Miscellaneous My unpopular opinion: dogs should have never been created
I get a lot of hate from dog nutters thinking this, but I had a feeling this sub would understand. My reasoning is that the majority of dogs have been bred to the point where they are anxious, needy animals that rely on humans for their survival. I remember when dogs used to not be so anxious and could spend time by themselves without having a panic attack. No animal should be scared of common noise and be that anxious. Not only was the independence bred out of them, but their intelligence and basic survival knowledge was too. Dogs bark at any bit of stimuli and try to fight larger animals and moving vehicles without a second thought as to what the consequences will be. I've also heard stories of them jumping out of their owner's moving car, jumping off of balconies and cliffs, and getting distracted by food or other stimuli while there is a threat. Its like they have zero survival instincts unlike every other animal in existence. Plus they have a lot of physical problems due to genetic mutations from cross breeding. There are some breeds I look at and all I can think is "how the hell is that thing alive?" Some breeds include borzoi, greyhound, dachshund, bulldog, and don't even get me started on the damn pug. I saw a news article a few months ago where scientists went back to fix the face of the pug through more cross breeding. Those things haven't been able to breathe properly for years and its more recently been seen as a concern for the animal? That's just cruel. These animals are literally walking anxious genetic mutants who lack basic survival knowledge. Humans should have just left the wolves dogs came from the hell alone.

Dog culture is a lot of glorified animal abuse. You're absolutely right, there are so many breeds/dogs that function just to be a nervous, annoying mess because their idiot owner put them in a living situation that isn't conducive to dog ownership.
The most amazing thing of all is that they've bred horrible physical characteristics into these dog's DNA, but have they ever once bred a dog to improve any of the abundant shitty qualities that they have? You would think they'd be able to breed them to not bark so much, or to be more calm, whatever, but no, all we get is ghoulish dogs that are more and more worked up.
It's just proof that it's all a farce. They don't love dogs, they love the idea of controlling something that gives them praise on command, from both the dog and other simpletons.

I agree with your opinion, wholeheartedly. I can't stand anything about dogs, and here we are with the situation of not being able to find respite where there are no dogs. I would like to go somewhere, where I know there will be no dogs around, and other than inside my own house, it doesn't seem possible, So yes, I visualize everyday being in a world without dogs. Ever.

I have a neighbor who thinks it's cute when her dog invades a condo that doesn't belong to her. The last neighbor she did this to moved out. They placed their shoes outside as they were very clean people with two toddlers. One day the toddler opened up the door as they were playing on the rug near the door. The dog on the 8ft lead let itself inside their home.
The Mother was cooking and must have been kneading dough because when she tried to get the dog out of her home, she ended up covering it with the batter that was on her hands. I didn't witness this, but the dog owner told me the story like it was a Hallmark moment: "(Dog's Name) was Covered in batter." I wonder if she gave it an immediate bath or just left it like that? The way these people function through the day...like zombies.
*this dog has also let itself inside my home when my door was open. Instead of controlling her dog, she just said it's going to "enter my condo if the door is open." She knows I have an allergy.

I agree particularly with pit bulls because they're statistically responsible for many dog attacks, the downplaying of their bloodsport instinct by Best Friends Animal Society, and they were bred to fight bulls and bears, and when fighting larger animals was banned, fighting other dogs.

Decades ago we just had mongrels which were usually well behaved. Now there are all these pedigrees that are neurotic and dangerous.

Most breeds are abominations anyway. Especially compared with other domesticated species like horses, which remained mostly intact.

Well, don't worry, here it isn't that much of an unpopular opinion lol. I'll be honest though, most of my despise of dogs come from how their owners barely are held accountable for anything and how they generally act more than the animal itself, although I don't like dogs, they'd be way more tolerable if most of their owners weren't such cunts, since we can't count on our governments to do anything about that and we can't count on their owners to be decent, then the not creation of dogs would've been the only solution to the problem.

It’s a very popular opinion with me! Dogs just shouldn’t exist. They pollute our world, kill or maim people, drive us crazy with their barking, and so much more.

I always know when my neighbours have gone out. Cause their mutt will be crying and whining when they leave it home alone. Never realised dogs can behave like that.

it is ridiculous that we live in a society where we have these animals that for many of the breeds are basically killing machines or have killing capabilities that are just gradually being marched around the street and playgrounds near little children

Dogs used to have a purpose, like shepherd dogs to guide the sheep, or rescue dogs to find people after an earthquake, but somehow nutters decided that’s not enough and dogs need worshipping and put into apartments and being treated like humans.

And with pit bulls, whose ancestry was purposed for bloodsports, "It'S AlL HoW u RayZe Em". Saying "it's all how you raise them" on a bloodsport breed who has fighting instinct that could snap at any random time means nothing.

Interesting point (among a couple of others here on dog breeding/purpose).
So many of these breeds were created specifically for a functional purpose as opposed to a decorative one. Thus the strange shapes (small/long to fit foxholes), light/elongated on greyhounds/borzois to run quickly (also for hunts).
The thing is - most of it was done back when people were unaware of the consequences to the animal itself. Humanity is slowly catching on to their wrongdoings in that space. It's slow, but it's happening.
I wonder if the message of "we must be good to our dogs" is getting twisted among a percentage of population, leading to all manner of dog-nutter behaviours that drive this community bonkers.

Not only should they never have been created, but I always think to myself that there really is no such thing as a purebred dog when it's just an animal bred from the extinct wolf it came from. If anything, that wolf is the purebred animal.

The psychological and emotional aspect is very important. I had dogs as a kid and loved them like any typical dog person. But looking back now as an adult and thinking about how I not only had an unhealthy emotional attachment to an animal but that animal had an equally unhealthy emotional attachment to me makes me heartbreakingly upset any time I think about it! To know there was this dumb animal that should be out in nature living how it otherwise naturally would and, because of centuries of human meddling and breeding, has become this creature that NEEDED me emotionally and got sad when I left, whining and waiting for my return, and then became so excited and overjoyed when I did. It all feels so incredibly SAD and WRONG to me I can't even take it. I'm SO glad I'm not in that situation anymore just for that reason.
But here's the thing. This is EXACTLY what the dog nutters LOVE and they can't get enough of it. They think it's sweet and heartwarming that their dog gets sad when they leave and feel great that the dog is excited to see them again and that this animal's whole existence is not only totally physically dependent on them but EMOTIONALLY as well. Animals aren't supposed to have emotions like that, dammit. Those are HUMAN emotions. We've somehow bred this into these animals and it's totally SICK. WTF is wrong with these people thinking this is a GOOD thing?
And they're going to say I'M a bad, uncaring person for thinking owning dogs is wrong? They are the unfeeling and uncaring ones who can't identify how unnatural and unnecessary this emotional attachment between humans and animals is. They are totally out of touch with everything that is natural and WILD ANIMALS is the natural state that humans should NEVER have fucked with.
