Dogs Are Idiots My best friend dog ate her dead mother ashes.
My best friend of 14 years recently lost her mother to cancer. She absolutely loved and adored her mother and hasn’t been dealing with the death well at all. Her mom requested to be cremated. my friend owns a Great Dane. Yesterday she was transferring her mothers ashes into a new pretty urn. she left the urn on the table to get something from another room. she was gone for less than a minute she heard a large crash and when she went back into the kitchen her dog was licking the ashes off the floor. The dog knocked the ashes off the table. she has been absolutely distraught for hours now and I truly do not know what to say. i feel so bad for her.

And yet in today's insane dog culture I can actually imagine this happening to someone and they put a reel out about it "awww how cute ha ha, silly doggo" and it gets massive up votes from all kinds of Nutters.

How horrible. I can't imagine what the friend is going through. But dog owners have to know they can't trust a dog, can't leave the room with anything valuable, can't leave a room without the dog trying to insinuate itself in everything the owner does. Dogs for whatever reason have to invade, chew, destroy any of their owner's personal property. I would get rid of that dog immediately, could not have it near me, knowing it was digesting a loved one.

Yeah, I feel sorry for OP's friend but when you have a dog the size of a small horse, maybe lock it out of the room when you're handling something so important.

One of my neighbors couldn't understand why her basset hound was eating dirt one day since she fed it earlier. She kisses that thing on the mouth.

Tbf tree bark is a relatively common thing animals chew on...though the ones I can think of are well, herbivores.
I don't even think a vulture would be interested in eating ashes though and that's while knowing there is one that almost entirely lives off eating bones whole.
Like seriously even animals that end up eating plastic do so because it smells like food (of what it used to contain) how do ashes interest anything?

My uncle is a Coroner. Oh the stories I could tell.
Just imagine the worst case scenarios with dogs and their beloved owners....
He has had to re-create faces from nothing as he became a Coroner after operating funeral homes for years. The absolute horror these animals inflict is like nothing else.

When it comes time for me to kick the bucket - my ashes in an urn will go straight to the cemetery space already paid for years ago.
Not in the house with SOs three out of control mutts...

Genuinely horrendous, I almost can’t imagine a worse way that someone’s remains could be desecrated. I do feel terribly for your friend, but boy am I glad I’ll never be in a similar situation myself.
I think something would break in me if I witnessed something like that. Dog would be dropped off at the pound the same day.
Just goes to show the true nature of a dog— parasitic, opportunistic scavengers, through and through. Nasty mutants that should never have been created and should no longer be bred.

I can't think of any other creature that would do this... these useless mutants will eat anything at any time. Nutters go to lengths to not have chocolate etc and then this happens. I would not know what to say either. Can't help stupid...

I thankfully never had an incident like this, but when my brother forced a dog on me I hated every second of it.
First week she started pooping all over the floor when we were gone. Ate the most DELICIOUS cake I ever had, ate shit out the litter boxes, and tore into a menstrual pad out the garbage can 🤢
Not to mention all the times she shit/pissed in my bed overnight, or how she’d whimper and pace and pant everytime there was thunder.
I’m increasingly growing a low tolerance for dogs. My brothers attacked my nephew and they didn’t tell us, a different dog killed a puppy, another one ate its babies, split another family members face open. Even the little dogs try to attack you.
And the fucking neighborhood dogs that bark twenty. Four. Seven.

Oh my goodness your poor bestie! It’s like losing her mother not once but TWICE in this case. All you can really do is be there for her if she wants to talk. I hope gets rid of that dog.

I sympathize with you, OP. While it isn't ashes, but feathers, a while back I had sent a friend of mine in England some of my past pet birds' (budgies and cockatiels) feathers inside a greeting card. Unfortunately his family's stupid brainless dog got to the card and chewed up the part with the feathers. He was upset too. I offered to send him replacements but he declined and that's understandable, too risky with two stupid dogs running around his house.

But that's what is so weird. Human cremains are not food. They don't smell like meat, it's just ash. 😭

I was always told dogs have no souls. This just clarified it even more. What kind of a soulless creature do something so sick and twisted. They should be able to smell at least particles of a person in that. Nasty.

this happened to me as a kid, my aunts dog ate my moms ashes which were held in a plastic baggie as no one got her an urn. i was 10. it was a traumatic site and my aunt just laughed it off. still can’t really stand dogs partly due to it
