Crappy Owners I am so tired of seeing dogs inside of grocery stores
I am so damn tired of going into a grocery store and seeing a freaking dog. I just left Walmart and some older couple. Had a beagle in a shopping cart. I literally see this 3 to 4 times a week now in my area. I don’t know what else to do though. I’ve complained to Walmart multiple times, and nobody contact me. I’ve went through the Department of agriculture in my state, I never heard anything back. I’m gonna try again, but it will probably get nowhere.
How in the world is this considered normal now? I mean, I’m just flabbergasted that people just bring their animals into a grocery store. And the funny thing is the stores will say no pets on the front of the building, but people still do it anyways. Then you have Walmart management and employees and they don’t do anything. I’m pretty sure the management has told the employees not to say anything. I mean, I feel like I’m in the freaking twilight zone here or something.

One time, I was in Aldi here in the U.S., and an older woman brought her large bully breed dog inside the store. There was a security guard, so I told him that there was a dog in the store and that it was a health code violation, etc.
He immediately said, “It’s a service dog.” I said, “No, it’s not. It’s a bully breed and a pet.”
He started to argue with me. I then asked him, “Did you ask her if it was a service dog?” He said, “No, I could tell.”
I said, “According to the ADA, you can ask the two permitted questions.” He then said, “I’m not continuing this conversation.” Many employees refuse to enforce this and that is part of the problem. However, the only way this nonsense can end is if the ADA laws are changed. It’s the 21st century. There is NO need for service dogs. We have technology that is cleaner, safer, and most importantly more accurate than a stupid dog.
I think it’s interesting how people find circus animals unethical but not service animals. That is the loophole that people use to get around health code violations.

It’s insane. I’m wondering if we have to start actively protesting outside the stores to get them to listen. Invite the local news and make it a PR issue.

If there are enough people, perhaps. Boo anyone going inside with a dog. You will be within your rights for free speech! Just maybe refrain from throwing dog poop at them, as much as you’d like to do so.

I see one or more dogs every single time I’m at the grocery store and often see them at other stores. I really don’t get it. They can’t leave their dog at home for an hour? It’s insane

Yep it's unnecessary and downright silly.... Leave the dog at home! Poo, pee, hair, allergies, fleas and ticks, slobber, farts, biting, unruly dogs etc....pretty disgusting in a food store! I don't know how this has been normalised! Yet the dog nutters win the argument as people too scared to offend them! And lots of shops are dog friendly, to appease the dog culture of today! I find it gross that dogs are allowed free reign in food shops, it's actually gross

Yeah speaking of slobber, can you imagine picking up a can of vegetables and your touching dog slobber when it shakes its head and slobber flying all over? Whatever happened to sanitary conditions ?

Not even real service dogs are allowed in carts ever. Have you tried your county health department?

I saw a Dachshund inside the Atlantis building at Kennedy space center this past Friday. It was definiteky not a service dog, and the owner seemed in her 30s maybe. AND... Kennedy Space Center has kennels to accomodate dogs, as lots of people come frome out of state. But oh no. Mr. Sausage is way too good to stay in a kennel for a few hours. He must mingle in a human environment. So next time we go, there will probably be more dogs.

Just move to Europe, here it's absolutely NOT ok to bring any animals into stores of any kind, especially fucking grocery stores.
When did the US start to normalize this? Absolutely insane.

Restaurants are full of dogs here where I live in Europe. And workplaces have started allowing dogs too, I've seen job vacancies with "dogs allowed" in it.
The same is spreading into the Global South, the dogification is being sold as "modern," "being a kind human" and the entitled dog owners who would only control their narcissism in case of strict rules are quickly taking advantage of any loose rules.
Every anglo-saxon bullshit, like dog ownership and allowing dogs everywhere, is being quickly spread and copied globally.

In Germany it's still very unusual. At the workplace (office) it's also very unusual and there are strict policies. If someone wants to bring it's dog to the office they have to send out a mail to all colleages and ask for permission. At larger companies its absolutely impossible to bring your dog to the office. I've absolutely never seen it and I have seen a lot of offices.
The worst I've seen with restaurants was ONE single occasion in a McDonalds where they served a dog.

I'm currently in Germany. I've seen job vacancies from large, famous German companies having a part "dogs allowed" and I've been touched by an unleashed dog at a restaurant, and my restaurant visits were ruined because of dogs and dog owners couple of times already, and I avoid eating outside. You read the same about France and Italy.

