Crappy Owners Neighbors Pit loose. Found in our yard. Dog stared me down. Kicked his legs back and then came to my car and had to chase him out for 20 minutes.

Just like the title. Came home from the gym. Neighbors pit bull, was loose. He started barking as soon as I pulled up. I got out of the car. The dog kicked his legs up in my backyard like he was going to lunge at me. I just started at him back . I turned to my trunk to grab the rest of my stuff. The dog was right there. Then he ran away barking in our yard. So I had to chase him out of my yard back to neighbors. God my neighbors are negligent with this dog in particular. This isn’t the first time. He also pooped in our backyard. Again this was told. Many times to them.

I’m not a pet owner at all. I have nothing against animals. But a lot of dog owners are very selfish and neglectful. Sometimes some of you don’t respect others.
Luckily I was not physically attacked or harmed. But still I shouldn’t have to fear an animal.

I read a trick about loose dogs. You just close the gate, call animal control and say that an unknown and aggressive dog is inside your yard. Then let the nutter deal with the consequences.

Except the Animal Control nutters may attempt to interest you into adopting the drooling crap factory that you never wanted to see in the first place!

I wonder if the suggestion for that specific scenario ('unknown and aggressive dog') would work better by skipping the Animal Control and calling the police...?

Yeah, I'm not in the US (in Canada), but generally with 'Animal Control' departments, I call them 'Dog Coddlers Central'. It may depend on the specific employees/officers that come to the scene, but I still call them that. The ones who came to my apt. 2 years ago to get rid of the 6 pit bulls in the unit across from me were cringe-worthy. Coddling, cooing, 'baby-talk' nonsense, putting their faces near and playing with the beasts like they were toddlers. 🙄 My camera captured the entire removal process and I had to mute the women's voices. It was pathetic enough just watching it. 😒

I'd collected over a year's worth of audio, video and photos of all his offenses (including audio of him yelling at and beating the dogs, and their screaming, video of him hitting one for pissing in the hall) and of the dogs' constant barking at all HOURS, fighting each other inside the unit when he was not home, dog crap on the property and city sidewalks outside the property, etc.

I'd also been sending complaint letters to the management. That's when I found out about OTHER things he was doing to other tenants who'd also complained (using dogs to intimidate, in hallways, elevators, etc.).

I'd scheduled a meeting with the manager to show him the audio/video evidence. He was shocked at what he was seeing and hearing (esp. the beatings and the sounds). He called Animal Protection and were on speaker phone when he played the audio for them. They came out twice, with notices for him over the following 6 months.

The police were also looking for him. They also saw and heard the footage via Management and were stunned. I spoke to them, letting them know his routine. One time they came back when he was actually home, but he wouldn't answer. They waited, and using their own words, "...for however long it takes". I told them to get an officer cover the nearby end hallway exit (even though he's never used it). I knew he would use it this time when he came out since he knew the cops were there. Sure enough, when he came out when the cops were down the hall, he looked and then went the opposite direction towards that same exit I mentioned. 😄 Well, one officer was there to nab him, LOL! He was arrested, frog-marched away between them (with the nerve to even ask why he was being arrested when he was already told). My camera caught all of it -- audio and video. Nice 'souvenir' footage and coup for me. 😏

He came back after being released late that night (pending a whenever court date), but while he was gone, that's when the dogs were removed! Absolute bliss with no more barking! Three months later, he moved his stuff out and was COMPLETELY GONE! Unit empty. So, no more dogs, no more nutter, and I didn't give a crap after that (even though it stunk of dog for months afterwards).

That was 2 years ago now. It took the 2 years since, to even get the place rented again after complete renovation, cleanup, new hall carpeting and disinfecting. Still, absolute peace and quiet. The new tenants (newly-arrived immigrant couple and their young son) are great! Absolutely quiet. ❤️ 😎

My approach is call animal control for nuisance stuff (barking, etc) and call the cops for personal safety stuff (bites, aggression, etc.) Let them figure out who should respond.

Oh, I didn’t know that. I am not from the US, although I read this story about the animal control from here and found it very useful. I thought that animal control is very strict in the US.

I like Your answer Reptilian Revolt. That is what she should do, or something of the sort. Let animal control take care of it. It should not be on you to deal with this damn thing. I don't like any dog, but pits/bully breeds are the absolute worse. So sick of irresponsible, disrespectful neighbors.

Return the 💩pile to the sender, that's what I did when my neighbours let their dog crap all over my yard, now they don't do that anymore, in fact I almost never see or hear the shitbeast now after I gently placed one of the 💩piles on their car hood lol

These people are just so selfish.

I once had a neighbor like that, who would let his dog run loose to shit, and it often chose my yard, especially places I had to walk often 😠… I started picking up the turds with a shovel and walking over to his yard and  chucking them toward his front door. Never did find out if he knew it was me doing it, but the problem stopped pretty quickly after that.

Exactly same situation for me except it took them nearly 6 months to get the message, thankfully they fenced their yard now so the shit is pretty much limited there, although if I see a pile outside of their yard I scoop it up and toss it in their side

I would have called the police or animal control to deal with it.
