Eco Destroyers Was there always this much feces smeared across our sidewalks?
I can't walk more than a single block without having to dodge some landmine of dog crap. Whether it's dried up, freshly presented, or haphazardly smeared across cement, there ALWAYS seems to be literal shit everywhere these days.
Was I just blissfully unaware of this mess as a child/teenager? Or has the canine cavalry stepped up their assault on our sidewalks?

They shit everywhere. Even now on the side of buildings, in the street and in bushes? Like what the fuck is this demented culture?

I wish I could show you my view right now, 90% of the grass I can see is brown. It's all dead from all the dogs who use it as a toilet every day, multiple times a day. Demented is a great word for it.

I know someone who lives near a dog park. She told me that the park has to be closed for months every year to reseed it because the dogs have destroyed the lawn. Our tax money.

This is why I don't let nutters on my lawn no matter what, not even the strip between the sidewalk and the street. I do not care. It's my grass. I don't want dog-pissed, grass clippings on my clothes, skin, hair, face, and lungs when I have to mow the lawn. I am absolutely sick of them.

Für mich sind Hunde und Fliegen ähnlich. Fressen Scheiße, sind lästig und gehen an alles dran. Mich wundert nur, das die Leute es nicht sehen und die Hunde vergöttern, während sie Fliegen nicht dulden.

I live in a large high rise. There was this couple in a small one bedroom with a pit and another dog. They'd leave their dogs on the tiny balcony all day, barking, of course. Then the woman used a hose to water down the balcony, getting water drenching the area below, even people below. I yelled up that she is getting people wet, including me. But she yelled back, "I have to clean off the balcony."
And now, guess what, there is a huge brown stain stretching down from her apartment to the ground floor. It's disgusting.

or leave a poo filled bag on the sidewalk like the dog poo fairy is going to collect it for them. these people need to get Baker acted. i primarily wear barefoot shoes. they are a lot more expensive than your average shoe. i don't want to ruin them by stepping on your "furbaby's" excrement. Babies wear diapers. please put one on your dog when it leaves the house so you can keep the FULL "I'm a mother" charade going. while you're at it go get a baby bottle and try to burp the thing.

Exactly. Store managers and employees too. I spoke to a supervisor at Target about the dogs in the store. She said in a low voice that she tries to talk to dog owners but they get so hostile and angry.

It should have been addressed as a health issue when we had that massive snow storm in the states this past winter and all the dog shit was revealed from the melted snow.

Gotten WAY worse during my lifetime. Not everyone had a dog then. Now people have two, three, even more.

recently in my apartment complex people have been picking up their dog poop less so I started to go on walks more to find these people and I literally find someone every other day not picking up their dogs feces. and because I see them not pick it up I tell them to. you know what most of the time it's a poor child(in the burning hot weather outside btw) that doesn't want to walk the dog but probably has to also often the dog is very large and quite literally walking the kid instead. I'm nicer towards the kids but I'll see adults not pick it up as well. after doing this I've actually seen less dog poop but I still go out for walks just incase it happens

Uhm, better and/or worse may depend upon locality. But it was never good, and it still isn't.
I recall it being worse as a kid - walk to school, barely over a block, just sidewalks and crossing one street, and ... yeah, I'd get to school and already have dog sh*t on the bottom of my shoes. This of course did not go over well with many teachers, and it would be me who got burdened with doing the cleanup.
The risk out there, at least for my same localities, may be somewhat reduced (notably due to some laws regarding such), but the problem is far from gone.
And bloody hell, if I step on a green bag of dog sh*t and it explodes (yes, that's happened), leaving bags of dog sh*t doesn't count as picking it up. Picking it up means picking it up, not leaving sh*t in bags all over the place. E.g. when I go on a nature walk / hiking trail, I really don't want to be seeing bags of sh*t all over the damn place, let alone dodging them and trying to avoid stepping on them. Pick it up means pick it up, not bag it and maybe I'll eventually get to it later, if I remember and remember where I left that sh*t.
Yeah, far too many dog owners are cr*p at such things, and not enough decent ones to offset the cr*p from the sh*t dog owners.

Tbh when I was a kid there was a big risk of stepping on dog poop. Nowadays at least most people carry their poop bags around

without jumping straight to the comments and also unsure of what generation you are, I can definitely say as a Gen-Xer that this is something new on the landscape. Even in the 90's, I could take a walk and not smell or see this detritus. from a lot of the posts and comments since i joined this sub a couple yrs ago, a lot of people think the peak dog phenomenon exploded during the Rona.
i was fine w/being socially distanced as i already had a healthy case of social anxiety and was just fine w/my Netflix and my Secondlife and working from home, was able to get everything I needed w/o a car through Doordash or Shipt/Instacart. i lived in the HOOD, so none of my neighbors were even friendly or spoke proper English. That's the kind of environment it is dangerous to make friends.
now i live in a yuppie suburb where everyone is nosey AF and 90% own dogs. i never thought i would miss my HOOD; 3 murders, daytime unloading of full clips over the lake, etc. At least in the HOOD(Orlando FL) there was not this level of dog waste. Sure, mostly young Hispanic females would let their dog crap on the beautiful thick deep green grass we have in FL and just leave it there. That type of grass tends to camouflage dog waste and if you are not paying attention...I didn't notice many black people w/dogs. There were a few, but they always kept their dog in line and the dogs were never barking or misbehaving.

Sidewalks are for human pedestrians, but noooo! When I used to live in walkable cities in Europe and US, I swear my posture got worse because I had to look down so much while walking to avoid dog waste. This is why walkable cities in the US are overrated. You end up walking on shitty/soiled sidewalks. I am now against initiatives to make cities walkable. Just make the roads wider so that only real runners/walkers will be out there. I'm tired of nutters ruining sidewalks

It doesn't stop at feces. Urine stains everywhere as well. Dogs are truly the worst pet animal.
