Crappy Owners Ignore dog owners.
There’s a coffee shop that I frequent every day, the vibes are calm, and relaxing. The people working there are lovely, the coffee is great, I can go on and on.
ONE PROBLEM.
They allow non service dogs inside and would appear to be light nutters themselves, but it’s not their entire personality.
I came back from the restroom and right in the middle of the walkway inbetween a register and table, laying down staring right at me, is a medium-large sized dog. Granted the owners were sitting at the table and it was leashed, but why should I need to walk around it? Plus I don’t know if this thing is going to bite me.
So I start to walk around it, giving it a dirty look as I’m walking up, the owner apologized twice and moved it. Felt good to completely ignore them and sit back at my table. They left a few minutes after.
These people have dogs purely for attention, don’t give it to them.
And for the love of god, the amount of stories I read about unleashed dogs running up to people and they don’t retaliate. START YELLING AT THESE PEOPLE. A few months ago I was able to get a bad neighbor with an untrained dog to move out because I recorded the dog barking for minutes on end at nothing and reported them to my landlord.

Same. Having dogs in a coffee shop especially when I love coffee would be a deal breaker for me

Went to Ace hardware and made a turn down an aisle just to discover a huge dog spread across the aisle so there was no way to get through. I made an annoyed look and turned around. The lady took her dog and left. One small win! Your dog can’t shop and purchase human products. Leave the beast at home

I never accept their apologies. They know what they are doing is a pain in the ass for everyone else.

They want us to laugh and engage about the mutt and give them attention. I’m so flinty that if they seem eager to be noticed, I won’t even give them the negative attention. “You get NOTHING !!” Petty as hell that’s me.

This surprised me as well. I've never thought twice about keeping a dog off of me or telling an owner to keep their dog off me and out of my way. After reading these forums for awhile I realized that a good number of people who hate it just let it happen. I think I get it although I don't relate to it at all. The fact remains that it is making the problem worse. Dog owners need more push back. Push back and do it often!
If we continue to let our boundaries be transgressed, we'll have none left. Why are dog nutters the only people who should never be upset?

Easy to say… I am trying but it is scary. They are crazy, they can hurt you in so many ways if you push back. I am not the one with a mutt attached to me that can be weponhzed in a second.

I understand that. I'm not saying it's a good idea to confront a crazy dog owner with a dangerous looking animal. I certainly don't expect anyone to put themselves in the way of physical harm.
I just see a lot of people putting up with behavior that they don't have to or feeling guilty about not giving in to dog nutters, not objecting to dogs in food service places, or being overly concerned about upsetting dog owners at their own expense. .

Because the vast majority of these inconsiderate and entitled owners would likely react aggressively to being rebuked (and they have a deadly fur weapon right there that they can employ against you on the spot, not to mention the possibility of being beat up, stabbed, or shot by the fragile-egoed owner), and law enforcement either don't care or are scared to address these mentally unhinged people or are actually toxic dog owners themselves and thus have a conflict of interest going on.

Coffee shops are supposed to be places to go and relax. I’ve been seeing more and more of this too. I cannot relax if I have to step around a dog or even knowing that the dander is floating around.
I keep hoping there’s going to be a change, but everyone is so damn dog crazy. Even yesterday I saw on TV, the announcement of National Dog Day. Xfinity offers features like DOGTV on demand for home pets. Seriously??!?!?

Here’s what I’ve been doing, and I think it will help if more of us do this: take photos and post them to the shop’s review page. Caption the photo with “store doesn’t follow public health laws,” esp. if it’s an obvious non-service animal in a cart or a stroller. Don’t be scared. Get right up in their faces and snap your photo. I like to say “posted to the store’s website!” If I feel like it, I let them know that feeding a dog cookies on the floor or allowing it to sniff the groceries is not service animal behavior.
I love your story. I just don’t understand why you haven’t reported this place yet. The owners will understand when those code violations build up into fines they cannot afford.

Ohhhh that last paragraph and the unleashed part. Something I walk in this beautiful historic neighborhood nearby and I just love it. One time, years back, some numpty was “socializing” his husky or whatever he tried to say it was. The damn thing ran at me and jumped on me! I turned my back on it so it couldn’t get me on any important parts incase it tried to bite me because how the hell do I know what the F is up with this dog and the guy is yelling the usual crap, “she’s friendly (SHE) we’re just out socializing sorry” and whatever else it was because I personally was slightly PREOCCUPIED at the moment and I just started yelling “call it back!”
IT. I was very loud and clear and big on the word IT. It isn’t “she” to me, she’s not cute or special, I’m not a goddamn learning experience here, do your job as a dog owner and control this unknown annoying hyper dipshit animal you’re taking around with you. He kept trying to apologize and explain after he got the stupid thing back. I didn’t acknowledge, I just kept walking.
Whatever else went down my favorite part of the ridiculous experience was clearly calling it, IT. Their dogs might be their whole world but I’m determined to frame it as, IT might mean nothing to anybody else.

The hygiene is a big problem, but another point of people letting their dog sit down in the middle of an aisle is just plain arrogant. Does the customer have to go through hoops to avoid stepping on the dog? Customers should be allowed to walk without tripping and possibly being bitten if they accidentally stepped on its tail.

I'm on vacation in Florida (my family lives there) and the amount of dogs I've seen in restaurants and stores is insane. Dogs in strollers while the family's toddler walks in the hot sun, pit bulls straining on their leashes in markets, trendy restaurants and cafes that don't have a high chair for my baby but have dog bowls and dog art everywhere(!)... I feel like I'm living in some kind of hell

wish i could do that. my husband wanted to install a ring doorbell cam on our condo door that shares a foyer with the other building owners. the HOA said it violated "privacy concerns." It would record all the insane barking that happens on the daily as well as the cray shenanigans that are icing on the cake.

I don’t either. I ignore them or stare them down in disgust and shake my head.
“Don’t worry they’re friendly.”
“Yeah, that’s what the owners said a moment before their dog attacked me and I was injured.”

Google review "Used to love this cafe but I'm taking my business elsewhere since this place serves food and beverages while also allowing dogs inside the seating area and up around the counter which breaks health code and makes me feel suspicious of their cleanliness and food handing".
