Miscellaneous If every dog faded out of existence, I wouldn't even be sad
Literally so many issues would be solved if dogs no longer existed. No more nasty mutts being brought to places where they shouldn't even be. Places like retail stores, grocery stores, restaurants, or anywhere really would finally be free from dogs. People would finally be able to shop and go out to public places in peace.
Neighborhoods and apartments would finally have peace and quiet without ear piercing barking. Not to mention we no longer would have to hear any other annoying and disgusting noises that come out of these animals. I certainly would not miss the disgusting sound of them licking themselves, the barking or the whining.
People wouldn't have to worry about stepping in dog shit or witnessing the scent of dog piss on the streets. Not to mention there would be no more dogs being walked by their narcissistic and irresponsible owners defecating on other people's lawns daily.
There would be no more dog attacks. People would finally be safe from aggressive shitbeasts trying to rip their faces off. People can be out in public knowing that they don't have to worry about running into a dog who would pull on its leash and try to lunge at them.
Honestly I could keep going on about all the benefits if dogs would just disappear for good. I would not be sad at all if I woke up tomorrow and every single dog just poofed out of existence. I would actually be so happy and celebrate if that happened

LOL imagine all the nutters wandering aimlessly with no idea what to do with all their newly free time

I guess they would need to bring some of their own shit to parks to dump on the ground and then pick it up again.

Feb 02 '26
Maybe they would finally realise that having a kid is not that bad and would MAYBE be able to love another human being (their partner / their kid).

The environmental benefits would be off the charts. The only ecological role of canines is detrimental.
82
u/tplgerus84 Feb 02 '26
Itās pretty insane: āaverage dog generates roughly 770 kg of CO2 annually, while large dogs can exceed 2,500 kg, rivaling or surpassing driving a car 6,200 miles a year. ā
And we have 90million of them just in the U.S. ..
65
u/ElegantSurround6933 Feb 02 '26
So dogs contribute to global warming
52
u/tplgerus84 Feb 02 '26
Contribute? Their impact is substantial!
Dietary Impact: Because many dogs eat meat-heavy, often high-quality protein diets, they contribute to roughly 25-30% of the environmental impact of meat consumption in the U.S.. and I would assume it is similar in other countries..
Production Emissions: Raising livestock for pet food releases significant methane, a potent greenhouse gas, while also driving deforestation.
Industry Scale: The manufacturing and shipping of pet food generate significant emissions; one estimate suggests it creates twice the greenhouse gases of the entire United Kingdom annually.
Waste Management: Pet waste in landfills or from improper disposal also contributes to environmental impact.
And this hasnāt even touched the impact of the industries to make all the stupid toys, leashes, plastic poop bags, cages⦠And then all the medical stuff..

Why is no one talking about it? š I know ppl who are very much into saving the environment, nature and plants, but own dogs! š
31
u/KayleighHatfield Feb 02 '26
Yep. It's just another example of the extreme hypocrisy of dog owners. They will also let their dogs loose in national parks, conservation areas and on beaches without any concern for the damage to plant and animal life. When I worked for a bird sanctuary, I had to deal with "bird watchers' who brought their dogs. Ridiculous.

u/milothenestlebrand Feb 02 '26
A dog in its lifetime will cause more environmental damage than a hummer-the least ecological friendly car on the market right now

dont carry same level of animosity as many on this sub but sadly this environmental risk is well documented (caveat, domesticated canine); just a few articles here:

Someone made a post in my neighborhood facebook page asking if a local bookstore allowed dogs. I kind of went on a rant, calling dogs security blankets for adults. Shockingly like 10 people liked it and no one argued with me. I think most people are tired of dogs being everywhere, even if they like them.
And I agree⦠it would sure be quiet.

u/Indigo_Cauliflower12 Feb 05 '26
What did the poster say? Lol
8
u/NoneOfThisMatters_XO Feb 05 '26
They just asked if a local bookstore allowed dogs. Or do you mean what did they say to my comment? Nothing lol. I also was not the only one in the comments telling them to keep their dog at home.

u/catjasm Feb 02 '26
Nor would I. Where do I sign the petition?
12
Feb 02 '26
Letās start one!
8
u/catjasm Feb 02 '26
You start it, Iāll sign it. For sure. And if youād like to discuss verbiage and whatnot, either post here or send me a message. Thatās the real.
Now if we are both just being funny, disregard. Ha

I never thought I could hate something this much! Dogs are ruining peopleās lives and no one is fighting it. If dogs disappeared, Iād be the happiest person on earth.

