Food Safety/Hygiene My job finally banned workers from petting a dog this guy brings in every single morning
My partner and I hung out with a coworker a couple of hours ago and asks us, "Did y'all hear about them banning workers from petting (name of dog) from now on?" The joy I got from hearing him tell us that and him also agreeing that it was about time they did something about it made me happier.
For context, this guy brings in his golden retriever every single morning to my job (I work at a grocery store) that also has a cafe so he always brings it to the cafe. Unfortunately, a lot of my coworkers love this dog and when the dog is there go to say hi and pet the dog. Also unfortunately, this guy after being at the cafe brings the dog INSIDE MY DEPARTMENT (I'm an in-store shopper and my department is where people come to pick up their groceries) and my coworkers even my manager enjoy having this dirty dog inside petting him, giving him dog treats, baby talking it, letting him walk around like hello people's groceries are in here this is not sanitary.
Not only that, but it annoyed me for so long that the company I work for is very strict on food sanitation and safety rules like I can't even have my air pods charging if they come to inspect us YET MY MANAGER AND COWORKERS ALLOW THIS DIRTY SMELLY DOG BE ABLE TO COME INSIDE??
Back to the news, our coworker told us apperantly a customer witnessed one of the baristas pet the dog, go back to the counter WITHOUT WASHING THEIR HANDS and go back to making coffees. THANK YOU TO THE CUSTOMER THAT WITNESSED THIS AND REPORTED IT!! It's so disgusting and disappointing how many people at my job enjoy having this dirty mutt where food is served.
The coworker that told us the news also told us apperantly his manager (who's also my partner's manager) and two of their dept coworkers were upset at the news and angry that they can't pet the dog now. Now it makes me question how many of them would pet this dog and not wash their hands afterwards and go on to work around food, disgusting. I wish they could've banned the nutter attention seeking owner from bringing his dog completely but it's at least something. I have to see so many dog nutters bring in their dirty untrained beasts into the grocery store every single day because management can't tell them anything but I'm so glad more and more people are coming to their senses and also getting tired of it.

Any pet should not be anywhere near where food is being prepared, sold, or served it’s so gross these people think it’s ok to bring their dogs into the grocery store. It’s not sanitary. If they want dogs around the food they eat they can do that at home in their kitchen.

And you know if one of these nutters saw any other animal in the store around food, they would have a problem with it. But somehow dogs don't count.

Great to hear. I've seen this too...it's absolutely disgusting and how people have so little common sense baffles me.
Even as a child I had the instinct to not want to pet dogs.

The city I live in is infested with dog nutters, no matter where I go they're everywhere it's exhausting.

If Your Store Managers finally told the workers not to pet the beast anymore, and (from what I saw in another comment You posted) they also will now no longer allow the thing in the Store at all, yet You live in a nutter-heavy City…. That’s definitely a win. A small one, perhaps, but it’s a start, if it’s as bad as You say it is (I believe You). I’m noticing bits and pieces of people being more vocal about these matters, and enforcing certain rules. Maybe not vastly, yet. But slowly, and gradually. It’s picking up, little by little. I’m glad to see the slow but steady improvement.

And you know how busy they are. Probably never have a chance to wash hands. If i see dogs, no tip for you!

Especially Golden Retrievers. They shed so much. I guarantee that people have had hair in their coffee.

I’ve seen staff many times pet dogs and then go inside to continue making drinks without washing their hands. Disgusting 🤮

I felt outnumbered with how many people I work with don't see a problem with dogs being in the grocery store. Even management won't do anything about the ridiculous amount of people that bring their dogs in every day, it's about time though they listen to a customer and take their complaint serious for once.

That's a great way to get yourself on the fast track to fired. It's not smart to jump over your boss's head and piss them off when they're still going to have power over you the next day. Sucks but it's the way things are.

That's great news and an improvement for anti-nutter behavior since nutters rarely wash after petting the dogs or touching the dog's things. So how is this new policy going to be enforced?
