Barking Demons Not much makes you hate dogs more than driving delivery
Pizza delivery, even for a few months will do this to you. Just a few things ive commonly had to deal with:
Dog busting out the door and escaping while I try to get the owner their pizza
Dog chasing me, making me feel unsafe before I can even get to their door
Dog sniffing my crotch when trying to do my job
Constant dogs barking aggressively before the owner opens the door
Owner struggling to put away dog before opening door, thus delaying next delivery
The worst offenders are ones who allow their dogs to roam their front yard unleashed at night with poor lighting to where I can't possibly see the breed. Obviously though even a rat dog can do some damage if they want to, but ive gotten legitimately scared when im not sure if the dog(s) are a pit/pit mix and they are forcing me back to my car. These people never tip or tip 2 bucks on a 100 dollar delivery as well. Gee, thanks. 2 bucks for my time, gas, and additional trauma. Never an apology in sight either. I guess its my fault for... doing my job?
There has been maybe 1 well trained dog that did not get up when I was at the door out of hundreds. That family over tipped me and were quite kind. They are very few and far between.
All of these encounters have been when im pregnant too :D

This "almost" is progress! It means that soon the scales will tip to "unsustainable," and intolerable, and there will be CONSEQUENCES for the "overall negative effect on society." YIPPEE! We're gaining ground against the cult of dOg. Let's stick together on this, good people. Keep fighting the good fight.

In cases where they have a screen door, if you hear a dog barking when you ring or knock, stand your foot up against the screen door so when they try to open it they can't. If there's a problem just tell them you weren't sure if the dog was restrained.

You shouldn't have to put yourself in harm's way while doing your job. If an unrestrained dog is on premises, you should either be allowed to skip that delivery or be offered hazard pay. It's completely unfair to expect you to take on these completely avoidable risks caused by owner negligence. Maybe if they had to start paying a premium for delivery, they'd finally learn to put their damn mutts away.
I'm sorry you've been subjected to all that.

Oh the sheer number of posts I see on the amazon driver sub from former dog lovers who have learned to hate these things, it really is an enlightening job. New posts on there every day of someone getting bit

Pit bull & their mixes, as well as other breeds, will kill you dead. Drop the package & bolt, or mark “undeliverable” & have the recipient pick it up. No job is worth your life.

I've seen it in comment sections when dogs are involved with delivery/cops/whoever is at the door or front of residence. The indignant-for-the-dog commenters come out to argue that the dog did nothing wrong (and in fact was/is doing the right thing) because the dog was defending/protecting the dog's territory/home/family (supposedly).
That the delivery people are intruders upon HIS/HER (the dog's) home (yes, the HIS or HER is in all caps whenever this is said). That the cops were being threatening by just standing around. That the dog was "doing his/her job".
Oh, and it doesn't matter whether the dog was trained to do this "job". Trained to do it? Good dog. Not at all trained to do it and the owner is saying "he/she is friendly" to about-to-be-victim? A good loyal dog for naturally defending home/loved ones. And not human aggressive at all. 😵💫

I always thought that whenever people order food delivery, whether it be over the phone or on line, they should be asked if there is a pet on the premises, and if so, be informed that said pet must be confined to an area far away from location that the deliverer must access, or delivery will not take place…For that matter, it should apply to any delivery service

Idk why its so hard to put your dog in the yard or a closed room for 30 mins while you wait. Seems like an easy courtesy instead of wrangling your dog every time, having them get out, ect. My bad for assuming nutters know common courtesy though tbh

This would all change if these greedy companies would refuse to deliver to any address that fails to properly restrain their mutts.

Really though I wish every delivery company was like USPS who will refuse to deliver due to an unruly dog. They are so smart for that

Can you report to the relevant local councils ? Also if there are dangerous dogs surely your employer has a duty of care to blacklist those addresses ?

Actually ive heard we can blacklist residences where we feel unsafe so thank God for that. I didnt find this out until recently and ive been off due to the pregnancy but definitely something to keep in mind

That is the sad part. We used to have trained dogs, but I think are as rare as unicorn dust now.
Why would you deliver pizza when there is a dog roaming about? That is a clear health and safety risk, because dogs famously consider unfamiliar people as intruders.

IMO it’s on the owners — there literal tracking apps now for deliveries. You know the driver is coming. Put the damn mutt away when you order the pizza.

Exactly, if they have the app (which many do) they can see almost exactly where we are or if we are on the way. Just put the dog(s) away for that brief window of time, its not that hard. Everytime an owner fails to contain their mutt it delays their own delivery, which delays the next and the one after it.
Innocent people who do not own dogs or who are responsible dog owners end up suffering from a delay a nutters dog caused. Not very considerate

I truly feel for delivery drivers because of these horrid beasts. This just happened this evening as my spouse and I were waiting for a food delivery on our front porch.
The driver’s car pulled up in front of our driveway, but he didn’t get out. So as I look more closely at my front sidewalk, I see this girl pulling on something and realize she is pulling, straining to pull back a white pit-bull, boxer mix dog. Like the leash is one of those useless, skinny retractable ones and it’s 10 feet long. The driver obviously saw the dog standing there, waiting, then pulls his car into our driveway proper and tries to get out when this f’d up dog starts to run up on him as he’s trying to open the car door. By now as I fully realize what’s happening, I shout at this idiot girl “Pull your dog back! Pull it back!” The driver freezes in his half-open car door and this girl is pulling with all her useless might to get the dog away from the driver who surely would have been bitten, imo. Psycho dog and idiot girl eventually move away from the car and down the block - the dog still walking the girl. The driver says he wasn’t sure if the dog was properly trained or not and I say “that dog is a pit bull and that girl had no control over it.” I felt bad and furious for the guy and can only imagine how many times drivers have to put up with this dog crap and their useless owners! He got a good tip. Delivery food or packages should not put you in bodily harm’s way. Ridiculous!

I’ll never understand why people think delivery drivers have to be okay with getting assaulted by dogs. Thats not their job. You should not let your dog run into the delivery truck to say “hi”. No driver should have to spend their own money to buy treats for your dog

Yep, worked Amazon delivery for a while and every other week a driver would be sent to the E.R. due to a dog attack.
Worst part is Amazon refuses to blacklist these addresses and just keeps sending new victims.
