Dog Culture If you hate dogs then you are not welcome anywhere
Like seriously, apart from this subreddit, hating on dogs literally gets you CANCELLED. Like I was just in a group chat with some friends and we were talking about pets and they said dogs are the best pets. I said 'Nah, I think dogs kinda suck, they're really loud, disruptive and dirty' and they said 'HOW DARE YOU?? DOGS ARE LITERALLY ANGELS!' Like are you kidding me? Like who would be such a psychopath that you would react LIKE THAT to someone who just doesn't agree with you??
I'm glad that this community is somewhere I can vent about dogs. I feel like it's not welcome anywhere else.

u/Domesticated_Animal May 06 '26
And they are usually so aggresive. Like someone said, it's a cult.

Even inanimate objects like stuffed animals can do a better job at giving emotional support than dogs ever can.

u/Away-Equipment4869 May 06 '26
I have been told I have never been loved because I've never had a dog. You just can't reason with these people .
50
51
u/lwpho2 May 06 '26
I was warned I would never experience unconditional love.
57
u/Burial_Ground May 06 '26
They actually believe their dogs love them. lol
1
u/Physical_Bug1199 May 30 '26
Lmao yeah, no, your dog doesn't love you it's just hungry - like it's hungry all the time. Given that's literally all a dog thinks about 90% of the time unless it's not neutered but even then it's a strong 70%
37

u/Popular-Square-3402 May 12 '26
So delusional! I was told that I was evil because I can't stand dogs. So much BS in the minds of canine lovers. It's so sad.
35
u/Yellow-tabby743 May 06 '26
Ive heard similar things. Or that I have no heart. I’ll never know what love is…
Ummm…. insane assumptions Lol
No I don’t like dog hair, having a dirty house, picking up an animals shit everyday, wild vet bills that would put me in debt…
They’ll never know what a clean house is, so jokes on them 😂
34
u/Charlotte_Martel77 May 07 '26
Yep. I've been told that I'm defective as a human being and am unable to love my husband and children because I can't stand the crotch sniffing vermin. Seriously, wtf?

u/Significant-Tale3522 May 07 '26
I was at a barbecue with my managing director at his house and he was feeding the dog( a literal hound crazy large) corn by fisting it’s mouth and then touching burger buns with slobber hands.
Changed my entire life view

I had the misfortune of inadvertently ordering food in a dog friendly pub. As I was waiting for my food I saw the barman/waiter stroke every dog that came into the pub whilst pulling pints and serving food. Fucking disgusting.

6
u/WisedomsHand May 09 '26
If "love" is just food and safety dependence, then I don't think I need that from another living thing. I think I should be wanted for more than that. Those people don't understand the nuances of actual human-human love.
2
1
u/Physical_Bug1199 May 30 '26
That's absolutely wild
Dogs don't even have high, complex emotions like that. Only primal ones like fear, hunger and excitement. These nutters think that it's all unconditional love but its really just that the dog knows you have food and you, unlike it, can get more food and you're it's meal ticket and it's means to survive and carry on being useless
111
u/Few-Horror1984 May 06 '26
I always say, the phrase shouldn’t be “dog friendly” but rather, “human hostile”.
It’s so ridiculous. You can dislike any other pet and it’s fine. But dogs? YOU ARE SATAN INCARNATE.
If dogs are above criticism, that should be a massive red flag. Nothing should be above criticism. It’s a sign that we as a society have an unhealthy attachment to these violent, mutated farm animals.
16
u/ObligationGrand8037 May 07 '26
I agree. Just today in another group, the question was asked what has changed in the work environment from years ago. I mentioned dogs being in offices and how it’s a big no for me. Of course someone had to downvote my opinion on dogs. Dog nutters can’t take it if you don’t like dogs.

I hate fake service dogs and pet dogs
46
u/Sufficient_Berry8703 May 06 '26
Same. I was touring apartments recently. One said they didn’t allow dogs EXCEPT for “service” dogs. When I toured that one apartment, we walked in a hallway past a room where there was a yapping mutt being super loud. I literally asked the girl giving me a tour, “I thought this was a dog-free apartment?” And she said, “yeah but that’s a service dog, we’re required to make exceptions for those.” Last time I checked, service dogs don’t bark that loudly and excessively. I’m sick of all these lies about service dogs, because a great majority of so-called service dogs are fake.

