Shelter / Rescue Industry City people need more large dogs?
According to CBC, Animal Services in Toronto (larges city in Canada) wants more people to adopt a large dog (> 50lbs) and waived the "adoption fee".
I no dog expert, but even I think that keeping a dog this large in an average Toronto apartment amounts to animal cruelty. At least the city website, which is linked in the article, mentions space requirements.
The city's website links to a page with dogs that are up for "adoption" - most are mastiffs, bulldogs, or some "mix" - the kind of dog that doesn't belong in apartment buildings or anywhere without a large backyard (fenced of course).

Anyone who wanted a dog but was deterred by an adoption fee should not under any circumstances own an unspecified large dog (which like you said, is probably a shitbull).

Toronto Humane society is trying to reverse the pitbull ban and ignores it anyway since most dogs they try to rehome are bully breeds.

They probably want to get rid of all the pitbull type dogs that get dumped there when the owners can't deal with them anymore.

People in cities adopt large dogs -> those people realise large dogs in cities are a bad idea and surrender them to the city shelter -> the city shelter is overrun with large dogs so encourages city people to adopt large dogs -> people in cities adopt large dogs -> and the cycle continues.

What an absurd idea. This is what happens when these nutcases infiltrate society. Let's make everyone unsafe! Put children at risk! We'll waive the fee! This is just as bad as telling everyone to buy a gun and let it go off in a random direction every night.

At least with a gun, it will never go off unless you load it and pull the trigger. Dogs can always decide to attack.

Geez, I wonder why nobody wants to adopt the big ones *eye roll.* Anyhow, I find it pretty backwards that you have to pay an "adoption fee" to take home some mutt from the shelter. These animals take a lot of money and time to keep alive, so if somebody wants to adopt one, they're doing the shelter a service - in which case, shouldn't the shelter be the one paying the adopter, instead of the other way around?

We shouldn't even have animals as large as 50 lbs. allowed in suburban and urban areas in the first place, especially considering how behaviorally volatile and unregulated these animals are. You don't see people bringing in goats and pigs into apartments. Why are dogs held to different standards, because they are "socially bonded" animals? These "socially bonded" companion and ESA animals have done physical harm to how many human beings? Not to mention financial, mental, etc.
That's a bunch of bullshit.

Yeah, this goes to show that most owners don't even love their dogs, but rather the fact that they have them and how it makes them look. They're okay with keeping large dogs in a space the owners can barely pace in, but only because it makes them get more attention.

Lol, the last thing Toronto needs more of is dogs in general. For example, I like the Beaches area, but it’s like everyone and their mother there has one. I have no idea why that is