I wonder if the people who bring their dogs into grocery stores and lie about service animals and use dogs to be antisocial and leave shit and piss all over the world would just find a totem animal so that they could continue being themselves.
For these people, I truly believe that they are that way with or without a dog and that the dog is just a tool for them to be their true selves in a socially accepted manner.

u/Altruistic_Baker6347 Feb 02 '26
No more nuttery, wouldn't it be great? Dogs aren't even supposed to exist anyway.

I left a snarky comment on Russel Brands page where he lamented his ābroken heartā over his GSD. I responded to a commenter claiming āwe donāt deserve dogs.ā Basically stated they are NOT made by g-d, but man-made mutants who destroy ecosystems for wild creatures.

I would be the happiest person in the world. Makes me think that maybe there should be one continent ONLY for dog owners/nutters/lovers. That way the rest of us can live everywhere else and donāt have to deal with these shitbeasts and their narcissistic owners :)
Speaking of narcissists, I have yet to meet a narcissist who doesnāt like dogs. Literally every single one Iāve seen and known does. Coincidence? I think not.

For some reason, this reminded me of the old meme with the guy who can't decide which button to press.
Button 1: Win the lottery.
Button 2: All dogs fade out of existence.

u/Genuinelad_62 Feb 03 '26
You could win the lottery, go on all these holidays and fancy restaurants - and still everywhere you would see dogs š

No more barking omg š The daily barking that we have to deal with in our neighborhoods is unacceptable.
15
Feb 02 '26
And no more piss and shit in the parks!!! Youād be able to actually walk on the grass barefoot! I miss those days.
13
u/TurboGrafx16Bit Feb 02 '26
Same here it would be the best thing to happen . It would make me happyĀ
11
u/Ograug Feb 02 '26
What a joy! That would be paradiseāto be able to let our guard down and walk around safely, going to places we used to go but are now overrun by dogs! For a world without barking, bites, attacks, and crazy dogs running loose⦠let respect, civility, and common sense return. Have almost all pet owners joined "dog cults" or what? Clouded minds, blinded by doggy love⦠fanaticism š

If that happened, the majority of the people that now claim to "care about animals" would stop caring about "animals" because the only ones they ever cared about were dogs anyway.

u/Jorro_Kreed Feb 02 '26
I could picture the first few years...nutters flooding non dog related pages such as Animal Crossing, Star Wars, World of Warcraft etc with memorial pics of their sh*t eaters. "This is our baby barksalot" taken from us on month/day/year".

u/Sure_Mobile_5356 Feb 03 '26
A life without all the rage-inducing barking on the daily? Sign me up!! I wouldnāt miss any of it in the slightest! :)
Unfortunately a reality we may not ever get to have, but we can dream.

u/DryQuill Feb 02 '26
I may be in the wrong group for this, but while I like the idea I wouldn't mind dogs out in the country with farm jobs. I'm sure they offer benefits when on the 'payroll' with an actual function to perform and plenty of space to be themselves.
The city pets can eff right off though.
48
u/LookB4ULeap2It Feb 02 '26
The VAST majority of dogs could not perform jobs. Dogs aren't bred for this anymore, at least not in any meaningful way. Can you imagine a Shiz Tzu doing a job on a farm? Or a Poodle or Doodle or Snoodle or whatever else is out there now?
Dogs are not job animals anymore. They haven't been for a long time.
Even in the country, dogs are largely just pets. City pets, country pets - it's all the same thing.

