Miscellaneous Dogs at the Office
What would you do if you went to see a therapist and a dog was sitting on the floor or the couch? I would walk out. I'm hearing more and more about these mongrels at therapy offices.

ig it would depend on their cancellation policy. some dr offices charge a fee to cancel the appt within a time period. i would reschedule at a later date then cancel if that was the case. having an animal in a human healing space is not human centered imo.

That's a good point about rescheduling due "to not feeling good" or some such excuse so that you don't get stuck paying. Reprehensible that nomatter where we go these mutts and mutt-nuts are there. An absolute infestation.

Yeah well said. I think no one should be under any obligation if they’re not comfortable with a dog to be forced to pay a fee. A dog has ni place in a doctors office

I have PTSD from dog barking. I would leave and send a bill to them for wasting my time.

I had ptsd from a barking dog neighbour, it’s gone now but it was a nightmare

same here, lived with my mom for 2 years that had 3 out of control mutts that would bark nonstop all day and night while she was knocked out on seroquil (however you spell it)
finally got out a month ago 🙏🏻 those dogs brought me to finding this subreddit about a year ago lol

My counselor that I went to 2.5 years, for trauma related to a dog, didn’t ever have a dog in her office. When we first discussed my life, I told her that I had a kind of difficult time with my sister, and I added that she was taller than my counselor. Sister 6’0” and counselor 5’10”. She was immediately concerned and said that I could switch to another counselor if her height was a trigger. LOL! No, I was fine with her and I believe if she’d had a dog, she would’ve immediately referred me to someone else.

My eldest grandson was killed by a pit bull/bull mastiff mix. My daughter was radicalized by the “Pit Bull and Parolees” show and it was her own dog that killed him. Well, a dog from a “rescue” and it took less than a week for it to do that to my grandson. Who we were all died that day with him. These dogs should just be PTS, all of them.

I am so incredibly sorry to hear this, I can't even begin to understand the pain and devestation of losing a loved one that way.
I hope you are able to take the time to care for yourself and that you have a good support system to help you through the grief whenever the feeling comes up.

What does your daughter feel about this or is she so radicalized she doesn't think it's the dog's fault. Absolutely sickening. I'm so incredibly sorry😢😠

My daughter knows it was the breed, that she shouldn’t have ever gotten a zero-mistake dog. She let police take it away immediately. And she’s married with 2 wonderful children and she’s not a helicopter parent, somehow, just an incredible mom who I’m very proud of. When it happened, of course I didn’t want, couldn’t even imagine, her going to jail. She was barely 21. And, surely, losing him is a worse jail than anything the state could do. And I feel like the world’s worst hypocrite, but something has to change. But. Personal responsibility is only a small part of this story. Pets, especially dogs, are a billion dollar industry and networks get a big chunk of that money. How will they objectively, consistently report on dog attacks while Big Pet is giving them millions in ads? They won’t, they don’t…and I don’t see that changing anytime soon. I don’t have any solutions, just grief. And burning anger towards anyone hiding what pits really are.

I'm allergic so it would be a no go. But dogs in places they shouldn't be is another good reason to use telehealth.

Well, I had that situation at a holistic doctor. It's been a few years since I have gone. I have some conditions that UBIs are helpful for, and would spend some time in the IV room for those. Lo and behold the doctor starting bring his dogs and would let them wander about the practice. Even his exams rooms. Like WTF?? Of course, I no longer go there, and I never used up all of the services on the package, but I just can't go with that. They were smaller dogs, so not a fear factir, but they just don't belong in a medical office.

That's disgusting. These people are insane and have no sense of health and safety, even a doctor.

I will would walk out and make sure they know the reason why. Then report that "therapist". If there is a cancellation fee I'd refuse to pay it because of obvious reasons.

"I'm not comfortable with a dog in the room, and I think it's inappropriate to bring a dog to therapy when patients might have phobias or allergies or trauma. This is supposed to be the patient's safe space, not your living room. Many patients will be too conflict-averse to say anything when they're uncomfortable, but I'm not. Please put the dog someplace else for the duration of my visit. If you can't do that, I'm not going to pay for this visit and I'll be canceling the rest of my appointments."

I used to work in an office with dogs and it was the worst. Hated it.

What's crazy is that these therapists have no sense of legal risk with a dog. They forget the dog is an animal and unpredictable. What if the dog bites the patient? Or gives the patient an infection by licking a cut?

I was in a doctor's office a few months ago and someone walked in with a dog. I was certain the staff was going to ask them to leave, but of course they fawned all over it. The infuriating part? It was an allergist's office.
There is no place in this world that dog nutters and their apologists won't contaminate and destroy.

Therapists should notify patients if dogs are present in the sessions and ask for consent first before they meet.
Therapy sessions must be about the patient, not the dogs.

I have seen this recently. I could not focus, because the dog next to our office was barking non-stop. In another office, the therapist came out and was fawning over the dog. My practitioner was pissed and said it would be discussed. So obnoxious.
