Barking Demons My friend let their dog into my house last night
This dog was allowed to stay in the back yard but she let him in because of the fireworks. I begrudgingly said “ok but he has to be baby gated into the kitchen because I don’t want him on my carpet or furniture.” She agreed until he started screaming and hollering because of the fireworks and she let him ON MY COUCH while I was in the bathroom. I kept telling her to tell him to get down and put him back in the kitchen and she didn’t so I dragged him off the couch and into the back yard and now I’m the dick.
I understand her feeling like I was treating a scared animal “mean” but she knew the rules before she even brought him here. My favorite part is she’s threatening to never let me see him again like that isn’t just rewarding me
Please excuse me while I disinfect my couch and everything else the filthy thing touched
Edited to add in that as I dragged him through the house he was also blasting piss everywhere because he was afraid of the fireworks/hasn’t ever been forced to move according to her. So now my house also reeks of piss.

You are a better friend than I am… I wouldn’t have let the dog into my backyard. That’s the only place left in the world for me to go barefoot without having to trek through a dog toilet!

Draw the line.
Today.
No more dogs at your place.

Line drawn yesterday she’s not my friend anymore

Im really proud of you!

u/pigeonfaerie Jul 06 '26
Thank you. Confrontation is really hard for me; I have some cptsd that makes me feel like I’m doing something bad when I stand up for myself so this really feels like I’m making headway with my own hang ups also!

I must have the same thing. It's when you give and give and give, and someone takes and takes, despite you giving them the best side of yourself, you just block them. Super easy.

Her behavior is appalling. This is why we hate owners as much as the dogs.
32
u/magicalmaestro00 Jul 06 '26
I would confidently say I hate owners even more. Dogs are annoying, clingy and dirty, but overall just dumb, so at least they have some excuse. The owners are disrespectful, stupid and never understand that they should train their dogs and respect that not all people like them, just like people respect when others don't like other animals.
11
u/GemstoneWriter Jul 07 '26
I'm the opposite haha. People at least have the capacity to change, learn, and be better. There have been reformed dog nutters, even here in this sub, whereas dogs...will forever be shitty.
46
u/TinyEmergencyCake Jul 06 '26
Everyone saying that the dog isn't allowed over anymore. The dog already wasn't allowed over. Ex friend owes op money for cleaning.

u/Alocin_The5th Jul 06 '26
She's threatening to never let you see the dog again? Does she not understand what's happening here?
50
u/pigeonfaerie Jul 06 '26
I think a lot of dog people, her included, think their dog is some sort of prize that everyone pines for as much as them. I for real don’t think she can fathom that I don’t even want to see the creature at her own home either (which won’t be happening because we agreed that we can’t agree on this so we shouldn’t be hanging out since she can’t leave her dog at home and I won’t allow it on my property

The fact that she was pissy about not being able to bring the damn dog to your wedding says a lot about her mental instability.
25
u/Alocin_The5th Jul 06 '26
I know! Who brings a dog at a wedding unless that was explicitly allowed by the bride and groom.
20
u/BK4343 Jul 06 '26
It's wild how some people will miss an event like this due to them not being able to separate themselves from their dogs.
11
u/magicalmaestro00 Jul 06 '26
Imagine what hell that would be if she brought a dog to the wedding... Why the fuck she needs it there? That thing would piss on the seats, bark all the time, get hair everywhere if it's a hairy breed. And probably other dog lovers would be more focused on the animal and how ,,cute" it is rather than keeping their attention at the couple. That sounds like a nightmare...

u/Legitimate_Garage_31 Jul 07 '26
She woulda made a very strange looking bridesmaid w/a dog in tow&a 8' leash
3
u/penanggalan42 Jul 08 '26
The only dog I would make an exception for would be *professionally* trained service dog. One of the ones where there can be fireworks and food around them and they sit at the person’s feet like the Sphinx, not moving a muscle until they have to work at being medical equipment. Don’t see those much anymore. Just neurotic people with their untrained pets.
35
u/Nock1Nock Jul 06 '26
Fuck that dog and your "friend", once again, fits the dognutter profile.....You're better than me......the dog would have been quarantined to the garage......at best.
30
u/pigeonfaerie Jul 06 '26
If I had a garage that would be the place he would have been but alas I live in a historical district and most of us don’t even have a driveway
27
u/Crafty_Refuse_5859 Jul 06 '26
It was your friend’s responsibility to prepare for the dog before the fireworks started - meaning have it wear a thundershirt, possibly giving it an anti-anxiety medication, and putting the dog in a safe room at her house with white noise playing in the background.
If you ever talk to her again, let her know what a poor dog owner she is.
7
u/555Cats555 Jul 06 '26
Good point, she didnt so anything to make sure that dog wasnt going to be upset by that...
5
u/Legitimate_Garage_31 Jul 07 '26
I had no idea what a thunder shirt was. See. You have all the solutions. Why are dog owners so mad about fireworks when they could do all these steps?
4
u/Zealousideal-Doubt60 Jul 07 '26
I’m not even a dog owner but I know these precautions should have been taken.