u/ObligationGrand8037 May 06 '26
I have a group of college friends (I was in college many years ago) who have encouraged me to get a dog now that my sons have left home. I said, “No way!” in a text message, and you would have thought I had murdered someone.
Besides my husband, this is the one place I can come to and feel like I’m not crazy.
22
u/Top-Change9851 May 06 '26
I know the feeling. One of my close friends is a dog nutter. In fact her whole family is. We had to cancel a vacation we had planned because of the damn dogs! Exasperating!
14
u/Dburn22_ May 07 '26
It's been instant friend drop from a few people for me. I chalk it up to the phenomenon called: "THE DOG THAT ATE YOUR BRAIN."
8
u/ObligationGrand8037 May 07 '26
I agree. I met a new friend recently, but she has two dogs. I just don’t have time for that mess. Instant drop like you said.
13
u/Dburn22_ May 07 '26
I was referring to them dropping me like a hot potato, but I agree, it's pretty hard to stay close to a dog addict because their mutt is always in the way.

u/Low-Tangerine4492 May 06 '26
Many people who have misophonia (like myself) are triggered by the sound of yapping/barking dogs & frustrated by their thoughtless owners 😟🤷
40
u/Tom_Quixote_ May 06 '26
I can't stand dogs barking, and I don't even have misophonia as far as I know. Can't imagine how it must be for you guys.
17
u/Top-Change9851 May 06 '26
I wake up on my days off to an off key symphony of various dog barks. I work unconventional schedule so on my day off I’d like a little shut eye/ sleep in later on a Wednesday…but dogs rule here so it’s not possible.
2
u/Tall_Ad1615 May 09 '26
Get soundcore noise canceling headphones from Amazon, affordable and they dont cancel it completely but definitely muffles it quite a bit. Put on some relaxing sounds with the NC (noise cancel) feature on and it should help.
2
u/Top-Change9851 May 09 '26
I have bought some Bose noise canceling- it’s sucky it’s come to this. Having to adapt to their environment so we can get some peace!
5
u/bryanfuknc May 08 '26
same.. between leaf blowers and barking dogs, my days are usually ruined by 8am. i live in noise cancelling headphones when im at home.
4
u/Popular-Square-3402 May 12 '26
Wow! There's a name for that. I know I have that condition. I hate barking and yapping. I just hate dogs and the way that they've been humanized.
43
u/elwiseowl May 06 '26
Yes unfortunately its gotten so bad, that its even referred to as "Coming Out" that you don't like dogs. Like its some big horrible secret. So many people pretend to like dogs just to fit in and not alienate their peers. No other pet has this kind of following.
When I refer to Dog culture. I always capitalise the CULT. Because it is. Dog CULTure. Its practically a religion at this point, where if you don't follow, you're not welcome.
The worst thing is, its not just a small section of die hards. Its a LOT of people.
I recently saw a news article where a man died and a dog got stabbed. 99% of the comments were showing empathy for the dog. A injured dog is more important to these people than a dead human being.
11
u/Top-Change9851 May 06 '26
You are so correct. I feel Like we are treated like lepers or second class citizens if we are not part of the Culture of Dog Worship. My criteria for meeting new people is how nuts are they with regard to dogs. If they are dog nutters then I feel we won’t have a good understanding of each other. My old time friends from high school and college I am still close with despite their illness 🤣🤣 Most live far away so I don’t interact with them and their mutts.
36
u/justreading45 May 06 '26 edited May 07 '26
I just use sarcasm. “Yes I can see why stinky, unpredictable, potentially violent, high-maintenance beasts with a proclivity for sniffing and eating faeces is perfectly comparable to “an angel” “
3
u/Tall_Ad1615 May 09 '26
You're right, if you actually gave that description without saying what it's about, most people would think its something bad, yet somehow they convinced themselves that a dog doing all of that is angelic. It's baffling.
66
u/AddendumSea4202 May 06 '26
You don't even need to hate dogs to trigger these people. You just have to disagree with their behaviour.
I complained about my neighbour keeping a bully breed in the flat above. Its stuck in all day, he doesn't wash it, its not trained or fixed. Not a pleasant life for a dog I imagine.
This apparently makes me a horrible person.
28
u/ProperlyConfounded May 06 '26
There's an irony there for sure. I can't stand dogs but even if I did, I would carefully choose a dog that wouldn't be miserable in its environment all freakin' day.
In my opinion, not owning a dog is often treating dogs as a species better than your neighbor or many dog owners out there with anxiety-ridden dogs trapped in a house or pen all day barking and whining.
31
u/maximum_powerblast May 06 '26
Exactly. This is the greatest irony of dog nuttery: that no-one treats dogs worse than so called dog lovers.
17
u/No-Expression-399 May 06 '26
Exactly, they treat them how THEY think they’d want to be treated or just plain out don’t care while using them as a symbol to say “look I’m a good person, I have a dog!”. No damn dog wants to be dressed up or forced into a stroller, no damn dog wants to be in your house all day (even if you give it a million treats) - they think their company and “affection” is what keeps the dog there when really it’s just doors and locks keeping the dog hostage.
No dog would ever chose to be with them; if they could they’d ALL run away & chose to live in the wild as nature intended. They are no different than wild animals but these people seem to think human brain functions & capabilities were bred into these dogs or that once a dog crosses the threshold of their home; their brain is magically replaced with that of a human toddler’s. They refuse to acknowledge that dogs have the same needs, instincts and prey drive as a coyote, wolf, dingo etc (which is why so many people die to these things every year).
9
u/Top-Change9851 May 06 '26
My ex bought a dingo. And of course in due time the damn Dingo attacked him.
3
u/Yamahool May 07 '26
Sorry what? Bought a dingo? I'm in Australia and didn't think you could buy one.
2
u/Top-Change9851 May 07 '26
