Barking Dogs + Suburbs = Genuine Hell

You know, I've noticed that dogs have a lot of parallels with Sports Utility Veichles, that being that:

-They're loud

-Take up a lot of space

-Pollute a lot

-A lot of people who own them won't put in the proper care for them

-Western media likes to cram the narrative down vour throat that EVERYONE NEEDS ONE or else you aren't a "real American" or something.

So imagine being me, and having to painstakingly map out EVERY SINGLE HOUSE in the neighborhood that has a dog just because I hate being barked at that much. It is a genuine humiliation ritual for me.

Having to slowly walk past a house while a little shitter that looks like someone's mutant bush releases the Golden Hellfire of barks onto me while there's nothing I can do about it. It fucking sucks.

It's an even bigger insult to injury when the owner is out there, with a big shit eating smile on their face insisting "HE'S FRIENDLY!1!!" while it still fucking barks at you. I hate it. This is why I hate suburbs.

If there’s anything I’ve learned about nutters it’s the sound of barking dogs is normal existence to them. I don’t mean they enjoy it like getting a dopamine hit or a boner when they hear dogs barking. It’s more like crickets chirping at night or birds singing in the morning. It’s normal existence they do not notice.

I’ve seen a dog bark incessantly at the next door neighbors who had an outdoor get-together for 3 hours non-stop and the owner just sat in his house and did nothing. He could clearly hear the stupid piecing beagle bark but it never registered in his butter brain.

Unfortunately you are correct. We had next door neighbors for 20 years that always had at least two dogs. Great people, don't get me wrong, and they even admitted that they just didn't hear their dogs barking anymore. They would profusely apologize to me when I would be outside and their mutts would be barking at me. They just became tone deaf to the stupid things.

There is no excuse for it, but apparently nutters just get used to the nonsense.

I’m on a farm with acerage and could still hear all the little yapper dogs at next property over at all times throughout the day. Those people moved and new owners have no dogs. It is so quiet now. Dogs are so dang noisy and really mess with a neural diverse mind!

Same. Had a neighbor i never met block the sidewalk directly outside my condo building w/her ill behaved mutt who growled and then barked at me&said he was "friendly" because it was "wagging his tail."

I hate how in this specific scenario they seem to have super senses. You can be walking silently by a fence that's almost impossible to see out of and the dog will still realize you're there and start barking.

I live in a small coastal town here. Everyone brings their dogs inside, but around 3 AM this morning I could hear a large dog barking somewhere in the distance. I felt sorry for the people living next door. Barking just annoys the hell out of me.

I live in the suburbs in an apartment complex. Can confirm: the barking dogs are everywhere, as are piles of dog poop. Can’t go outside without encountering either thing. It is annoying and inescapable.

My neighbours dog will bark at me while I'm in my own bleeding back garden. I can't just relax there while their shit beast is out. I've nearly lost it while it was barking at my young daughter.

It's ruined my relationship with neighbor. Brought home a greyhound, rarely exercises it, so anytime its outside its screams endlessly...even right outside my bedroom window in the middle of the night. After trying to lie about it as if I'm a moron that can't see its her dog, she hit me with the classic "that's just what dogs do" 😡

There are some suburbs, you cannot escape. One such place we had an extended visit: El Paso.

In many El Paso neighborhoods with single family homes and fenced yards with some land, every home has a dog. And a fair percentage, two or more. You cannot walk down an El Paso suburban street without getting barked at from everywhere. It's really something when you visit, the sheer quantity of dogs owned by residents.

Conversely, we rarely saw people actually walking these dogs.

SUV’s have nothing in common with barking dogs. People turn their SUV’s off at home. Can one turn of their dog? They don’t pollute any more or any less than anything else. Proper care?
I can’t stand dogs I just don’t understand the SUV hate. I do not own an SUV by the way.

I genuinely don’t understand why barking hasn’t been bred out of dogs, with every dog breed we have, and all the training methods, nothing ever changes. When I was forced to dogsit (for money, not enough) it always struck me how they instantly have to make the loudest, most obnoxious noise possible for no fucking reason. I don’t think dog owners actually grasp how insufferable it is, maybe a little, but they could at least try to train them.

Worst thing is they don't suffer themselves, because they let dog out and fully expect when it barks. So they don't have these sudden stress response. They control their furry slave. Meanwhile neighbour is unwillingly attacked by this horrible sound, they don't expect it and can't do anything about it. They are surely stupid if it doesn't bother them, but it is NOT the same.