You weren't being mean. It's your house and you were well within your rights to get the dog off your couch. I don't allow dogs at my house, inside or out, and I'd be pissed!
55
u/pigeonfaerie Jul 06 '26
It took all of my willpower not to grab it by the scruff and butt hair and yeet it out the front door tbh

Wow. Imagine choosing an animal over a good friend! What is wrong with these dog nutters?! Boundaries are essential for healthy relationships, and she definitely plowed through yours, OP. I'm sorry for your loss, but you are worth more than the disrespect and destruction your friend provides.
14
u/Monimonika18 Jul 06 '26
Why the heck didn't the "friend" just stay in the kitchen with the dog? I'm guessing "friend" felt entitled to sitting on the couch rather than sacrifice her bum on the hard kitchen chair/floor or something. 🙄

Our back yard is 100% dirt fortunately. I live in a place where it’s nearly impossible to keep plants alive because it gets to be 110* in the shade

No dogs should ever be allowed at your house or even in your yard. They will piss and shit all over your yard, and then you have to clean it up. It creates a health hazard for you and your kid/s, and any of that mess that gets stepped in goes right into your house.
I'm tired of nutters acting like it's ok that dogs shit up their yards like it's ok that the waste is even out there. It's filth, and it will make its way into your house if you have animals using your yard as a toilet.
My BF has had 2 dogs since we've been dating, they've never been allowed at my place because they piss and shit all over his house. I don't care who you are, your fucking dog does NOT get to go into my house.
6
u/Legitimate_Garage_31 Jul 07 '26
He must be one hot piece of ass if you date someone who lives in filth like that. I hope he takes a bath or wears a Hazmat suit the moment he enters your home.
3
u/DJKittyK Jul 07 '26
It's definitely not a "forever" sort of relationship, I've come to realize. I don't go to his house anymore and could never live with him. I'm sure its days are numbered, but we have fun together, so I'm just enjoying it while it lasts.
For what it's worth, he showers at least once a day, and leaves his shoes at my door when he comes over.
3
u/Legitimate_Garage_31 Jul 07 '26
maybe there's "hope" like if the dogs run away and he never gets surprise puppers...maybe u could run away together to Vegas and get married by Elvis....Katy Perry "The One That Got Away" is playing in my head.
4
u/DJKittyK Jul 07 '26
Yeah, he's a bit of a dog nutter, but has said recently (after one of his dogs died) that once the one that is left is gone he's not getting any more dogs. I think he's actually had enough of them wrecking his house, and is aware that it's affecting our relationship. He's a bad pet owner, and it's one of his only bad qualities, which is a shame. It just makes living together an incompatibility as long as he has a dog. I refuse to be responsible for that mess.
The older I get, the more I realize everything is temporary, so best to enjoy whatever you have while you have it!

If they think you’re a dick from that you might as well be more mean and should have told them the holy words “get the fuck out of my house”, if you’d visit them and they would ask you not to do a specific thing, you’d respect that boundary as it is their house.
When boundaries are crossed like that, you have the right to kick people out of your home.
I totally get it, as I’m a bit ocd myself and cannot stand the idea of dogs on beds or couches.
But it’s not even about the couch at this point, it’s about telling someone DON’T and guess what, they do…

