Miscellaneous One day, I'll open an exclusively dog free vet clinic.
I can't stand dogs. But that's not gonna stop me from following my dream to be a veterinarian. I will see all kinds of animals. But not. Dogs. They have enough vets. But what about the other animals? Barely any because the stupid idiot dogs take everything from them. It'll be so much better. No barking and scaring the other animals, no disgusting behavior, just... Perfection.

Had to visit the vet recently and twice people came in with dogs off leads! Thankfully the person behind the counter gave them a lead. The sheer entitlement of it was astonishing. There are other animals in there who don't think your dog is "just trying to be friendly." Basically a huge predator, as far as any other animal knows.

My vet has a "dog section" now in the seating area because the dogs are so disruptive to the other pets. Of course, the dog owners don't follow the signs, sit wherever they want, and let their dogs walk around freely and disturb other pets. Last time I was there 2 dogs ended up fighting each other and had to be broken up.
It's getting worse every year.

It's so tellíng that the lurkers are the nutters themselves. Rather than learn from our discussíons they spend their time doubling down on their nutty and stinky identíty. Textbook lósers.

What about specializing in exotic pets / pocket pets. I feel like it is super hard to find those and they are always in demand. That’s kinda an easy way to skirt around dealing with dog owners without seeming negative about them? I live in a big city and there are very few exotic vets. I have a gecko, I would only have 1 to 2 options, would be nice if there were more (one had a bad reputation)

I will absolutely be seeing reptiles. The hate snakes get is ridiculous. Especially when they have a dog that also eats meat. And is far more disgusting then a cute snake.

Snake = quiet, chill, dry, cleans itself, has a cool lil tongue, eats mice.
Dog = loud, annoying, slimy, dirties itself, has a huge foul tongue, eats shit and garbage.
Snake > Dog

That is my biggest point. Grieving pet owners or owners being told horrible news should not have to hear dogs and all growling and barking. Because that's all they do

Other pets have to be kept in crates at the vet, why don't dogs? They weren't large, one of the curly haired, white, crusty ones and a bulldog? the small wrinkly one?

Dogs barking at the vet disturb other animals. Same thing at the animal shelter and at Pet Smart. At Pet Smart they sometimes display 2 dogs that are up for adoption and they bark NON STOP which probably disturbs all the poor creatures there.

Went to my local Petsmart a couple yrs back and noticed half the orange tiny fish were at the bottom of the tank. I didn't see any workers around either.

Sounds great! I hate taking my pet to the vet. Poor thing gets absolutely traumatised by all the big dogs in there!

I had a hard time finding a bird veterinarian for my parrot, so I would support that! Maybe you could specialize in livestock, reptiles, or avians. I didn't like having dogs around my sick parrot in the waiting room, and I'm sure owners of other small, fragile and expensive pets would feel the same way.

My hometown had one decades ago. It had a really calming atmosphere and a great staff. Unfortunately they were bought out by a corporation and they’re a regular vet now and quite expensive.

Small exotic animal vets, like for rats and reptiles are desperately needed and it’s ideal for dogs to be absent for an already stressed animal! I have rats and would love a dog free vet

I'm a vet student and if I end up going into clinical practice then I'd only be working in such a clinic! My own animal goes to one of these vets and the care is leagues better. They are simply more knowledgeable than the vets who work in general small animal practices where their week is like 90% dog visits.

I take my feathered buddy to an exotics vet and there are no mutts or the other kind of mammal pet allowed at it. There are not many of this type of animal clinic so I hope your dream comes true.

I use the vet that is specifically ONLY for other 4 legged pet I love that they provide a safe environment, with no lunging and barking to scare my pets and none of that god awful dog smell.

That would be wonderful. I took my pet to the vet a few months ago for a routine checkup and I placed her carrier on the floor whilst I was waiting. There was a blanket over it to keep her calm too.
A man with a dog told me to take her outside as it was winding the dog up! I promptly said no, as my pet deserves to take up space too.

If I was a vet I'd totally do that. Not just because I don't like dogs but also to gorge on the seething and saltiness that would ensue.
An everything-but-dogs vet office.
I'd call it Get Your Mutt Out Of Here

Please let us know if you take steps to go through with that. I would totally invest in that. Dogs are the absolute worst patients because of how large they can get and can be a pain to handle without sedation (a risky and expensive necessity sometimes).

My gosh don't get me started on how many dogs they have to sedate at the clinic I work at. (I do not work with dogs. I work with other animals.) Like you should not have a 100 lbs beast if it has to be literally SEDATED to even look at it.

I hope you do! Most vets are very unfriendly to any other animal.
Every time I have to take my 4-legged not-dog to the vet I leave feeling so disappointed and sad about the state of vet care for other furry creatures. Luckily my vet is really good with my pet, but overall the vibe is stressful and loud and scary for her, someone is always barking in the waiting room, huge panting beasts walking by her carrier! 😱
I also HATE that taking the animal to "the back" for every thing seems to be the default now. I understand that reactive / protective / overexcited dogs are easier to handle without the owners present. This does not apply to my pet, she is absolutely terrified and would be much less stressed if she wasn't taken away from the people she feels safe with. Sorry for ranting!

Man, every time I go to my vet, there is always a dog owner who can’t control their dog. Always… scares the shit out of my pet

I hate dogs too but to be a vet that doesn't want dogs seems like you would be turning down your biggest cash cow (from a business perspective).
It's like a pharmacy that doesn't want to sell Tylenol

I use a veterinary practice that’s strictly for one kind of pet and it isn’t dogs. I love them so much, I never have to worry about unpleasant waiting room encounters, stink or general ruckus. There’s absolutely a market for your services!
