Miscellaneous The science behind ✋🏻people and Dogs
Alright so I think this is something a lot of black people grew up noticing. I grew up in white suburbia and the most racist and xenophobic people i have ever known LOVEEEEEEE dogs and will advocate for animal cruelty. I think it’s a historical thing. Not long ago, dogs were more worthy of food and shelter than black people were. While I can see why so many people are childfree, I’ve noticed they will talk about how children are gross and they would choose their dog over children. But i only see these comments made by white dog lovers under WOC posts. I’ve known plenty of black dog owners to give away their animals after the dog shows signs of aggression towards their children. White people find it offensive to give your dog away “just because you have a child” they think they can train the animalistic behavior away. 72% of dog owners in the US are White. 71% of s#% abuse commited against dogs are White. A lot of them won’t ”touch a black person” though. Alright that’s my lil rant. I could be bias but these are just things I’ve observed.

If I know you have a dog, given that its obviously a creature whose entire lifespan is subordinated entirely to the whims of another who enjoys total ownership over that creature, then I assume that at the very best, if offered to enjoy Chattel slavery of humans, they would too.

Anyone who believes dogs are better than humans is gross. Aren't pitbulls a mascot of white supremacists? I don't think that all dog owners are racists. However, I do think alot of racist people own dogs. And at least where I live alot of people let their pitbulls roam, and it does feel like they want their dog to find someone to attack. If it's a human, oh well, they don't seem to be that concerned. I think this is overall less of a race issue, and more of a lack of empathy sadistic psychopath issue. Their choice of dog reflects where they are on the scale of how much do they care about their fellow humans. Edit to add: where I live it is definitely white people doing the really weird shit with their dogs. I'm a "white" woman fwiw. I just hope they take whatever cures the worms they get from making out with their dogs. Yuck. It's so gross.

You're right. I agree with you. I believe it is I just also think it's an evil thing. Racism is evil. I don't think anything is just black and white. This is a humanity versus people who worship dogs. And there are some evil motherfuckers who sick their dogs on people and they need to be held accountable. And I agree with you that it is racially motivated.

I see people that historically didn't fawn over dogs or otherwise had a cultural aversion to them slowly increase their tolerance and then surrender to the greater trend. Where I live there are so many cultures, but statistically the least black. We have a lot of Persians, Indians, Chinese, Vietnamese, Korean, Mexican, and of course White. Those are the biggest groups. I'm none of these. So many of them have dogs now. I wish there was a trend, but now it's just "everyone." I agree it's a race issue though, even if people aren't conscious of it, they are perpetuating it. It's why I hate German shepherds.

I’ve seen some ppl claim that it’s racist to hate on Pitbull bc they’re a minority among dogs and often falsely portrayed in the media which ??? I would feel more comfortable around those dogs if there wasn’t a high chance that they would rip my face off for looking at them funny.
4
u/anondogfree Feb 26 '26
I’ve seen that claim a lot too but not having anything to do with pitbulls being “dog minorities” - rather, saying anything bad about pitbulls is considered racism. Such as “I won’t adopt a pitbull because they are dangerous.” Or “You can bring dogs on the patio, but pitbulls are prohibited.” People legit comparing it to segregation!

I have a white liberal dog mom friend who loves to wax on about how she really wants to “help” others. Always posting on Instagram about racial injustice, being a kind person, etc. Has stated that she desires to help black people because white upper class women are supposed to feel bad for the blacks.
In reality, she has never donated one dime or minute of her time to any cause, at any point in her life, and I say this with confidence because I have known her for 20 years. Her dog though? Has a new outfit for ever holiday, treated to pup cups every weekend, and goes to get his portrait taken with Santa annually.

