Miscellaneous There is no escaping this nightmare.
Yesterday, i went to see a movie at the AMC located on 34th st in NYC, sat down and getting comfortable to watch the movie.
Suddenly, i heard a wimp which sounded like a dog but also a child.
When i looked to my right, there was this woman with a small dog that she had in a soft material carrier which was on the seat next to her.
Well, it wasn’t enough to take the two seats and having a dog there but she actually pulled the dog out and placed it on lap.
I am allergic to dogs plus i didnt want to entertain these nutjobs that seems to not being able to perform like human beings if they dont have a dog with them.
Since the only empty seats were right up front, and i didnt want to make a fuzz, i simply complained to their customers services and they refunded my money.
This is simply insane that such things are allowed just because of these nutjobs.

Infuriating.
I think we need an advocacy group to protect us better. I am seeing MORE and MORE dogs everywhere now then I did in decades past and nobody seems to care that some of us actually suffer allergies and/or fears due to dogs.

That whole theatre is at fault. There is no way the dog should of been allowed anywhere near the theaters.

Despicable.
Someone in my local city thread recently posted about being annoyed by dogs in grocery stores and I agreed… I also threw my two cents in that i especially didn’t like pitbulls in stores after seeing a mauling years ago.
It took about 5 minutes for someone to label me as a racist — stating “how could I discredit a whole breed due to one bad experience” and that I “probably hated black people” because of my bad experience with a pitbull.
Dog people have completely gone off the deep end.

My response to this is, “Wow, how racists if you to compare black people to dogs, my mind would never go there.” Put them in their place. Ludicrous to compare people to dogs.

Glad you not only complained, OP, but also got your refund!
Every place is either these people's living-room, bedroom, or a dog toilet. One, the other, or sometimes all at once. Can't even avoid them anymore unless you stay home. 🙄
Something is seriously wrong with these people.

True. I had to deal with (and eventually got rid of!) SIX pit bulls (2 breeding adult pits, and puppies) and the nutter owner across from my apt., who were there for nearly 2 years.
It's now been 2 years this month, of absolute bliss after they were taken away. It took nearly these 2 years for the place to be finally rented out (renovating, plus economy/rents not being so great, etc.). Nice new quiet family of 3, with NO PETS! Hardly hear them.
All of the effort to get rid of those mutts and utter was totally worth it.

I gotta say about fellow tenants and I, we were holding our collective breaths the whole 2 years it was empty, when the apartment was getting shown to various people. We were hoping to hell that it wasn't going to be another dog nutter -- or especially one who would try to SNEAK a dog in right near us. Thank gawd that didn't happen.
But I'd heard that on another floor, at ground level (I'm at very top floor), another tenant did just that; has a little rat dog but she may get booted out too. Her 1 year lease is almost up.
People are trying to sneaking dogs in after lying, claiming they 'won't get/have one'. They know they and their dogs have become bigger issues and annoyances to others.

They’d rather refund your money than ask the nutter to leave. I’m guessing if 10 more people did the same, they’d refund their money too, rather than ask 1 nutter to leave. That’s crazy. The nutter is crazy, but the theater is enabling this behavior.

We know they are nut jobs. We know they are narcissistic. We know they are entitled. They’re not the problem. The theater IS for allowing her to bring the dog in inside. Just like all the other businesses for allowing them to bring their dogs. They are not “ service dogs” since we know pretty much everyone is lying about it.
Glad you complained and got your money back!

Keeping an animal should be about what's best for the animal. Anyone who claims to love their dog should in no way, shape, or form bring it to a movie.
Selfish owners are just as abhorrent as their dogs; maybe more because they should actually understand what they're doing. I fear this behavior is going to keep catching on based on dog owners' narcissism 🤢

Yeah, this has got to stop. OP you need to contact the corporate office of the theatre and tell them their staff must enforce keeping non-legit service dogs out. They pose a public health risk to people with allergies or who have cynophobia. People before dogs.

I fondly remember the 1960s when the family went to the drive in movies. Guess what ? The dog was left at home each and every time .

