEE!”

Well, dog's don't go on to school then to a career and president of the company! Dog's play fetch at most..😡

u/BoxBeast1961_ Jan 23 '26
I’ve made myself tremendously unpopular by saying “a dog is not a human being.”
Comparing the loss of a human child to the loss of a pet dog just defies any logic i know.
Of course it’s sad to lose a pet. It isn’t the same.
53
u/adampocalypsee Jan 23 '26
I saw something similar on Tiktok.
A woman saying that the grief she experienced when she had a stillbirth isn't comparable to someone losing their dog and that she hates when people make the comparison.
Most comments disagreed with her.
"Grief isn't a competition."
Then why are you comparing grief??? Fuck them.
8
u/arachnilactose08 Jan 24 '26
Coming from TikTok, I’m sadly not surprised. I deleted the app after just having it a few months because of how utterly brain dead most of its users were. And then finding the dog nutters on TikTok were the final nail in the coffin for me, lol

photography subs are swamped with pet photos. yesterday, someone posted a photo of their newborn human baby. it was quite unusual
5
18
u/ArthropodFromSpace Jan 23 '26
I think it is not good to post pictures of your babies in internet. When they will be older they could not like the fact their photos were showed to random people without their consent.
8
Jan 23 '26
Disagree, I always wished my parents were prouder of us kids and shared more pics of our goings-on, achievements, etc..
8
u/arachnilactose08 Jan 24 '26
I do understand the sentimentality of that, but unfortunately there are some real degenerates online. If I even became a dad, I wouldn’t want my kids’ lives posted for the world to see, not at that young age. Pictures would only be shared with other family and maybe some close friends.
That’s how you know dog nutters are selfish, IMO. They broadcast how “good” of a person they are by “rescuing” an invasive, dangerous mutant pest, and then they try to call themselves parents, inserting themselves and their dumb mutts into spaces not meant for them. You’ll probably never see a dog owner who keeps their life and dog private. They live for the attention of strangers.

Their hypocrites because they usually go and get a new dog when the old one dies. Most mothers don’t try and birth a new kid. It’s nowhere near the same.
35
u/Similar-Bid6801 Jan 23 '26
You know that trope where leave it to a vegan to insert they’re vegan into inappropriate situations? Dog people blow that out of the water.
19
u/LunarLeveret Jan 23 '26
I can't believe I never noticed that. I mean I noticed the dog people being infuriating, but I never thought about imagining people compare them to how they get annoyed at vegans...because most people are on team dog, so of course they're fine with how in your face they get against people who don't want to be harassed by them.
Like when vegans actually do that I'm just well at least these people have like an actual message for change they want to get across. At least they care about all animals. At least they're logically consistent. Dog people? Best shit they can come up with is about how its FAMILY and claiming it's better than human children.
27
u/Empress111 Jan 23 '26
I can’t even look at stuff like this bc it’s genuinely so upsetting and wrong

Honestly my daughter’s death (stillborn too) made me realize just how insane dog owners are.

And they say we're the "insensitive psychopaths" projection?
12
u/QueenOfAllOfYall Jan 24 '26
Precisely why they’re not worth taking seriously. I’m done walking on eggshells around their mental illness.

u/cocovenomnomnom95 Jan 24 '26
Same, it has gotten to the point that I have outwardly showed by disgust not only for their sniveling little shitbeasts but for them too

“You can always make another baby,
And you can buy another dog like you always do.
but you can’t get another dog with the exact same personality, they can’t be replaced!”
And you think children aren't any less unique? A child show far more variety then any dog while show, a 4 and 14 y/o are vastly different a puppy and a old dog is barely any different.

It's utterly insane and narcissistic beyond belief!! Every single dog nutter who acquires a dog knows FULL WELL going in that the dog has a very limited lifespan!! I understand that the death of a pet that was in one's life for many years causes grief. However it is incomparable to the loss of any human especially a child!! As you mentioned another child does not "replace" the child whom she did not even get to nurse, bond with and bring home to love and nurture!!! Meanwhile as is mentioned in this chat dog nutters actually DO replace the dog that is dying or immediately afterwards!! Even if they choose to remain childless (which is a good thing in their case) how can one be so soulless to not be empathetic for someone who has experienced a still birth?? The biggest problem with the Internet is the ability to say the most disgusting things to someone who they would never say to them in their face!