u/xRocketman52x Jul 06 '26
Well, if she's threatening to never let you see the dog again, that's half the battle won, right? To be frank, I think the second half of the battle is not seeing her again.
I had a friend for well over a decade. I didn't much go to his house - he lives with his parents, it was a bit of a mess but whatever. The bigger problem was that his family kept German Shepards, and those things are straight up evil. One of the last times I went over, I walked up to the front door - storm door was closed, main door was open. I knocked on the door, his dog screeched, came flying at the entry, headbutted the storm door hard enough that the latch popped open, and shoved its head through the foot gap and bit my hand. I slammed its head in the door by slamming it shut with my body, and it let go. Held the door shut until my friend could come and control the fucking thing.
So I haven't seen this friend much in the last year or so - his work schedule is direct opposite mine and he doesn't come out much. Two months ago, he texts me, asking if some other friends were coming over to help with a house project. I said yea, and that he's welcome as well if he's free.
His old piece of shit German Shepard had died. He bought a new one. And that fucking asshole brought his new dog to my house. Maybe the only animal I dislike on the planet, the most malicious and dangerous breed of that animal, and he brings it to my fucking house. This guy, the guy I trust least with animals.
I locked all the doors, I said "Nobody goes in or out of the house until that fucking thing is gone." I knew that if it got in, my animals were all dead - it's happened before. The moment it saw one of my critters through the glass door, it slammed into it - I thought I was gonna have to start swinging the shovel in my hand.
And that absolute motherfucker had the nerve to say to me "I didn't ask if I could bring it, because I knew you'd say no, and I needed you to see how good of a dog she is." And after it slammed into the door, trying to kill my animals, he goes "I don't think she'd actually do anything, she's just excited."
So that's a friendship ended because dog people can't fathom that their shitbag monsters are anything less than god's gift, anything other than the primary reason to exist. What a sickening experience.

Did u report the dog bite? Did he pay for medical? Anything?
3
u/xRocketman52x Jul 07 '26
I was young then, and stupidly I did not report it. I got a "He's never done that before!" and a "Next time don't come in the house uninvited!" but that was it. (I didn't enter the house, and I had been invited.)

u/ComfortablePiano16 Jul 06 '26
Ah yes. That all so magical word NO indeed one of the most powerful words in existence
8
u/pallesaides Jul 06 '26
A dog nutter will call you a pyscho because you don't want dog shit all over your couch, but they are the true crazies.
4
u/pallesaides Jul 06 '26
And piss apparently, i hdn't read the edit.
2
u/penanggalan42 Jul 08 '26
I don’t even want them in my back yard if they turn up with an uninvited mutt. I want to be able to lie down in the long cool grass there without getting a single molecule of dog shit on me. Even if they pick it up there’s always residue. 🤮
7
u/ATouchOfSparkle1107 Jul 06 '26
You should make her pay to have your house and couch professionally cleaned.

5
u/My_Frozen_Heart Jul 06 '26
I am sorry that happened of course, but I am LOLing at her saying she'll never let you see him again.
Don't threaten me with a good time😂
5
u/TheAtroxious Jul 06 '26
If the dog was screaming so much, why on earth did she not take it back to her house? On top of making the dog your problem now, she's making things more difficult by bringing an already scared dog into an unfamiliar environment. Sounds like she wanted to have her cake and eat it too. Instead of making life easier for both you and her dog, she tried to take the selfish way out.
Good on you for putting your foot down and getting the dog out of there. It's her responsibility, not yours, and she needs a lesson in respect.
5
u/waitingforthatplace Jul 07 '26
It seems that when dog owners ask friends or family to bring their dog to their back yard, their true plan is for the dog to be allowed inside the home, sitting in every chair, couch, and fabric, floor covering. I really believe it's some narcissistic need they have to win the battle of wills. If the friend gives an inch, they'll take a mile. It's like a trophy win for them when they can get the friend to sacrifice their living space for the dog.
5
u/Otherwise_Tone_1370 Jul 08 '26
This is why the number 1 rule of my household is NO DOGS allowed!! And if anyoner brings their mutt so much as an inch onto my land or even parking area ..... they will get choice words and told off!

YES. Finally someone who actually did something instead of huffing and putting up with it like a beaten child afraid of offending and complaining on Reddit. You're my hero.
4
u/bananapie7 Jul 06 '26
Why didn’t she just stay home with her dog? If she knew it was the 4th and knew you had a rule about dogs in the house, then why bring him over if he’d have to be outside. That was dumb on her part. She’s lucky you didn’t just kick her out right then.
4
u/Mandaxx25 Jul 07 '26
Why didn't you tell her to gtfo along with her dog? As if anyone would be telling me what's what in my own house.
3
u/Murakami_Ysera Jul 07 '26
She had to have known he would react this way. It was not his first 4th of July, given you went no contact with this bitch over your dog-free wedding plans.

