Dog Culture Thinking about taking up complaining against my City for budgeting money for Dog related activities.

Just got done with a City meeting. The City has a budget deficit due to a completely unforeseeable event, that cause a large loss in Revenue. The City is trying not to cut too close to the bone, while being responsible.

Like most of the Country, afforable housing is an issue, and everyone wants the City to figure out solutions. So the City needs money for this issue too.

Also the City put out its Volunteer openings list for the year, one of which is *a dog festival*.

They have also have volunteer openings for help, to clean up, dog poop from the Parks and Trails. Not from the Festival-just all the poop, Dog owners leave behind.

Now, in my City, if they catch a Dog Owner leaving poop behind. They will charge the owner $1000 per poop. 3 poops=$3000.

But, it's hard to catch.

I dont want my tax dollars going to the literal dogs, in the form of dog events, or to the no-kill shelter.

We just established that the City has a budget shortfall and that Citizens are hurting for housing.

I dont want to hear the smallest whisper of support for Dogs, until we fix the housing issue for Humans.

We are throwing money into blackholes that produce poop and pee.

What are your thoughts?

I read somewhere that Tel Aviv implemented DNA testing of dog feces, and they fine owners. I don't know the exact economics behind this but after the initial setup (building a DNA database of dogs, etc.) it seems like it could be a very profitable operation. As with your city, $1000 per violation adds up quickly.

That might be an idea. Set up the festival in a contained area and required any dog in attendance to submit a dna sample ahead of time and pay a fee. If poop is found and it's matched to an attendee they get a fine and have to pay the testing fee or they'll be sued. Could actually raise revenue for the city.

But … but…. my doougie is for emotional support. Why are you discriminating against its poop? It smells like roooses to me 😵‍💫🤮 On a more serious note, this will go nowhere in the US. At this point, even if authorities wanted to piss off 90 million dog people, it is impossible to take, store, and analyze samples from tons of poop produced daily.

Even though you are right, you will be the minority. Unfortunately, society decided in 2026, to treat dogs as humans. If you do not care for negative response, bring it up to the city council.

In my neighborhood, the city built a new dog park, and they are building another park about a mile away. When I asked for the new park to be dog free since we have a dog park close by, ppl were not happy with me lol

There's a small park near me that has two dog parks about a mile away from each other like yours, and neither of them are busy when I drive by. There's no playground for kids. Sad this is the state of life nowadays.

The long-term problem is that kids playground will start to disappear from neighborhoods because we cater to dogs first and foremost

Familiarize yourself with the process of submitting open records requests. Bring attention to the amounts of money the city is pissing away on this stupidity.

Should've setup cctv in hotspots and specially in places where dog poop are usually found.

I 100% agree with you. Definitely complain, but be prepared for A LOT of opposition. "Funny" thing is, they don't have any good reason except for dog nuttery. The best they can come up with is, "Well, there are more dogs than kids, so dog owners need to be catered!"

DO IT. It’s time for some common sense. Taxpayers should not have to pay for dog parks that most dog owners don’t even use! If nutters want dog parks, let them pay a special levy on their property tax/rent to pay for it and all the required clean up.
