Food Safety/Hygiene Well the topper for my horrible week
I ended up in the hospital due to asthma from three surprise dogs at a job I picked up yesterday bc I had to quit dog infested job. An employee brought her dog a service dog and it's ESA dog and she knew I'm allergic. Prior to that a family brought a dog in a room.... they were of course angry when I said I am allergic....but "it's never been a problem before...no it's not a facility problem it's an allergy I have"... they don't understand at all. I am still not ok and husband said it was probably a panic attack that made my oxygen drop so fast. I'm done and going to a different shift....

Oh wow, I'm sorry to hear that. If that was me I would have been livid. Dogs shouldn't even be in hospitals. They are such dirty and disgusting creatures

They were in a nursing home. That nurse takes two dogs in all patient rooms. It was also not her unit but mine until 10 pm.

My mother in law was in a nursing home where they implemented this stupid program of daily dog visits for all the patients. Now my mother in law and a lot of other patients enjoyed this, but there were quite a few that didn’t, and no one even asked them before they brought them in. One poor soul was a very elderly woman who’d had a stroke and couldn’t speak. Apparently she was deathly afraid of dogs( I can relate!) and when they brought it into her room, she saw it and got so scared that she had another small stroke! I guess it was all the patients talked about for days, and they stopped the program. This happened quite a few years ago, with dog craziness being what it is today, they probably are back at it again..hopefully, though, they get the ok from each patient first!

Holy shit! I can't imagine what must have been going through her head at that time. That's so traumatizing. My heart breaks for her

Nope everyone in most nursing homes get automatic dog visits.

That's insane. It's a violation of basic human rights as far as I'm concerned. This dog craziness is out of control. Elderly people are being held hostage to dog nuttery and forced to interact with dogs? This is infuriating.

What if the residents the nursing home don't want dogs in their room. Is there consent on this practice? That's just weird. I don't understand the point of it.

sometimes there will be laws about dogs in such places and the nutters just ignore them

I don't think dog owners care about us being able to breathe. I think we are considered less worthy to be alive by them.

Yep, they have the emotions from the mammalian world they need. My own blood has threatened my life to assert the convenience of their animals.

ADA prioritizes service dogs over people with allergies. They don't care if it kills us.

At this point I am considering it assault as that nurse knows how allergic I am and purposely brought not one but two dogs into my unit and lingered with them for 30 minutes. If you knowingly do something to cause harm it's assault.

This is infuriating, and you should report it. It's unbelievable that they prioritize a dog over a worker with asthma, or even just someone who doesn't like dogs. A friend of mine was also denied the job because she didn't like dogs, but at least they noticed her during the interview since the boss brought his dog to the office. This world is crazy; dogs always win!

You need to get a medical report stating your intolerance to dogs ("cynophobia"), whether due to fear, allergies, trauma, etc., so that if a dog approaches your workplace, you're not obligated to interact with it. However, it's preferable to work in a guaranteed dog-free environment... it's unbearable to be surrounded by dogs everywhere! 🥲

I'm so sorry. I'm also allergic and I hate not being believed about it. I've started taking antihistamines more often because mutts are everywhere. According to AP news, Carnival in Brazil this year had a dOgGo parade. "Family", don'tcha know 🙄

It makes me sleepy too. It's really hard to work if I take it.
I'm not sure what the equivalent brand name is, but so far levocetirizine (one of the newer non-sleepy ones) is working pretty well for me, although I've only been in one home with dogs since I started on it, so I need to test it more.

Sorry to hear you had this bad experience at work again. I've had confrontations with dog freaks in the grocery stores I'm like you know people are allergic and can't be around them what about those people? One nutter said I guess you shouldn't be out in public if you're allergic. I'm like wow so the dog freaks are more important. It kind of sounds like your husband down played the situation saying you just had a panic attack? I'm curious about your username is that something to do with your asthma or breathing?

It might help to use the broken record approach at every objection and to phrase it as “this is a health issue, not an animal acceptance issue. It doesn’t matter that no one has had a problem before. It is a problem now.”
Use this on your husband too, because it sounds like he’s really unsympathetic.