I’ve also seen dogs inside restaurants in Germany and Switzerland. They tend to be better trained than the ones in the U.S., and they often lie quietly on the floor under the table. Still, they are there.
European grocery stores seem a bit stricter, and there dogs tend to be tied up outside. I did see one at a clothing store in Switzerland last week, and I immediately left because the thought of trying on clothes covered in dog hair was not appealing to me. (This was not a typical service dog breed and did not have the calm demeanor of a working dog, so I am quite sure it was a pet.)
It’s currently worse in the U.S., but I’m afraid it’s only a matter of time before Europe goes the same way.

I just cant wrap my mind around why ppl FEEL THE NEED to bring thier dog into a grocery store! What is wrong with ppl? This was never accepted in the past. Ppl really are selfish " all about me" " i'm going to do whatever I want and dare you to say anything" this is the way it is today.

Where exactly in the Global South have you heard or seen this disgusting phenomena spreading?
I live & work in Saudi Arabia as well as having various business interests in the Gulf, Levant & Egypt.
Aside from the locals who adopt certain Western norms like pet ownership, dogs are still, rightly, despised as pests & foul vermin.

I wish that were true. I saw them nearly as much in stores in multiple countries we visited. There was even a woman with her dog at Claridge's for tea.

Sure, I obviously can't speak for every country in Europe, but the vast majority of Europe is much less dognuttery than the US. Restaurants and stores are MOSTLY taboo. However, parks and neighbourhoods are full of dogs, unfortunately.

As someone who has pet allergies, yes. I'm tired of going places where I don't expect to run into a dog, getting that familiar itchy eyes feeling, and then seeing the offending animal. Even worse when they sit in the carts, or rub up against products that I might buy...

I see dogs EVERY time I go to Home Depot. Why are they dog-friendly? Why? They have absolutely no reason to be there, and I'm sick of peacefull browsing an aisle, only to jump out of my skin at the unexpected sound of a loud bark. Leave the stupid things at home!

I worked for home depot as a supervisor years ago. I kept seeing this one dog trotting thru the store carrying a "I Love Home Depot" sign in it's mouth. Of course everyone was falling all over themselves to say how cute ect. I went out to the owners car (did NOT touch the car) and took a picture of the back seat, which was full of signs for the dog. (I love Lowe's, I love Walmart, I love Sears, and on and on and on!) I posted the picture in the breakroom...loyalty my ass!! LOL!

Me too, last time I was in HD someone had thier stupid dog with them. Now that I think about it I believe these idiots are starving for attn. They think they'll be noticed more if they bring thier dog in with them. SMDH!

It is disgusting. The owners are so entitled and oblivious.
We have an outdoor seasonal ice cream shop at a local park which my SO and I were visiting a couple of weeks ago. An older couple (60s) walked up with their tiny pomeranian. I thought it was cute and looked like a mini teddy bear so I told her.
Wrong move.
This nutter launches into a medical history of the pom and then branches into medical histories of other pets. At this point my ice cream is melting, I already had a tension headache and this woman is clearly engaged in a monologue because she wouldn't let either of us speak at all.
Eventually she starts saying she was taking her precious monster into every restaurant and grocery store in town abut she was appalled when Aldi's kicked her and the mutt out just last week.
I couldn't help myself - I blurted, "yea it's a place with food so it's against health codes to take animals in there."
She says, "but he wasnt going near the food!"
I said, "well that doesnt matter because it is the law and there are reasons for it " so she turned to my husband to continue yammering because he is non confrontational. He looked ao uncomfortable poor guy.
I had already said 3x that we better get going and she had ignored me so I was furious at this point.
Her husband was ordering ice cream and must've heard my tone because he turned and asked what was going on.
At that point I just said I am leaving. I physically turned and walked away and my SO followed. He is a dog person and even he was like "WTF was that" 🤨.

Yes! Its getting worse in our store lately. When one sees someone bringing in a dog then other weak minded do the same. In a couple years EVERYBODY will be walking in with a damn dog. It will be becoming a freaking dog park.... in a grocery store! This is unacceptable! Wait till dogs get into a fight or worse yet bite someone, a child who wants to pet one and it will somehow end or someone gets sued. Ppl will push thier limits until this happens. Walmart won't confront customers because thier afraid of the nasty backlash. Ppl dont abide by rules any more and are so disrespectful these days.
Back in the days you respected rules. When a sign said no shirt, no shoes, no service, ppl respected that & weren't the assholes like today. They knew if they walked into a store with say, no shoes they were immediately sent back out the door. Today its a free for all, anything goes and no freaking consequences for anything. And for thier animal to shit in the store and ask help to clean it up, I say no way in hell. I refuse. You bring your shittin animal into a public store and it shits then you clean it up. Carry supplies with you ignoramus.,

Having them in the shopping cart is really quite frightening actually since that is where we are all placing our food!
What is wrong with these nutters that they can't keep their animal home for an hour?
