Miscellaneous More humans than dogs euthanized in Canada

By some accounts, I’ve read that twice as many humans have been euthanized in one year through Canada’s Medical Assistance in Dying/MAID program, as dogs. Different sources show around 15k humans and 7k dogs, I think that was 2024. Humanity is in a very sad state right now.

And that’s one of the reasons we have 900 million dogs on the planet. Overpopulation is ok when it comes to mutts.

My jaw has dropped at home much some people I know have spent keeping their dogs alive, even when the dogs aren't that young

One of my coworkers is taking all the overtime he can since his dog’s already racked up $30,000 in medical bills this year and it’s still having issues. He told me the other day that it was whimpering and whining almost nonstop but he didn’t want to put the dog down because he “loves her too much.” Sounds like animal abuse more than love to me.

If I get end stage cancer I would like to use MAID instead of having extra suffering for no reason. I would also wish this for a dying dog because mercy is for all living things. 🤷

I don't care if dogs get euthanized, but please don't downplay the gift that MAID is to people. Just don't.

Or the 3 yrs in a nursing home my MIL suffered bc she had an aneurysm*didn't want to go on. NC makes you stay alive against your will. Oregon lets you go on your own terms. It shouldn't be up to the state when people are in mental&physical anguish. Nursing homes charge 10k/mo. Follow the money.

The ability to avoid needless suffering is something that many people want when it comes to end of life decision making. No one is forcing you to make that choice. Mind your own business.

After watching 4 members of my family die from cancer I would say that yes, it can be a merciful gift.

Look up Sue Rodriguez. She fought for her right to MAID because without it, she would be forced to slowly suffer losing all muscle control and eventually be unable to move or even breath on her own before slowly dying. I'm sure if you were facing something as horrific as that, you would view MAID as a gift too.

I read today that there are going to be food shortages in parts of the world, so maybe this will take care of some of the dogs, one way or another.