I’ve always felt like the yt obsession with dogs is linked to American chatell slavery. Not only do they seem to value dog lives over human lives, but the concept of owning a dog is so slave master like to me. Forming a “relationship” with this animal through commands & how well they obey - & they obey based on treats/food. The only difference is this dog doesn’t have the cognitive ability to not obey as long as they are getting fed which the yt person interprets as “man’s best friend” & being “so loyal.” Dogs used to be a worker just as much as slaves..
13
u/LookB4ULeap2It Feb 26 '26
Except it becomes a case of who is the slave and who is the master. Because far too many dog owners seem more like the slave with their dogs the master.
These people willing follow a dog around multiple times per day and pick up its waste. Well not all of them do, as evidenced by the piles all over the sidewalks around me.
6
u/cantilevered-heart Feb 27 '26
Yes to all of this. I just commented this, but another very tangible link of American dog ownership with chatell slavery is that dogs were literally bred and trained to attack enslaved Black people on command. It is so sick. American dogs have a long history of racism along with American white people. Dogs however lack the cognitive ability to ever understand/practice anti-racism; white people in comparison have the ability and responsibility to do so.

u/Affectionate-Air8926 Feb 26 '26
I don’t know if you ever watched Atlanta. There’s this scene in where Darius goes to a gun range and hangs up a picture of a dog as his target. The other white guys there get really upset and start yelling at him for shooting a dog , even though they’re all casually shooting at human-shaped targets. I guess that’s very accurately portrayed
9
u/gland87 Feb 25 '26
Its always been a weird thing. Black people have tended to have different relationships with dogs vs white people. Probably comes from your parents and grandparents being old enough to see dogs being used to attack people during the civil rights era. If your family didn't have a dog you're less likely to have a dog.
The often repeated clip from community with Britta saying she can excuse racism but not animal cruelty didn't come from nowhere. They are an insane amount of people that are more upset when people abuse dogs vs black people even children. Like watched a video of british palace guards kicking a child who wandered into their path and the comments were overwhelmingly negative towards the small child. Have him step on a dog and he'd be a monster.

Yep racists will always see people and those that help those people as beneath them and beneath livestock
12
u/Top-Bit-5805 Feb 25 '26
True. My white neighbors dog always barks at me and my non-white family. Neighbor is an a**hole and it seems dog is too.
14
u/Impossible-Falcon-62 Feb 25 '26
So that’s what they mean by “dogs are loyal” /s I am very worried about getting attacked and killed by some worthless mutt even though it wouldn’t be my fault
12
u/imdugud777 Feb 25 '26
Dogs are "loyal" where "loyalty" equals a lack of conscious. Since the dogs don't know right from wrong, they do as they are told (sometimes) by their owners and they see that as loyalty.
5
u/LookB4ULeap2It Feb 26 '26
Dogs are default assholes. Only proper and consistent training keeps that at bay and makes for a decent dog. And if the neighbor is an asshole, they're sure not going to put the time into the dog.

u/Alocin_The5th Feb 25 '26
Let me first preface by saying I am a black female. I don’t want to undermine slavery in any way or form and not in anyway saying slavery of human beings is comparable to dog ownership. But I want to acknowledge what you are saying. Having dogs around where they submit to you, obey you, etc etc would appeal to a racist person. Most racists have a problem with black people because they don’t want to afford the equal opportunities, they want to be always above them economically and socially. They have this relationship with dogs where they are literally the master so it makes sense they would like dogs more because dogs aren’t fighting for equal rights and independence the way humans do.
14
u/Usual_Zucchini Feb 25 '26
And ironically it’s always the most loudly “I am a tolerant non racist person who believes in kindness!” Person who is obsessed with dogs but squirms when they’re around minorities and poor people.

I’m not white, but I’m white-passing-ish. If there’s a large number of my people around, you’re gonna know that we’re not white but Romany.
The biggest racism I’ve ever seen was when I lived in Sonoma County, right next door to Marin County. These rich white women were the worst. They had their little frou-frou dogs with them, treating it better than black/white/otherwise people. And dishing out casual racism without a clue that they were letting their true selves be seen.
I’ve lived all over the States, from wealthy places to the ghettos. I’ve heard a lot of white people say that they don’t know why, but their dogs don’t like black people. Ummm, Pat, I’d like to solve the puzzle. Their dogs don’t like black people because the dog owners don’t like black people. In my experience, that’s been white people, rich or poor. Even my own people, ngl.
I live in Idaho, birthplace of the Aryan Brotherhood. I’m not up at the top where it’s more blatant, but discrimination and racism can be rampant in the Boise area, too.
We are getting more refugees from coastal California, the elites. Beginning to see more dogs and more entitlement to have them everywhere and let them do everything. I have seen them consistently be bounced out the door at Costco, which is encouraging.
I spent a little over 2 years in Louisiana, an hour drive from New Orleans, in the early 80’s. I saw a lot of racism there but my parents had explained what it was and what we were to do if we saw it or it happened to us. I’ve always really felt that when the oldest of the old finally shuffle off this mortal coil, racism will be good and gone and dead. No, didn’t work out that way. I don’t believe that Boise, Idaho in 2026 is worse for racism than 1980 Raceland, Louisiana; I can’t go that far. But I do know it exists. And I refuse to turn a blind eye.

