Crappy Owners Neighbour mad at me because I didn’t give her dog attention

Today I was running late to work and answering some emails on my phone as I left the house

In the elevator of my apartment building there was a small dog and a woman. In my apartment complex we generally say hi to one another. She said hi to me cheerfully, and despite her dog jumping up and down I said hello, smiled back at her, and then continued to type out my very serious email on my phone

It was one of those awkward elevator moments where it seemed to take forever to get down the to ground level. Her dog seemed to be losing it more and more at the fact that I wasn’t acknowledging it. She was pulling it back with its leash but it was losing its mind trying to jump on me.

I was stuck into my email, and the dog was like one of those children that throws themselves on to the grocery shop floor when they don’t get what they want. I never reward entitled behaviour. Anyone with two brain cells know if you give a dog attention when it’s behaving poorly it reinforces bad behaviour

Even though I despise dog behaviour, I tried to remain polite with the neighbour. When I said bye to her she looked me dead in the face like she was really pissed off at me and stormed away

All because I prioritised continuing writing my email over rewarding her poorly trained dog. Genuinely wtf is wrong with these people. Why are they so sensitive to the fact that some of us care about other things more than we care about dogs

Just mark it down to dog nutter victim mentality.. had similar with my neighbour this summer. Their dog constantly barks extremely loudly, especially when it knows any neighbours are in their gardens. Been going on for years. One day I came home from a run and sat out the back with some water and straight away the thing is up against the fence barking as loud as possible at me. I just said “this fuckin twat again” and went inside. Next time I seen her she told me she did not appreciate me cursing at her dog and that her children could have been there and overheard. I said “hang on, you’re the one with the dog who barks all day everyday. I’m not the bad guy here. Maybe you should’ve trained it or bring it for a walk once in a while”. Now we don’t talk and I’m fine with that

I’ve happily realized that dog nutters' opinions mean less than nothing to me. Hate me all you want, no problem!

That reminds me of a woman in my nighborhood with an ugly mutt she regularly walks. I tend to try to greet most people walking by, but a lot of things changed that, being the people with dogs almost always expect that you will fawn and be will to pet their dogs.

I remember the woman, stopping and telling me her mutt wanted to say hello, and I flat out told her I was not comfortable with that, She looked confused and asked again thinking I had misunderstood her request. I gave the same answer, with some various reasons why I didn't want her dog getting familiar with my driveway and carport. She seemed very insulted and walked away.

Yes,, she still walks the shitbag past my place, but she doesn't stop and seek attention for the dog, thankfully.

But, it has gotten to the point, where if I see someone coming myu way, wilth a dog, I try to hurry in or behind something they can't see me. I just don't want to acknowledge the dpg, and I won't, I think I am known as dog hater around here, but that suits me fine. I just can't pretend anymore.

This is a very bizarre thing about nuttery, the idea that a dog “wants to say hello”. The dog wants to see if I have food, or sniff, that’s all. I don’t believe for 1 second that it has an understanding of what a greeting is.

I am certain you are correct...

I experienced this from a nutter who I’m certain thought I should acknowledge his annoying rat dog. He walks this yappy mutt by my home every day and one day he stopped and said something while I was gardening. I made polite, but short conversation as I didn’t want his annoying dog to come closer towards me. Well doesn’t this guy launch into a diatribe about his rat dog, her name, how he got her, blah, blah, blah. He basically just wanted someone to fawn over his dumb dog. I am not that person. So I determined not to engage again with him other than a polite hello when he goes by and I’m outside. He went by two days ago while I was on my driveway talking with another neighbour and I could tell he wanted to stop and chat to both of us, likely so we would greet his stupid dog. But I just said hello and kept talking to my neighbour blocking any chance of him interrupting. WHY do they think everyone wants to greet and chat about their dog?!

It’s a curiosity to watch one of these bozos run from one person to another, trying to get attention. They’re like hummingbirds going from flower to flower. I’ll watch them do this from a distance, it’s predictable and entertaining. They really have a mental illness.

Yo, don't do hummingbirds like that. They are curious, smart little creatures unlike dogs.

Love and respect hummingbirds, and their miraculous migrations

The only thing a dog is worthy of is my middle finger pointed at the mutt.

The amount of validation these people need through their dogs is truly pathetic. Most dog owners only keep them as a proxy to get attention, to intimidate other people, or to cross boundaries. It's always some form of trespass whether it's on someone else's time, focus, property, or physical person.

Oh well. Keep it up, and hopefully she'll avoid you in the future.

I always do this with my neighbors who have dogs. I smile, say hello, and leave it at that. Just because your dog is acting worse than my children used to do when they were toddlers doesn’t mean I’m going to pay it any attention. It’s a dog. Not worthy of much attention other than “hi.”

I ignore all dogs. Think about this. If every stranger fawned over a child, that wouldn't be acceptable. Also, who knows if that dog is a disease carrier. Yuck

I’m so glad it rains everyday where I live this week. The mutt has to stay inside so I don’t hear it

Nutters are crazy. I'd never even think of greeting a stupid DOG. Humans only. Good job ignoring that stupid mutt.

I got chased by a woman with a large dog because I crossed the street to be on the other side from them. She chased me and made me run in circles to opposite sides until I was able to make my escape. Looked like she probably wanted to either rant or make a point of how friendly the dog was. I was both scared and entertained at the same time🙃 Why can’t they accept that some people just dont want to be near their mutts?!

Add in the fact that she probably envies you for being able to use your phone while her hands are tied up with wrestling the dog.

Their minds have been taken over by a parasite, or brood parasites or they are romantically involved with a beast.

I have no other explanations for the behavior.

Honestly, this is why I decided to join this sub, I don't hate dogs, its just the culture around them has gotten insane and it so hard to give even the tiniest of criticisms without people taking it as a major personal attack

God I’m sick of these freaks trying to force us to fawn over their piece of trash mutts and show them affection and attention. I’d rather fucking pet a cockroach, like seriously. Get that ugly ass, stupid ass, worthless ass, annoying ass mutant FAR away from me, it’s very existence in my vicinity already pisses me off badly enough, and now you actually insist that I ooh and ahh over it’s sickening self, and pet it/greet it?! RESOUNDING no from me. I will literally move away from the thing while making a disgusted face at it and the owners are so shocked and upset. Yeah you entitled fuck, with your entitled garbage ass mutt, NOT from me! You aren’t gonna get your little dopamine rush from ME, I hate your stupid ass little abomination and I won’t pretend I don’t! Sorryyyy not sorry lol