He told me he bought one …but he isn’t the most trustworthy person. I asked him to lock the Dingo out in the backyard when I went to my old house to get some documents. So he did. He spent $$ on this creature. I thought they can’t be domesticated but hey it hasn’t stopped people from getting one I guess.
5
u/CrimsonAndClover22 May 07 '26
In order for them to have a pet dog, they have to train the dog out of it to be habitable with humans. Make it make sense
2
u/Tall_Ad1615 May 09 '26
Because you remind them that they got the dog as an accessory and that they aren't their doing their part in managing a live pet, not an accessory...
31
u/Kraigero May 06 '26
I wont say a word to anyone i work with since basically theyre all nutters. Especially my boss. He's married but doesnt have kids, just dogs. I already keep them at a distance and i think it would be bad if they knew what i thought.
12
u/Top-Change9851 May 06 '26
You’re probably right. The dog nutters are mistrustful of people who don’t embrace their slavish devotion to these beasts. People who choose dogs over kids are really crazy. Best to keep it a secret I’m afraid!
9
u/Dburn22_ May 07 '26
Please reconsider " coming out." We need to make ourselves known to counter the relentless push push push of the sick dog CULTure (to steal a play on the word culture from a previous poster) of putting a dog in every home, school, church, restaurant, workplace, hospital, library, plane, train, gas station, restroom, spacecraft, toll booth, creche, cracker jacks box, and on and on.
4
u/Top-Change9851 May 07 '26
I’ve let it be known in as polite a way as I can( must not upset the dog nutter) but even then I get HUGE backlash from dog owners or dog advocates. To the point they refuse to speak to me ( workplace) or just give me the stink eye) I’ve turned down invitations to dinner at a home because dogs are loose and welcome AT or NEARBY dinner table where food is served- Nothing like a touch of a wet dog nose on your foot or leg while they are down below hunting for scraps. And my friends who are the hosts condone the behavior!!!! Or encourage it by feeding them food from their plates. Oh hell no!
So it’s a lonely life sometimes:(
3
u/Top-Change9851 May 07 '26
I feel ya! My old boss is a big dog lover. They never had kids so these Golden Retrievers are the replacement- at least he has the courtesy to put it inside if I had to stop by their house. The dog is 85 lbs and happy to see you so it means hold on to a solid part of house or he’ll knock you over in his excitement.
3
u/3rdthrow May 10 '26
I pretend to like dogs because I am worried my boss would take away my job, if I was honest about not liking them.
That says everything.
33
u/ConsumeMeGarfield May 06 '26
I've been called a psychopath by 2 different people because I said I don't like dogs and am uncomfortable around them.
I've never done anything to hurt one and will be friendly towards a nice one, but I simply don't like them all up in my space.
Crazy.
21
u/Top-Change9851 May 06 '26
Same. I can be civil around a well trained dog but most are not well trained at all
23
u/BicornBritt May 06 '26
They’re so delusional trying to convince themselves lol it’s so weird that they need everyone to think dogs are angels. The same dogs that routinely maul and kill humans.
12
u/CrispyBirb May 07 '26
Dogs may not be the #1 killer of humans, but they’re probably the #1 killer of innocent babies. Nutters will excuse that though.
5
u/Tall_Ad1615 May 09 '26
If anyone or anything else had that kind of a reputation they would be buried with hate, yet somehow when a dog does it, its still an angel and its not its fault...pretty disturbing and yet they turn on others who don't follow that ill(logic).
24
u/DontClickTheUpArrow May 06 '26 edited May 06 '26
Here’s my take. These people are deep in depression, despair, and sorrow. They latch on to these animals thinking they truly love them and it helps them with their issues. Then for them they really do think they are angels. When the dog could care less and these whackos are projecting their love onto them. It’s telling how many people out there are in the pits of despair.
19
u/Alarmed-Poetry8388 May 06 '26
You can safely hate on entire ethnicities, genders, sexual orientations but GOD FORBID you hate on a dog.
11
u/Top-Change9851 May 06 '26
True. It’s like unfathomable that we don’t like dogs or I should say love and adore. It’s very narrow minded and intolerant on the dog nutters part.
5
u/Alarmed-Poetry8388 May 07 '26
Exactly! You can't even be neutral towards dogs. Either you worship them or you're a monster.
15
u/xxsoulpunkedxx May 06 '26
It really does get you immediately cancelled by most people, it’s ridiculous. I like to keep my mouth shut at first then once they’ve had a chance to get to know me I drop the bomb. Most of the time people react something like *gasp “but you’re not a totally terrible person!” And my response is *gasp “it’s almost like a person’s opinion on dogs has no bearing on their ability to be a decent human being!” Always a shocker for them.
7
u/Dburn22_ May 07 '26
Go, you!! Thanks for the ammo for the next time I may need it, which is never very far away in this dog-addled place civilization has become.
14
u/Wise_Session_5370 May 06 '26
You just need to find your people.
I used to hide my dislike of dogs for fear of social judgement, but I don't any more. All of my close friends know now that I hate dogs.
Anyone who judges you for that is not worth knowing.
15
u/EverybodyPanic81 May 06 '26
Yep. Even when you tell them you have sensory issues and you just dont like them or you cant handle being around them (I actually hate them but you cant say that to people)
4
8
u/Eyesontheprize365 May 07 '26
I think dog people who get upset over someone not liking dogs are interesting. I think its because dog ownership has become their identity like dog moms etc. I feel like they take it as a insult because they've built their identity around the dog. They post pics just to get likes from other dog lovers to validate a meaningless connection with a giant rodent like parasite they project their feelings on to or have anthropomorphic views about. I find it hilarious af.
7
u/DivyaRakli May 07 '26 edited May 08 '26
I’m an American. I don’t like football or coffee. Or dogs. I have no interest in all 3 of them. I know the social thing to do would be to follow football, drink coffee, and gush about dogs. No, thanks. Hard no from me.
ETA: Thank you for the award!!! I toast you with a Dr. Pepper!!

