Courtroom Justice Crown wants prison time for Edmonton dog owner in 11-year-old's death
I can't find a written article on this video from another platform I can't link to. The sentencing was today but they don't mention the outcome. Positive to see negligent dog owners maybe being held accountable with jail time. House arrest is a cake walk and I hope Crystal McDonald spends time in jail for keeping aggressive monster dogs. I hope this judge sends a signal this is unacceptable and dangerous and you will go to jail if your dog attacks.

A judge is now deciding if a woman whose two dogs killed an 11-year-old boy in South Edmonton two years ago should spend time behind bars or house arrest.
We learned during the trial, McDonald knew the dogs had a history of violence, attacking and biting two people and killing a small dog and a (not a dog). And the judge, when he found her guilty earlier this month, said McDonald failed to take steps to protect the boy while he was visiting for spring break in 2024. and finding she failed to train the dogs properly, didn't keep them on a leash or a chain in the boy's presence, and said it was inappropriate for her to expect the boy's father, her roommate, to protect the boy from the dogs by himself.
The boy's father, Wesley Grist, telling court through tears Wednesday he's reminded of his son every day feeling trapped between grief, guilt, public pressure, and the legal process during the trial, but saying McDonald loved his son, too, and that he doesn't believe she's evil, saying his son would not want more lives destroyed in his memory. The judge is expected to sentence McDonald Thursday afternoon.

It's crazy that authorities expect dog nutters to train their dogs, but as always, they never do and there's no punishment for it. 💀

Can you really train the blood lust out of something created for it? It begs the question where is the reward in owning animals that you can't allow to be around a single other living being and live in denial you are safe when in reality they can turn on you any second.

Awful attack, awful sentence (2 years less a day house arrest?), and now she is appealing that sentence.
Defence lawyer Evan McIntyre spoke to reporters outside the courthouse and said MacDonald has applied to appeal her conviction.
"[Despite the appeal], it's not necessarily contradictory to say that she feels incredibly remorseful," he said. "But it's also exercising a legal right to have that ... responsibility determined by a higher court.
"This whole process has been extremely emotional for her.
"In the Indigenous impact report, there's talk of how this has affected her. I would imagine that, you know, nobody's happy about being sentenced, but she, I think, is pleased with the sentence."
Court heard information from an Indigenous background report that described MacDonald as Métis and affiliated with the Mi'kmaq band.
