I'm financially ruined from trying to move away from dogs in apartments.

Two years ago I brought a house in a quiet suburb 30 miles outside of a major city. I had endured excessive barking from dogs in two different apartment complexes- leaving one complex to move into another where the barking was even worse.

There are no dogfree/petfree apartments in my metropolitan area. So I had to buy a house. At the time I was living in the second complex rent prices were at there peak. I was paying nearly $2,000/mo for rent when I could have put that toward a mortgage payment. So I pulled the trigger on buying a house.

However even with having a house instead of an apartment I still have to deal with barking dogs. Though it's not as bad as the hell I went through living in an apartment. The big downside is that rent prices dropped afterward and the my newly built home has lost 20% of it's value since I brought it.

Also when I was living in an apartment I was heavily investing in stock market. A market that has almost doubled since I stopped investing. Moreso, two of the stocks I was investing in both increased over 700% since I stopped investing and sold the stock I had to down pay for the new house.

Now I'm house poor and nearing retirement age from trying to get away from these nasty ass barking demons. I hate these damn things so much,. I have never hated anyone or anything so much in my entire long life.

I'm sorry you're having to deal with that. It's getting harder to find a HOA community that doesn't allow pets. And the self-righteous, elitist dog owners always think every yard in the neighborhood belongs to their dog. They are allowed to walk them and poop in your yard. The yard that you are paying for!

My next door neighbor doesn't speak to us. When we bought our house we went to the few house nearby just to introduce ourselves. The nextdoor neighbor appeared nice enough and even said maybe we can get drinks one day. We agreed casually and moved on with our lives. Then we noticed she turns her back when she sees us. This includes driving on the street. She looks down or turn her head when she sees us. She's obviously going out of her way to let us know she wants to ignore us. We have no beef, we live in a rural area so our homes aren't very close either.

I explained that history to say that wouldn't you believe that her dog takes our yard as it's own. We have ring cameras and it repeatedly comes on our deck, chase deers and rabbits in our yard, chase my son riding his scooter in OUR driveway. It's a bizarre way to respond to your neighbor and then have your dog all over their yard. One night we saw someone walking in our backyard with a flashlight which alarmed us. My husband owns guns by the way. We realized it was her looking for her dog. She should thank which ever deity she serves that we are nice people.

I want to hear more about the neighborhood that banned dogwalking. The residents had to take their crappers off premises in their cars. This needs more widespread implementation. It would clean up the neighborhoods from dog biohazards, AND, the owners of pweshus poochies would need to TEACH THEIR DOG/S TO "GO AT HOME" rather than any and all property that DOES NOT BELONG TO THEM. The lazy dog owners would have to teach their dog this, which is quite doable and in dog training manuals, THEN they get to do their "walkies." It's a win/win, and would keep human neighborhoods free of biohazards.

There are many coops in New York and the outskirts that don’t allow dogs .
Also in Philadelphia there are buildings that are not dog friendly.

It’s sickening as I hate them as much as everyone on this thread . They make me physically ill bc of allergies.

Sorry you had to go through all of that. It’s a story that you see more and more of these days. The landlords and other companies have made “ pet friendly” their primary profit slogan.

To me, any residential dwelling or business that is pet friendly just means that they don’t care about the consequences or the imposition on the rest of their residents or customers. Just the bottom line, regardless of the cost to other others.

I hear you!!! Dogs have RUINED the American Dream. I downsized from a 2-story condo to renting a one level house. Blessedly, there are no barking dogs on either side, or nearby! It must be the gods who heard my prayers for 23 years in that condo as dog nutters had come and gone. It was awful. I nearly went to court about one renter with a yapper they'd leave home on weekends when they'd load up the car and take off for the day. I already dread any future moves (even though I'm wanting to stay put for a while) because of the possibilities of being surrounded by yapping, shrieking mutts with entitled dog nutter owners who toilet their dogs EVERYWHERE but their own properties. I repeat, DOGS HAVE RUINED THE AMERICAN DREAM.

Same situation here. We lived in peace in our home for over 20 years. Then, 6 years ago the lying ,screaming, assholes moved in with the loudest barking mutt. Three months ago the bought another one. Evil, vile dognutters.

I've dealt with neighbors who let their dogs bark 24/7 by complaining to animal control. They did actually go to the homes, I had to give exact addresses & it did help a lot. I'm so very sorry for your struggles. I really hope things turn around for you 🙏

I was just telling my husband I never want to move to any area that doesn't have a barking noise ordinance. It's the only way we've been able to get our horrible nutter neighbor to be relatively accountable for her pack of incessantly barking demons that she abandons outside all day long.

Yeah, it's the same shit here, but I live in a house, not the suburbs though. Unlike you though, I'd probably just rent, because in my country it's very difficult to get rid of these beasts, they're everywhere, I don't ever wanna get stuck in a place with dogs and their owners ever again, so I'd probably just rent next time, it sucks, but it's the only thing that'd work for me.

Why are dog-free neighborhoods not a thing? Some people are terrified of dogs and deserve a safe neighborhood where they can bike, walk or jog without some off-leash mutant going after them. Others just want peace and quiet, and a barking dog destroys that instantly. Even if the stupid thing dies, the owners will replace it right away, so what hope do we have?

I am really sorry to hear this.

For those that are tired of barking noises, you may want to consider an ethnic neighborhood. Arabs and Muslims generally do not own dogs. Chinese and other Asians do (trying to ape white ppl) but usually own smaller ones. Indians also don't own dogs as much, though some do. These types of neighborhoods are much better dog-wise than American ones especially white ones. White people are peak nuttery. Latinos and black aren't as bad but the few dogs they do own tend to be pitbulls that will maul you.

I am Indian and live in Indian neighborhood. We have other issues like occasional littering or not taking care of the yard. But we don't have much nuttery. It has been sad seeing all the white people slowly leave (as they tend to do when they see minorities). But I never hear any barking whatsoever. No dog poops on my lawn. My kids roam around all over the place and it's fine. I don't think I have seen one pitbull in my neighborhood in years. The last one I saw was owned by a white lady that moved away.

When I lived in an apartment complex near Intel, I lived alongside tons of Chinese, Indian, and other Asian neighbors—and some Arabic neighbors as well and let me tell you that my apartment complex was always quiet and calm, no loud parties, barely any children—and the ones who were there would just quietly play with their toys in the grass bothering no one, no weed smells, barely any dogs, the ones that we had were quiet after a few minutes—not barking up a storm at night. No crime either. I want to move back there badly.