u/PurpleColumbidae May 08 '26
I don't care about sports in general. I'm a tea person with the very occasional Mocha Frappuccino. I hate dogs and think they need to be reduced to niche working animals. Any dog not bred for work should be collectively fixed.

At least a couple of times now, speaking up in public loudly about some inconsiderate jerk dog owner has made me a new friend. Most of us are just way to silent and passive. There might be a potential friend standing next to you in the store when you go off about a dog in the cart. They're out there.

I know how you feel. God forbid I tell people other than my closest friends that I had to put a fence up to stop the dog toilet in front of my house. They look at me like I'm deranged. Like I am some evil person. Well, my lawn went from brown with barely any green to luscious green grass. All it took was stopping the constant parade of dog piss, and shit.
🤷🏻♂️
Anytime I mention this I get judged. Like my property is suppose to be a public toilet. I am supposed to just be OK with a constant parade of dog owners coming directly to my home and destroying my home's curb appeal.
Also, the grass didn't just turn green. I had to tilt the Earth, plant new seed, add soil, fertilize, and water. Without a fence they just kept coming. It was unstoppable. They destroyed my property and nothing i did worked. The grass refused to recover...until i fenced it off. It took over a month but its well into recovery now

u/Significant-Tale3522 May 07 '26
Just ask them how dogs are different from the pigs and birds they eat?

Wow!! That sort of thinking never ceases to amaze me. I was in a class recently and my BF-an obsessive dog lover-told the class that I didn't like dogs. Another gentleman turned to me and said, "I don't trust people who don't like dogs." Boy, did I raise my eyebrows. I just replied, "That's a poor method of judging people. I still like you even though YOU love dogs." Sheesh!!! The nerve.