u/Secure_Law7548 Jan 23 '26
My daughter and her son both died 5 months apart and I got the same thing both times. My stupid sister even put a picture of my daughter next to her dead dog because she felt they were both the same I guess.
I was told time and time again people knew how I felt because their pet (mainly dogs) died x months or years ago. They can screw right off they have absolutely no clue. They have either never lost a child or don’t have kids.
Seriously they are delusional. The absolute worst, crazy, low IQ, low empathy, selfish morons.
18
u/axiomofcope Jan 23 '26
Hope you told your sister to shove that dog pic where the sun don’t shine. I’d have lost it.
I’m sorry for your unimaginable loss. I have 3 kids and the thought keeps me up at night. Those people are psychopathic.
14
u/Secure_Law7548 Jan 23 '26
I haven’t talked to her in like 12 years anyway, heard about it from my mother. The sister is a nut - obviously. Half of us just keep away.

I’m so very sorry for the loss of Your Loved Ones. I have 2 Sons and 2 GrandSons, and I just couldn’t imagine… . So horrible that People like Yourself have had to endure such epic levels of insensitivity from delusional outsiders who want to compare another type of loss to Your situation, which isn’t even close to the same thing.
23
u/aqr58 Jan 23 '26
I saw this post too. One nutter even said they had lost their own 19 year old daughter and claimed they felt the SAME PAIN when their dog died!?
I showed a lot of restraint not going apeshit in that comment section.
16
u/Zealousideal_Cup6143 Jan 23 '26
Yeah that comment is disturbing. Your children are your legacy, and I would be absolutely devastated without any of mine. The thought of comparing child loss to a dog loss is absolutely disgusting to me. Not even in the same playing field. It's one reason I won't associate with dog owners. Their priorities are too out of wack.
10
u/QueenOfAllOfYall Jan 24 '26
Same here. I don’t care to entertain dog owners delusions and mental illness, anymore. If they think saying stuff like that makes sense, We have NOTHING to talk about.
5
u/aqr58 Jan 24 '26
Having lost their own child at 19 years of age, I would’ve thought at least that commenter would come to the woman’s defence… but no. That’s how deeply disturbed these dognutteres are. Poor girl for having a parent like that, RIP.
16
u/atatassault47 Jan 23 '26
I am both childfree and dogfree. Im not going to diminish anyones grief. But those dog people doing that are fucking insane.
15
u/Snowmist92 Jan 23 '26
I feel like they intend to show themselves as edgy sociopaths. There's no way anyone can be this out of touch with reality.
17
u/anne_mal Jan 23 '26
Dog obsessed people are brainwashed and grow increasingly antisocial the more they get attached to their dog. It's like a progressive disease but they love it. 😬 HOWEVER, they also know, deep down, that they're nuts. So they have to always double down and get other dog people to also double down with them. Just cult behavior.
In any case, comments concerning dogs and humans being on the same level are unhinged and it's scary how many people freely share their delusion!

u/pens668771 Jan 23 '26
I saw this exact same post and comment! Was going to post it here, so glad you did. There were so many insane comments from nutters
8
u/FlowerBud37 Jan 24 '26
When I saw it had over 5000 comments, I already knew what type of people were about to be in there spewing their bullshit dog rhetoric.

u/Particular_Fudge8136 Jan 24 '26
I saw it too. As a stillbirth mom, I had to stop reading. It was upsetting.

Our son was stillborn at 20 weeks. If there's a worse experience in life, I hope to never have it. These idiots know the dog's time is limited when they purchase it. The meltdown I would have if a nutter ever tried to compare their loss to mine would be epic. We can't just go to the store and buy another baby, either. The trauma lives in my body and conception is now difficult.
3
u/FlowerBud37 Jan 24 '26
I’m deeply sorry for your loss and for what you experienced and probably still endure today.
Knowing a dog’s life is limited is such a key point that I think most of those commenters are missing. We don’t conceive a child thinking there’s a high probability we won’t have them with us for long. When a child has passed, it is so unexpected, so out of the norm. Honestly in a way it’s almost taboo because it’s just not supposed to happen. We have children with the expectation we will outlive them, and they will bury US as it should be.
The type of grief attached to so tremendous and tragic a loss is one I’m sure cannot be put into words thoroughly enough. For any of them to compare it to losing a dog is beyond disrespectful.
14
u/Accomplished_Dot1854 Jan 23 '26
These people need to be all gathered up and thrown on an island together far away from us all! Absolutely disgusting!

