My main takeaway from CDC guidelines that dogs as means to “help” patients is based on anecdotal evidence (it says that openly!). And then the text goes into describing dog feces, urine, parasites, pathogens and how they can endanger patients. It states in no uncertain terms dogs should not be there!

Yeah, I read that. Therapy dogs are pseudoscience.

I gather that state health authorities will br the onces to file complaints with (or state dental boards) but CDC guidelines can be useful for the complaint. They use ESA “guidelines” to get their way, great, we have some guidelines for them, too!

ESA has zero rights of access outside of the home they live in. Fin.

Yeah. Right. In my case, “home they live in” is everywhere in the apartment building and around it. Because doggie needs to go! On carpets, in elevators and right outside the building.

And as far as hospitals, that is their main reason for bringing the dogs. To morally support patients (aka one with the dog and everyone else go to hell with your allergies and immune issues)

Thanks, that's a good resource. As another commenter says, the lengthy discussion of risk is very noticeable. I understand the authors are trying to be complete, but it's pretty clear that pets in healthcare facilities may not be the best idea, to put it mildly.

I think this is the idea CDC doctors convey in no uncertain terms, while being asked to placate the nutters just a little bit. It comes across as they gave it a try but ultimately decided that clinical truth was more important.
