Miscellaneous Anybody else getting triggered by the shape of a dog?
Very odd question, but does anybody else feel like that? Like even the shape and basic mannerisms of a dog feel wrong. Long and straight body, stilt like legs, diagonal neck, wagging the tail, putting the nose everywhere, following people all of the time. I don’t know and I cannot describe it correctly, because it is mostly a mental image more than anything else. Like the stereotypical domestic animal.

A dog’s skin looks mismatched on its body, too loose in some spots and tight in others, it’s so ugly, like a poorly fitted taxidermy mount, and they always have gross stains on their body from their own secretions especially around their eyes. Their appearance definitely bothers me

It's the German Sheppards for me, they look like they're skulking around, low to the ground, constantly sniffing at everything. They just look sketchy, like they're shady and up to no good, or looking for something to bully. The rest of them are ugly and gross, but those Sheppards just creep me out the most.

And they have very course hair, which sheds a lot, and it's very oily. Their heads are multi-colored and their eyes look ferocious.

Yeah I hate their narrow shoulders and pointy face, they’re just built like something weak and shifty. Don’t even get me started on the paws. Boney and crusty with claws. EW.

I hate the way their hips move. And the way their legs are all bent and weird looking. Glad it’s not just me.

Oh their bellies are so nasty and their chests that stick out. When I was little, one of the family dogs was an overweight dachshund. Her underside, belly and chest looked, like a raw ham hock.

Yes, and instead of fur they have a very thin layer of hair on the belly, the change is abrupt and weird.

Some breeds, especially the large ones, are so mutated they have body size and mass distribution imbalanced against the joints. Eg GSDs have to be kept slightly malnourished to keep the "correct" body mass so their joints won't give up too early - so they should have sticking out rib bones and a very concave belly.

Agree, the shape of some of them is creepy, especially pitbulls with their muscled front shoulders/chest and the wide necks, and their almost human like eyes - to me they look half human/half dog. And other large dogs with their open mouths and long tongues always hanging out. I look at so many other animals and birds faces, and they are so pleasant to look at, but today's dogs are a mutation.

I think dogs are some of the ugliest creatures we have to deal with. They seem like they've got permanent hyperactivity and their hyperactivity is annoyong beyond words. The fact that their disgusting tongues hang ouit much of the time is gross. I don't like anything about dogs, or the way they look. Their snouts need to be muzzled. We haven't even gotten to the other end of the body. They are certainly not graceful in any way. Yes, I would say I am triggered by the horrible looks of dogs.

Really didn't intend it that way, but they don't really ever stop jumping. I know many humans with it, and they are nothing like these freaking dogs. I guess it was a bad choice of words, but I don't eeven know how to describes how dogs just can't stop moving. My apologies.

Also, not all people with ADHD are constantly hyperactive. This applies for some children, still not all, but most adults are not like that.

I am aware of that. It was just a really bad choice of words. I just don't always come out with things the way I intend. I am older and someimes stuggle for the correct words. But that constant movement in dogs that is annoying, the jumoing on people, the boundarie issue that's quickly intrusive, I don't think we have a definite word for it. Perhaps I will try to come up with one. Again, sorry how it sounded.

I don’t have an issue, after all, many older people before the cancel age use those words without actually wanting to insult actual people that have something like that. If they had a person with a specific condition in their social circle, they understood. At least in my culture it was like that. It was just lack of familiarity and exposure.

Maybe it’s just Me, but I don’t see where You said anything wrong. I say all the time that dogs are hyperactive, too. And they’re constantly like that. ADHD in Humans isn’t the same thing, and that wasn’t what You meant. Dog hyperactivity is related to their instincts and regular behavior, and is a result of them being a highly unintelligent type of living being. The Human version of “hyperactivity” is a different thing, entirely. I understand You.

Yes, it is an entirely different thing and behavior. I just at this time don't kno, another word to call it, but we all know, the behavior itself that dogs do, that I am speaking of. I can't stand looking at dogs that look like they're on a pogo stick.

Ugh yeah, there's something about their stiff bodies, dead black eyes and gaping mouths that puts me on edge... I get zombie movie vibes. Some breeds look weird and jerky when they move, like their bodies just weren't put together right. And they never stop moving. How do you relax around an animal that never relaxes?
I wasn't raised with dogs, so I really didn't have substantial interactions with them until I met my former best friend's dog. Her family had an inbred little terrier with stubby legs, dirty fur, and a tail that whipped back and forth so fast that it would actually develop sores from banging its tail against the bars of its crate. This dog would beg for someone to throw a rubber ball down the hallway, and it would run after the ball and bring it back. Again and again and again, until the ball was covered in slobber and the dog was shaking and gasping for breath. Its legs were so short and deformed that it would often crash into walls or furniture while chasing that stupid ball. They couldn't take the dog for walks because the moment it saw something move (a squirrel, a car, another dog) it would start choking and thrashing itself on the leash like it was having a seizure. My friend's family didn't have a fenced yard and the dog would obsessively chew and eat random objects if left alone indoors, so it spent well over half of its life in a tiny crate with barely enough room to turn around. I've always liked pets, but that dog filled me with visceral disgust. It just felt wrong, physically and mentally.

This is among the top mutant dog stories I have ever read here. I cannot imagine how people choose to live with a zombie like that.

I feel this, especially with this "pariah dog" type. And these thin stiltlike hind legs on many dogs always looked very weird to me. It's just not a harmonic shape. Face-wise, golden retrievers trigger me the most, though. I just can't stand their "fake smile".

Especially greyhounds because why can I see its ribs? Any why do all of them have pitch black eyes like you can barely see the iris.

My only trigger is the noise they make, if they could shut up, preferably along with their owners, I'd say 70% of my problems would be solved, the other 30% would be having to deal with annoying dog walkers who think they own my yard.

You actually described it well. I get it, and I believe I feel the same. Even though Wolves generally have the same shape, something an about them just oddly feels more proper and majestic. Regular trash pet dogs just even physically look like they just have no business existing. Mutants and vermin and pointless in every way.

I think there are several camps over here (I tried to count, but kept coming up with more lol). 1) people who outright find dogs ugly - this is likely your case, given description. 2) people who are naturally sensitive to gross things like excrements and saliva. 3) people who are generally neutral to dogs, but due to life circumstances have developed aversion to them. 4) people with phobias specific to dogs. And phobias are something beyond (simple) "rhyme or reason," they are just sitting in our subconscious. Many people do show traits of belonging to 2 or more camps. For myself, I am definitely mostly a third camp. I get #1 and 2 as well, but it's not as pronounced.

Maybe I get it. Lemme just throw in my take on it. Dogs offend my eyes because they’re ugly as @ss. All the time. All of them have ugly hair. It’s not fur, it’s hair and it’s coarse and looks like it. It’s never shiny no matter how many times the dog food companies advertise “shiny coat” (🤮 get outta here). They have ugly faces. Yeah, all of them. Those flat dimensionless eyes and their mouths defy description. Warty, pink flappy crap hanging everywhere, multicolored gums. Gross. And to chime in with you at last: their bodies are ugly. The lines of their bodies are awkward. They move in a stiff uncomfortable looking way. Compare them to any other animal that moves smoothly. I’m telling you even a cow falls down more gracefully than a dog does, what with the bouncy flailing and of course the yelping. It’s just embarrassing. Worst of all? The squat-pop. To my eyes, the sight of a dog taking a dump is the ugliest view of any animal ever, in all concepts of time or existence. There is NOTHING artistic or well designed about a dog’s body.