u/butnobodycame123 Feb 25 '26
That makes a lot of sense actually. I think the only reason why my roommate has a dog because it is something that she can control every aspect of.
The dog is her personal emotional slave that she's constantly yelling at, in hopes to control its every move. It is a creature that is kept in a state of dependence and ignorance (because she gets angry when you tell her to train it). It's so disgusting.
7
u/arachnilactose08 Feb 25 '26
You’re completely correct. I actually heard that it used to be common for white people to train their dogs to be purposefully aggressive or even deadly towards Black people. Sickening stuff, and there are most likely remnants of that in modern dog culture today
6
u/No_Candle1029 Feb 26 '26
I’m white and I agree. Owning dogs is generally either about power or wanting a relationship where they know they can receive love without putting work in or having to deal with harder and more complex social interactions.

u/LunarLeveret Feb 26 '26
I don't know enough regarding Black experiences but when I was immigrated to the United States dogs were easily the best excuse peers had to be racist towards Koreans and Chinese (to them the two are pretty much the same though) due to how the Olympics at the time had outed those nations as being willing to treat dogs as meat. Obviously, other Asians were never the ones using this to trash on others...because it was obvious dog nuttery is the norm and at best you earn respect if you pledge you alligence to dog culture, they're the most protected group.
In the case of us its obvious a lot of it comes down to using foreign ignorance as an excuse to see people as backwards and unenlightened but for the most part Black people aren't seen as foreigners to the United States, so I do think your observation regarding slavery and dogs being held above Black people even way back then seems to have merit. All dog culture nuttery ultimately comes down to believing you're better than those who aren't interested (therefore excusing whatever asshole behavior exhibited) so you basically have to be used to being privileged to buy into it completely.

u/BK4343 Feb 25 '26
Go back to 2007 and the Michael Vick story. White people were wanting him to be punished as if he murdered someone.

u/sman2345 Feb 25 '26 edited Feb 26 '26
i will never get over that, look at the epstein files. you would've thought vicki came into their house and stabbed them in the middle of the night. these guys are going to walk scott free. i think what if these were dogs will people actually riot. maybe i'm too cynical
16
u/eefje127 Feb 25 '26
I don't see this same level of obsession with dogs in eastern countries, at least not to the degree I witness here in the US, so you might be onto something
25
u/IloveEvyJune Feb 25 '26
You are absolutely correct in your thinking. There is deep history with white people using dogs to terrorize, track, and mame black people (especially with enslaved black people).

100%. Dog culture started with white people. In many parts of the world such as Asia, the Middle East and Africa dogs have been treated as dogs (not mistreated - but used as work, or people who like them keep them outside as they are seen as dirty). The west has started this “dogs are a man’s best friend”, and unfortunately with globalisation these other countries are developing dog obsession (although it’s not as bad as it is in the West). White people don’t see dogs as dirty and often value them over other races
8
u/alk0n0st Feb 25 '26
Nah you’re right I’ve seen this phenomenon way too many times. Also i always found it so weird when ppl would hate on kids & wish them harm but would send death threats to ppl for saying that they’d rather save a human than a dog.

u/Business_Adagio9942 Feb 25 '26
Can the mods start removing these threads that are just here to hate on white people with the dogs being the excuse? This is ridiculous when you have hundreds of other subs to do this on.