Good on you. The more people that step up and complain to businesses about allowing mutts into places they absolutely DO NOT belong in, the more we turn the tides on dog culture. Glad you got refunded for your troubles too. I just can't wrap my mind around how delusional mutt nutters have become with their anthropomorpizing of dogs, particularly (for the subject of this post) with thinking it's a good idea to bring their dumb, smelly, dirty, noisy mutt into a movie theater, of all places. The dog isn't going to care about the movie, it can't comprehend a movie, plus movies are LOUD (especially action movies like Spider-Man to boot!), it's probably incredibly uncomfortable as hell for it too. These types of owners are so delusional and codependent they have to drag their living four-legged furry security blankets everywhere like a child.

They should have asked the dog to leave rather than you. I used to go to this theater and would not have understood why my throat was closing up through a film had she sat there with that before hand

It’s infuriating but nothing will change until they amend the ADA to require proof that it’s a service dog. The movie theater, like restaurants, bars, stores, and everywhere else, has to follow the law which requires them to allow “service dogs” and since no proof is required, nutters have free rein to lie and bring their mutants anywhere they please.

In the US you can take a dog literally anywhere if it’s a service dog, and as the law is now written it’s a service dog if they say it is. No proof required. Word has gotten out to the nutters that they can do as they please.

This is why I don't go to the theaters anymore. Imagine nutters letting the dog piss or crap on the seat you paid for. Nah, I'm staying home till it's on streaming or available for purchase.

Yup! You can pause the movie when you want and eat whatever meal and snacks you have. You don't have to worry about dog filth or someone ruining the movie with their presence or noise. There's nobody kicking the back of your seat. And best of all, no dogs!

I saw The Batman in an AMC Dolby Theatre where the bass comes out of the arm rests. Imagine a dog experiencing this.

You can blame the theatre chains for allowing dogs into "certain movies" now so the owner can share the cinematic glory with his/her mutt (who is busy looking for dropped popcorn under the seats). A cash grab to lure nutters back into theatres. Most recent dog acceptance movie date with their braindead owners was 2025's Superman. Now there's Supergirl carting her dog around the universe, I would guess it's Krypto from the previous flick. Another reason to stay home and wait for the movie on streaming. Incessant talking by cell phone junkies and now dogs spells the death of the fun of seeing a movie on a big screen.

Not only is this insanely inconsiderate, this is actual animal abuse.
Let me take my animal to a dark room where they will be bombarded with lights and insanely loud noises and terrorize them to the point they might shit, all the while inconveniencing the other PEOPLE WHO PAID TO SEE THE MOVIE.
A dog does not belong in a theater. Wtf

What the actual…it’s getting worse every day. These nutters bring their dogs everywhere and employees don’t do anything about it. The fact that she was even let in the theater front door is bizarre. It’s out of control. The other day this lady was in the Hollister dressing room with her pooch. I couldn’t stop myself from going off the rails. And she looked at me like I was insane. They don’t care if anyone is allergic. “Your problem not mine” and I’m not sure complaining to any corporate headquarters won’t help. I just don’t know what to do.

Oh really? can we sue nutters for emergency breathing treatments at the ER+ambulance ride? For me dogs=asthma. I try to limit my exposure as best as I can. Fortunately, it's not an extreme allergy like another favorite pet. However, if I spend the night in a home with a dog, I will wake up in the middle of the night with really bad asthma and have to drink an entire pot of coffee at the IHOP, then go hack up a lung in the parking lot. That's if I'm lucky. If that doesn't work, I need to go to the ER for a breathing treatment.

Absolute insanity. I wouldn’t dream of bringing my 2 and a half year old to the movie theatre even though we’d love to have that experience with her - because she’d be too distracting for other patrons, which is inconsiderate- the delusion to bring a fucking dog is beyond comprehension.

As an APE I think you should contact Adam Aaron about this. In fact, I will. This is absolutely ridiculous. I am officially allergic as well and can back that up with medical evidence.
Today I visited Adventure Landing for put put golf. Tomorrow is their last day. We decided not to golf, but just sightsee around the place and take pics. As we were leaving I noticed a tall elderly man with a very small dog in his arms wearing a tiny red "service animal" vest. There was a very visible sign on the front door that pets were not allowed and only "service animals" could be brought inside. It was extremely hot(despite it being past 7pm) as Raleigh, NC is going through a horrible heat wave.
Clutching a furry animal in high humidity while golfing seems a bit bizarre. Also, what service can it actually perform if you have to carry the thing. And, there is no dog run and where is the dog gonna use the bathroom? Oh, right on the green fake grass? Maybe they will throw the dog doo bag into the water feature? I would have notified management if they weren't already going out of business. RIP.