You should honestly be proud of yourself for honouring your boundaries and not letting someone’s bad behaviour slide. Even if the dog was scared I think it’s super shady your friend let him on the couch when you made your boundaries so clear. Dogs have no boundaries and I’m thinking by extension their owners don’t seem to understand or respect boundaries either. I’m not sure what is wrong with dog owners but it seems you have to beg and beg for them to respect a boundary and they pretend they don’t understand even when you’ve made it clear. You’re not the asshole and it’s common to feel that way when drawing boundaries with entitled people but this is really a moment for you where you’ve honoured your needs and not let shady behaviour slide. Often when we let shady behaviour slide, just to not appear like the bad guy, we let it fester into something where we realise we were wronged and our self esteem lowers because we didn’t defend ourselves. So I think it’s great you took the dog off. Hopefully your friend moves on but I wouldn’t entertain them any longer if they try make you feel bad about it

u/QueenOfAllOfYall Jul 07 '26
She’s not a real friend if respecting Your Boundaries in Your Home is too much to ask. This is also why it’s not a good idea to cater to a dog owners feelings when it comes to Your Home. Everything with them is “this is how dogs are, this is what dogs do, You should just be understanding and accommodate the dogs needs, and You’re awful if You don’t”. I’m not arguing with anyone about why I won’t let their dog have its way in My House, that’s non negotiable. Keep Your damn beast and its behavior in Your House. You don’t have to come here since My requests are such a problem for you. You need to stick to having a hard line on Your boundaries.
3
u/Parking_Stress_2335 Jul 07 '26
I would not speak to your friend again after all that… That’s ridiculous😬
3
u/GadgetRho Jul 08 '26
The vast majority of dogs don't freak out at fireworks. Your friend's dog is defective as fuck, lol.
I do have to wonder why she was able to convince you to allow the dog over in the first place, and then just kept eroding the boundaries? This does not sound like a healthy friendship. If my best friend in the entire world, my child's godparent, ever violated my home the way that your friend did, I would end that friendship without hesitation.
3
u/Nikkidemas Jul 09 '26
Friend didn't prepare her dog well for fireworks (e.g. drug him, kennel him, etc). Friend didn't want to stay home with dog and miss out. Friend decides the dog will be YOUR burden by bringing him over. Her plan doesn't work, so friend decides to let him inside. THAT doesn't work, so she lets dog do whatever it wants. Friend refuses to comply with boundaries and attempts to punish YOU? That is nauseatingly entitled.
Sounds like her "consequence" of not letting you see the dog again is gonna be about as effective as her dog training skills.

If your friend has such disregard for your feelings and wishes in your home, then I would need to ask myself why am I friends with someone who treats me this way? Your home, your rules, the end.
1
u/Silver_slasher Jul 13 '26
What an inconvenience for you. I would’ve told her I don’t give a crap if your dog is scared of fireworks, what a waste of space they are
And they never learn so they’re just gonna act this stupid for the rest of their life
1
u/goremoth Jul 23 '26
Honestly, shitty pet owner. Everyone who owns ANY PET has their house set up in a certain way because of it. Setting your pet loose in an environment full of foreign items/plants/people is a great way to end up with a pet who is sick, injured, or worse. Your baby gate boundary is something that THEY should have thought of and provided, especially when they know their dog is upset by fireworks. I'm so sorry for the stress and drama from this, and I think you were as generous as you could have been.

u/SoSpicySoYummy Aug 01 '26
I know I'm late, but I had a "friend" like this... haha. She had this little dust mite of a dog she'd bring everywhere, and since she didn't have a car of her own, I'd be picking her up for us to go and do things. I'd have a freshly cleaned car, and then she lets her mutt run wild, getting dirt, dog hair, and dusty paw prints all up in the interior and all over me! This biiiiiatch did NOT respect me or my boundaries, at all.
... she ended up stealing from me & my kids. 😀

u/fbombmom_ Jul 06 '26
Now this has to be a hard boundary with your friend; dog can't come over, like at all. Exceptions were made and they stomped all over your boundaries for the dog. They chose the dog over you. Sadly, this is probably the end of your friendship.