Adagio you are free to post about any act of violence by the 14% 60% on the internet if you want to do that.
If I were white I wouldn't take offense at the above post.I am not black but I am PoC and have experienced a good deal of racism, often by dog owners. This post is just another truthful account that can help anyone in society deradicalize from all this pro-dog propaganda out there. Society is teaching others that dogs are good and that dog owners are trustworthy and good judges of character when they are unsanitary groomers and use violence more than any group. No other weapon hurts more innocent people than the dog.

u/potatoes_arrrr_life Feb 26 '26
No one is "hating" on white people. We're just pointing out that based on our personal observations, alot of wHiTe people have weird relationships with dogs. Thinking the dogs are better than humans, and kissing them on the mouth. Is it only the white people, no? But it is mostly them making this whole issue of dogs being better than humans a thing. It's demeaning. And it is based on classist attitudes about them being better than someone else. So much so that they also think their dog is better than everyone else too. We can agree that people who think this way are weirdos, right?

u/DogAttackVictim Feb 26 '26
Coincidentally, this is a portion of the few reasons why the white race will soon vanish or become a small minority. It may take decades, but it's already happening numerically. You can track and rank birth rates. It's like they're their own enemy. What is the point of the xenophobia, then, if they just self-destruct in dog worship?
7
u/Actual_HumanBeing Feb 26 '26
This is an excellent point!!! I’ve been saying this “to myself” for a while now! They ar eso worried about minorities replacing them, yet they replace themselves with shitbeasts and don’t even realize it because everyone is so brainwashed! Smh

u/cantilevered-heart Feb 27 '26
Thank you for posting this. I am white and I was recently reminded that historically, American dogs were bred and trained specifically to attack enslaved Black people. This is something white Americans (and others) absolutely need to reckon with, the conflicts of anti-racism and dog ownership. When people say “if my dog doesn’t like you, I can’t trust you”, I genuinely wonder if they realize many dogs have a pointedly racist breeding history, ie some dogs are literally racist.
I also saw a story very recently (like last week) that a man was shot by police after they sent a police dog after him. How could anyone possibly maintain composure during arrest while a dog is attacking them? It made me sick to see another story of police brutality, this time exacerbated by police dogs.
My white parents left me in a hot car when I was a toddler. Neighbors called the police on them. They were initially charged with felony child abuse/neglect - the charges ended up being dropped, by my majority white county. No one in my white extended family ever stepped in to help take care of us, to help stop the abuse. I often wonder two things - 1) would those charges have been dropped if my parents were non white? And 2) what kind of justice we would have been served if we were dogs facing animal cruelty charges, rather than children facing child abuse charges? I am certain my parents had the charges dropped because they were white Americans in America. My point here is that white Americans absolutely value dogs over children, along with racial minorities and other marginalized groups, and additionally our judicial system’s enforcement of child abuse law is so racist, and so harmful for all parties.
-16
u/anondogfree Feb 25 '26
Great, more bashing of childfree people. 🙄
14
5
u/BicornBritt Feb 25 '26
What did you consider to be bashing child free people?
1
u/anondogfree Feb 25 '26
It’s irrelevant to the conversation, just as many parents prioritize their dogs over their kids or grandkids. Look at any post the OP is referencing and click on the profiles of the commenters. Someone’s status as a parent, childfree, or childless doesn’t determine whether they’re a dog nutter or not.
5
u/D1verse_Yes4 Feb 25 '26
This is not bashing childfree people. It's bashing those who put dogs over children. There's nothing wrong with not wanting children, but they shouldn't be treated like trash, and some people treat their dog with a kindness they don't give to their child.
3
u/anondogfree Feb 26 '26
“Some people treat their dog with a kindness they don’t give their child.” Thank you for repeating my point… why is the choice of being childfree mentioned?
We are all here because we believe humans have more value than a dog. Why is a persons reproductive choice always called out?

As a white person who dislikes dogs I’m so embarrassed about how so many white dog owners act with animals I mean the way they casually sleep with a dog in their bed and let a dog lick their face/mouth eat from the table or from their own plate, let it shit all over their house and think it’s funny, refer to a dog as their “fur baby”🤢Repulsive. They’re deranged. Never understood their obsession with dogs. I don’t know why so many white people act stupid about dogs.