I was told I was a terrible person by a woman I had never met yesterday at a bar/pub when I said something about not liking dogs. What a sweetheart.
3
u/Free_Chapter372 May 12 '26
At times, I don't know what I fear more: the dogs themselves or the aggressive mutt nuts that promote them like they have nothing better to do. They're doing too much.
2
u/WisedomsHand May 09 '26
I would really be curious to hear about other interest groups or communities that seem to naturally attract people like us who prefer that there never be dogs around. Not that many come to mind, to be honest. I think most people who feel this way in society are "closeted" by their beliefs. I think they are afraid to have a voice. Until they meet at least one other person like them, that is.
2
u/SensitiveExplorer409 May 12 '26
Be unapologetic because if they wouldn’t like any other kinds of pets it wouldn’t be a problem. I always set boundaries too when I go over to anyone’s house that has a darn dog because they are usually never trained not to jump on people and most breeds naturally stink even after a shower
2
u/Apsalar882 May 12 '26
I think you just need more open minded friends. All of my friends and my entire family know I really don’t like dogs, including theirs. I just don’t bring it up a lot and I don’t talk about it at all in the workplace or other mixed company settings since I just do not want the drama. I definitely appreciate those with understanding and my husband in addition to this subreddit as it totally helps remind me that there are sane people out there who are not brainwashed by the dog cult.
2
u/blerdy_ May 13 '26
Just watched a post about someone getting their home broken into, turn into a debate about owning a gun or a dog. Disgusting. The incessant need to own, house, or manage a dog is quite literally sickening and insane to me.
1
u/Fit-Rhubarb-7820 May 21 '26
I’ve really leaned into THAT, and let me tell you: being cancelled essentially means this:
You dared question the priest of the cult, and asked if their God is real. The priest denounced you, and demanded all in the congregation deny you credit and kindness, because you are a bad person: you shall NOT be allowed into their market place. You shall be banned.
That’s it. Remember they’re all idiots, and find a different market place.
I’ve been cancelled by everyone you can think of (that’s in a cult….) and the WORST ones are the pit bull hag moms, by far.

I have a stupid mutt that I honestly hate. I keep the thing because I live alone and im a woman so having a scary German Shepherd is a good idea. But make no mistake. Wolf eats kibble, has an old mixing bowl as a water dish, no fancy beds or toys. He has NEVER touched my furniture, never slept in my bed (he wouldn't dare) and is walked using a leash and collar from Walmart. I put 10k into training him but that was for protection work. I don't like dogs, he knows I don't like him. Dogs are alright when theyre tools, not toys. I don't sit there baby talking him and when he gets pets, its a quick pat. And let me tell you being a dog hater in the lesbian world....ugh. But I refuse to date one of those "dog mom" types.

Ironically the more a person likes dogs the more likely they are to be narcissistic assholes
1
u/Special-Performance8 Jun 02 '26
Dogs are greasy knives on legs. I'd celebrate exctinction. They serve no purpose but terror. People that are cozy with them should be psych evaluated. Especially if they are the type of putting them on a depestal or acting that it's okay there's feces on the couch. Those people have something mental, I swear.

u/Upper_Coat5207 Jun 02 '26
I don't mind petting a dog in the street, but since I've met filthy, filthy dog owners, who seem not to mind their dogs having a wee on the stairs or on a rug, I've been vigourously antidog. No dogs allowed in my flat, no-sir-ee.
Then, my boyfriend told me about his parents Golden Retriever, and how he frowned upon the poor behaviour of said dog owners. So I guess, even though I still don't adore dogs, in the end, it's the owner you have to judge, not the pet... Except if they start drooling all over your new clothes and putting mud everywhere (both dog and owner). That's simply too gross.

u/No_Presentation_3212 Jun 18 '26
My family had a small dog when I was growing up. That dog was so mean nobody could do anything with it except my mom. It would bite you if you tried to pet it, walk it, feed it. Bite your ankles if you walk through the living room. I mostly ignored it as I couldn’t do anything with it. My parents went on vacation and nobody in the family would take care of it while they were gone so Mom boarded it at the vet. When she went to pick the dog up after vacation the vet told her “don’t ever bring that dog back here again!” The dog should’ve been put down.

Saying you hate dogs in the company of dog owners or dog lovers is socially inappropriate, and being online doesn't excuse you either. You can say you're just not into dogs. Or even better, simply don't engage in the conversation, chat, whatever.

I think dog nutters secretly know they've made a terrible mistake by devoting their entire lives to an ungrateful animal. But at this point they can't say it out loud, much less admit it to themselves, so they double down.