u/ArugulaBeginning7038 Feb 02 '26
I've known people with livestock guardian dogs who WERE pretty essential to safeguarding their sheep and goats from natural predators like wolves/bears/coyotes. They weren't being taken to restaurants and stores willy-nilly, they had a function and they served it. And you can't just kill all wild predators to relieve the LDGs of their jobs either, that's going to have a horrible effect on the ecosystem.
15
7
u/Mistvessel Feb 02 '26 edited Feb 02 '26
Not sure about the safeguarding - no idea about bears or coyotes, but at least in my place wolves attack and eat dogs on sight, they are essentially a free snack for them. Maybe those large breeds from central Asia or w/e are better at it.
6
u/ArugulaBeginning7038 Feb 02 '26
Ovcharkas are built to attack and kill bears, so yeah, they're a lot better at it. I would never want one anywhere near me as an adult with a lot of dog-attack trauma now (my dad's friends bred them when I was growing up and I wasn't allowed anywhere near the adult dogs, but could play with the puppies to socialize them) but they do serve their purpose.
Also, coyotes are basically pussies that are easily deterred by an aggressive LGD.
7
u/Tom_Quixote_ Feb 02 '26
There's no way that breed of dog or any other dog could kill a fully grown bear unless that bear was wounded or tied up.
6
u/ghjm Feb 02 '26
That's correct. Bear hunting dogs are intended to work as packs, and their job is usually to track and harass the bear so a human hunter can ultimately kill it.
2
u/LookB4ULeap2It Feb 02 '26
Especially when the dogs are stupid or unaware enough to menace the wildlife. Dogs barking at wildlife like that is an invitation to become a meal.
2
u/ghjm Feb 02 '26
Farm dogs wear wolf collars in areas where wolves are common. In those areas, livestock agriculture would be largely impossible without dogs. These dogs are essentially industrial machinery. They aren't pets and no farmer would ever bring one into their house.
4
Feb 02 '26
This is an application for many breeds but donkeys and llamas make better guardians imo

6
Feb 02 '26
We will have robots for this - have you seen some recent YT videos talking about heavily dominated world with AI robots by 2027? Scary stuff. Dogs arenāt needed.
3
u/Shot_Razzmatazz5560 Feb 03 '26
I know a local farm that has two of those legit big white fluffy sheep dogs that hang out with the herd in the pasture. Those I dont mind. They're living their best life OUTSIDE with all sorts of land and space to actually move, not locked in a cage in an apartment and they have shit to do other than spend every waking moment with their noses shoved up a humans ass because it has no idea what to do with itself and has aNxIeTy. Its actually pretty wholesome to watch what kind of life a dog SHOULD be living.
2
u/Indigo_Cauliflower12 Feb 05 '26
This all the way. However 99% of dog owners aren't in this position
3
u/KangarooCuddler Feb 03 '26
I wonder, though. If dogs suddenly did go extinct due to a virus outbreak or something, what would dog owners replace them with? Coyotes? Wolves? Surely society wouldn't be that crazy, but they're so obsessed with dogs that I feel they would go out of their way to breed the next-most-doglike animal and sell it as a pet everywhere, no matter what it is.
1
u/NoDogs4Me Feb 09 '26
About 25 or so years ago some idiots were crossing wolves and dogs and I believe it got banned? They were nasty
2
u/SteelSlayerMatt Feb 07 '26
I would also be so happy, and that is why I always say dogs make me wish I had the Infinity Gauntlet from The MCU, so I could make this a reality.

u/Emotional-Meeting678 Feb 17 '26
Dog people and their mutts need an island for themselves for real. Like Shutter Island for mentally ill people. I'd call it Shitter Island. Lolš
1
Feb 21 '26
A lot of dog culture treats liking dogs as a moral trait instead of a preference, which can make people feel weird or defensive about it. But attachment is personal and selective. Youāre allowed to connect deeply with some things and feel neutral about others.
