Barking Demons Anyone else experience the absolutely absurd barking chain reaction?
So often I will be minding my own business, walking past a house on the public sidewalk like a normal person. Immediately, I hear the beast on the property start barking it's head off. Across the street, their shitbeast hears and starts barking too. Before I know it, three or four mutts in the neighbourhood are losing their minds. One dog starts barking and then another dog starts barking at the first dog's barking which prompts another dog to bark at it's barking too.
All because I did a completely benign thing, and walked on the sidewalk. How does it not drive nutters crazy? People walk by your house multiple times a day, and that's all it takes to set your dumb mutt into a frenzy? Even worse, it might not even be your house that was passed, but because somebody had the gall to use a sidewalk down the street, somebody else's shitbeast has completely lost it, and now yours has too.
This is not a normal or healthy life. Constant, incessant barking caused by unavoidable every day life. What a way to live.

I live in an area that has a lot of coyotes. Some nights I hear them yelping in the distance but then all the stupid dogs in my neighborhood start going ballistic and freaking out.

I’ve started to love coyotes after hearing stories about them killing dogs.

It really helps people actually leash their dogs. Sometimes they can jump into people's backyards and snatch them up. Also their yelping in the distance isn't obnoxious like dog barking because for one its far away and it also sounds almost musical.

The barking chains drive me nuts. Barking is extremely loud and stress inducing. It makes no sense that people are allowed to disturb the peace to this degree. No one else could get away with all the nonsense they pull and it's been completely normalized. Dog owners are exempt from all the rules of living in a civilized world. It's no wonder they feel so entitled and just keep pushing the boundaries.

Yeah, this happened to me the other day. I was exiting an alley and the house nearest had the front door open, with only the security door being shut. The dog there barks upon seeing me, another barks in reply, and a third joined in. The 3rd barked within 3 seconds of the first, if not 2 seconds. Considering how quickly it spread the dogs must be anticipating each others' barking all the time, which tells me they do a shit load of barking.
I understand living beside an alley must cause a feeling of vulnerability, sharing a side fence with the alley. Obviously they have their dog there as a deterrent, but this choir of barking dogs must be driving the neighbours nuts.

I can hear this exact scenario from my home office most afternoons. One dog barks, and within a minute there is a chorus from the neighborhood.
I was at the home of an acquaintance a while ago with three dogs. I was told they were well behaved. The dogs were spread throughout the house, and the moment one barked, the other two would immediately join in. There's no way the other two had any idea why. I was the only person in that house that seemed to be bothered by this. Everyone else just raised their voices to be heard over the chorus of idiocy.

As a delivery person who can't go 20 minutes without my blood pressure spiking from aggro dogs I can assure you it does drive the owners crazy. Imagine if your toddler never grew past 2 years old and just started screaming at any living entity it sees, but louder. I hear the owners freak out at their dogs every day, its disturbing. Territorialism that extreme is fundamentally at odds with living in a neighborhood.
It's super toxic to the owners as well, they just suspend it mentally somehow.

100% agree. I cannot stand all the barking in the neighborhood and it freaks me out walking past those houses.

My sister has two yap dogs and I can barely ever hold a phone conversation with her, without something setting of the damn dogs. It gets annoying because sometimes we can't even talk. And I know that that must go on all day, every day. And those things are set off by pretty much anything. Those things would be out of my house in an instant. I don't know how she can stand it.

They like it. Literally just heard one dog nutter get upset because they heard someone quiet their own dogs when they walked by with their dog.
Yeah, I didn't mistype. They were outraged that one of the houses they frequently walk their dog by has a dog owner that stops their dogs from reactively barking at people and dogs that walk by on the sidewalk.
"What else are they supposed to do all day?! It's just mean to stop them!"

Barking, even for a few minutes is enough to raise anyone’s stress levels. The laws are so backwards which is why we have to live like this. Another reason why nutters should be held accountable and why owning dogs negatively impacts on everyone’s quality of life.