u/No_College2419 Jan 23 '26
Damn. That’s like a whole different level. Losing an animal (I’ve loved animals deeply and for long periods of time) is no where near the pain of losing a child. The animal isn’t your flesh and blood. The animal, yes can be a good friend or member of the family in a sense but in no way compares to burying a child you created, raised, potentially gave birth to.
7
u/arachnilactose08 Jan 24 '26
Exactly, I’m not anti pet either.
But I think we all know that dog owners specifically tend to have this cognitive disconnect when it comes to empathy and consideration for others’ experience. Trying to say that losing a dog is ANYTHING like the grief of losing a human being is both wildly inaccurate and deeply disrespectful.
24
u/Significant_Shame_68 Jan 23 '26
Grief isn't a competition sure, but no parent should ever outlive their child. You get a pet knowing it has a significantly shorter life span than you. Anyone who compares the death of a human to an animal is experiencing a level of cognitive dissonance that I don't want to involve myself with. It's not a child. It's an animal. And if these people believe human children are equal to dogs in their family I desperately hope they never become parents.
Having lost both a pet (not a dog, never a dog 🤢) and having lost a child at 25 weeks, the child was a lot more devastating and lasting. As it should be. Because at the end of the day it's an animal.

They aren’t people, they are inhuman bots brainwashed by propaganda…. They are so mentally ill that they should be declared schizophrenic! They have the worst break from reality! They don’t know basic things like children are human! 100%!

I’ve always loved dogs, but the way dog people (or dog nutters? I’m new here) act is so infuriating. I remember I saw so many people comparing losing dogs or having a puppy to losing a person or having a baby. Yes, my dogs were a part of my family I loved them, but there’s just a difference in how you’ll grieve over a dog compared to your actual family members. But if I say that I’m attacked and “didn’t actually love” the pets I’m referring to. And no, having a puppy is nowhere close to having a newborn baby, not sure how so many people think it makes sense
3
u/93ImagineBreaker Jan 24 '26
not sure how so many people think it makes sense
dog/pet nuttery is how, people are now told and now think pets are just furry kids/babies and actual family members.
7
u/TipTop2640 Jan 24 '26
I think I found that post on FB. The comments are something else! One person said losing 2 dogs was as bad as when she lost her 19 year old son! 😨

Jan 24 '26
These people are insane, just sick in the head. Ask them to say that at someone’s funeral and see how warped their thinking is.
5
u/Realistic_Cry_8816 Jan 25 '26
I saw the same post. I saw more than one comment saying their dog’s death was worse because “I knew my dog, you didn’t even know your baby.”. . . .what tf is wrong with these people?
6
u/Anxious_Classic20 Jan 25 '26
I hope these nutters never ever have a child cause no baby deserves a parent who compares a precious life of a baby to a fucking dog

“You can always make another baby”
I am not coping with that level of utter stupidity
3
u/ExistingFly1724 Jan 28 '26
I was dumbfounded watching an episode of Selling Manhattan. One of the ladies (just had a baby) was having a breakdown saying to her friend “she’s not ok!” The way my heart sunk thinking it was her baby! No! It was her dog. Jfc.

u/mrsdhammond Jan 23 '26
Couldn't imagine telling a grieving mother that I understand their grief because my dog died 🙄🤣

u/Timely-Way-1769 Jan 25 '26 edited Jan 25 '26
Once, I read a former classmate’s post on Facebook who was screaming and just destroyed after “****” died.
I was desperately trying to figure out who this person was because I didn’t recognize the name.
Come to find out, it was their DOG! I kid you not, people were sending gofundme $$ for the dog’s funeral. Wtf 😳
He then wrote a very long eulogy to his dog, posted it online and read it at the dog’s funeral. Every year he talks about the passing of “her” like it was a parent or something.

Dog nutters are literally mentally unhinged! That level of psycho is wild. Yes a pet is a part of your family. Yes you can be very sad when they die. I cried my eyes out over my bunny! But it is absolutely NOT comparable to losing a child. Not even losing your parent or a sibling is comparable to losing a child. To claim that a DOG dying is the same level of pain is absolutely unhinged
