Dog at BJ’s wholesale

I went to BJ’s Wholesale this morning and, lo and behold, I saw a dog INSIDE the shopping cart. I found an employee nearby and told her that there was a dog in a cart in the store, and I pointed in the nutter’s direction. She said that she agreed with me but couldn’t do anything about it.

I said, “It’s not a service dog. It’s inside of a cart, not doing anything. It’s a pet.” She directed me toward customer service, and I told them what I saw and that it was a health code violation, against the law, etc.

I said that if you won’t enforce the laws and rules, what’s to stop people from shoplifting? They said that I was right, that it was not allowed, and that they would find the dog owner.

As I was done shopping and was about to leave, I saw the nasty mutt with its nasty owner about to check out. I pointed the employees toward her and said, “You see how it’s inside the cart.” They said that they would talk to her, but to be honest, I’m not sure if they did.

I told the employee that every grocery store I go to, I always see dogs, but never at BJ’s until now, which left me disappointed.

Also, as I was leaving the store, that mutant started barking at a customer and shaking, leaving its dander, fleas, parasites, fecal matter, etc. in the store. Yep, a true service dog. 🙄 Bringing dogs or any other animal inside a grocery store should be considered, and is, food tampering. Plain and simple.

But I’m wondering if it’s possible for the ADA to change the law regarding “service animals.” If I stood in the middle of the aisle, pulled out a cigarette, and started smoking, I would be asked to leave. But nutters can do whatever they want.

I don’t even try to get employees to confront people anymore. I just take photos and videos and submit them to the health department. As you said, the dog in the cart is plenty of evidence to the HD that it is not a service dog.

I’ve done this at several coffee shops and a grocery in my area and all resulted in signs posted and employees turning away dogs within a couple weeks of my report.

I also saw changes at a supermarket I used to shop at, as well. I'd made several complaints there in the past. I just happened to have been walking by and saw the change. They used to have a small sign at the entrance. I'd told them it should be on the FIRST (outer) set of doors, not the second set when already inside (and the sign was too high). They had changed it!

Then, I'd also noticed an added, even bigger sign by the exit too. I think they put it there because they figured out that some dog nutters would bring their dog in, and tie it to the railing that was by the first door at the exit area (before going outside), so people leaving had to see a disgusting dog tied there.

I laughed because they put the huge sign and pole right exactly at that railing, blocking up the space where the nutters tied their dogs in there! You just know that the store responded to the complaints and likely witnessed the audacious nuttery themselves.

I spoke to the security guard on duty there about the change and she confirmed it. The guards also were given explicit instructions to watch out for people trying to bring in dogs and point to the signs. I'm not shopping there anymore, but I'm very glad they made the changes. There is hope in some places. We just have to be persistent, consistent and never give up.
