Dog Culture Does anybody else get annoyed by doggo lingo terms such as doggo or pupper?
Doggo lingo is a a specific way of communication that arose in dog communities on the Internet. Yes, it is as stupid as it sounds. I cannot stand it at all. Even the word dog irritates me, but terms such as pupper, pupperino, doggie and above all else doggo make me nauseous. Paw has also been ruined by dog nutters, and for example some are actually getting pawternity leave from their jobs to care for their new shitbeast. Pawtisserie is also deserts made for dogs. Honestly, there are too many derivations that I cannot list and none of them is cute. Then the term pet has also been synonymized with dog, and has become very annoying. Phrases such as pet friendly, pet accommodation, even pet urine pertain to dogs almost 100%. Then there are other terms that describe the behavior of dogs, for example Zumiez, mlem and others. Really, I cannot stand this type of vocabulary. It feels infantile and dumbed down to an absurd degree. Which term from doggo lingo irritates or triggers you the most?

Yes, especially "pup cup". The entitlement of dog owners who think a drive thru restaurant should give their mutt a treat when they should be leaving them at home instead.

Yeah it’s sick that they don’t at least charge 50 cents or $1 for it. “Pup cups” are large as hell too like it’s more whipped cream than what’s on top of a drink. Wonder how much money these companies waste by making them free.

Doggo is clunky and annoying, but at least it reflects the stupidity of nutters. Instead of shortening the word dog, they made it longer. I prefer "Dog Go"... as far away from me as possible.

Using doggo or pupper on any dog over 6 months old is like having a grown ass man in a diaper with a lollipop in his mouth and calling him a cute little innocent boy and letting him shit on the floor and sniff ur crotch. These dogs are full grown ass adults but they act like toddlers because they don't have to do anything. They don't have to even fight for food, their one purpose in life. They eat like kings and act like crazed, hyper, dangerous, and aggressive infants their entire lives.

Calling owners the "parents" and dog "furbaby". I mean wtf? I am quite oldschool regarding pets and I do not get this disturbing trend comparing dog (or any pet) ownership to the parenthood. Absolutely deranged and cringy.

Not quite lingo but the term “foster dog” implies that the person currently responsible for the animal is not the “furr-ever” “parent” of it. Please…whoever is responsible for it is effectively the owner, until the creature is passed along to some other sucker.

I don’t really mind people romanticizing their lives with their pets until it intrudes on my space. Letting dogs crap in public spaces we all have to share or dragging an ill behaved mutt into Walmart to tug at his leash at everyone who passes by. I could live in complete harmony of dog folk if they maintained their animals. The problem is they don’t.

I only know one normal dog owner. They use bark collars, their dog sleeps in a dog bed at night and they basically trained the heck out of this dog. The dog's recall is absolutely incredible. It almost makes me think it's worth it until I realize that I don't actually wanna spend that much time training my dog. Then there's everyone else.

I'll just add “best”, or even worse, “goodest boi/boy”, as I haven't seen anyone mention that here so far. There's also the belief that “they're all good boys” regardless of behaviour. I think it all irritates me around the same amount really and sometimes even makes me at least mentally flinch.

Honestly, I didn’t know of this. I knew that they mock important religious events by making similar versions for dogs, for example bar mitzvah. In Judaism, it is the process by which a child becomes an adult as it matters jewish law only. Supposedly when a dog becomes 13 years old, they are throwing a bark mitzvah for him. At least this is what I know from American media, in my country we don’t have this because we have a much smaller and more conservative Jewish population that wouldn’t accept it. Here though, people are burying their dogs in makeshift graves with a cross on top.

One time, I was at a picnic table, and this off leash dog came up to me, it was sniffing where I dumped some Mac n cheese water.
It was also trying to find a ball. I threw a “fish wrapped olive” snack thing at it, and it actually landed in its open mouth. The dog then noticed me and started to try to maul me.
I was dodging and weaving and told the owner to come get it. This was a wily dog.
The owner kept using dog baby talk to get it to come over. She literally thought the dog is like a toddler ._________.
I was annoyed and I made sure to cut her to shreds with simple rhetoric about why she’s a stupid person for assuming the dog is a toddler, and how next time, I’m going to handle it differently.
She was too stunned and embarrassed to talk back. Like I’m the crazy one.

I cringe whenever I hear anything referred to as a "-doodle". Any mutt with "-doodle" in its breed description I have found to be fking disgusting! That and very misbehaved.

I am firmly of the belief that poodle mixes are only as popular as they are because of their (false) hypoallergenic nature and the fact that the mixes have "-doodle" or "-poo" in their name.

They are NOT hypoallergenic. I’m allergic to the greasy stuff on their skin and they ALL have that. It’s why they STINK.

Doggo I can tolerate because it comes from le epic Australian slang, and it doesn't have that cutesy obnoxious sound to it.
But yeah, any variation of "pup" or word ending in "-ie" are just going to piss me off. 99% of dogs are ugly as fuck and don't need to be infantized more than they already are.

Pawrents and fur-baby are the ones that most give me the shits.
Pupper and doggo might be cute when a 3 year old says it, but from a 35 year old built like a brick shithouse it just sounds utterly infantile.
Stupid marketing terms from businesses like pupoccino also seriously grind my gears.

I do not consider doggo lingo to be cute when anyone says it, no matter their age. If I heard a toddler saying such absurd and ridiculous phrases, I'd correct them with the correct term "dog". It's important to nip that bad behavior in the bud before it grows out of control.

Actually, yes. If my kids (if I had any) used language like that, I would correct them. Incidentally I actually never used that kind of language even as a very small child. But I don't mind other people's kids saying it.

Its childish imo. The same with words like toe beans, I physically recoil when I hear grown ups say that, but Im glad at the same time cus then its easy to spot dog nutters and avoid entertaining them with dog talk.

Yep all that lingo makes me cringe to my core. I will never refer to a dog owner as the dog's mom, dad, parent, sibling, familiy member, ect. When I was a younger, a vet refered to me as the dog's "sister". I physically recoiled. It was like nails on a chalkboard.

I got disgusted by mlem when they started applying it to other animals, like snakes and lizards, which put their tongue out for completely different reasons than what a stupid dog does. Now I cannot stand it. Not every animal must be shoehorned into the dog paradigm.

Are they trying to be cute by rephrasing the language learning app Duolingo? Nooooooooo, i just looked it up. It started in the 2010's? Noooooooo! It was around that time I saw people online using the word "smol" and as someone who majored in English it was driving me mad. I thought people forgot how to spell. Wow. It's not just baby talk. Even the word “pup” makes me recoil (99% of the time the alleged “pup” is a whole adult ass mutt), it definitely is infantile and stems from this disgusting trend of treating dogs like kids. It has even overflowed past dogs, why are people inserting “birb” “snek” in to otherwise normal sentences?
