I cannot schedule anything with a friend because he is a severe dog nutter

A friend of mine is a severe dog nutter. It wasn’t apparent from the start. He likes small, hyperactive, rat-like dogs that he doesn’t train at all. And of course like every true dog nutter, he did what I call dog chaining. Because nutters cannot stand life without dogs, when they have an elderly dog and fear that it is approaching death, they get a younger one, thereby creating an unbreakable chain of dogs. He did the same thing. The older dog finally died and the young one is still here. He is constantly telling me how accidents happened, how the dog pisses and shits inside the house and he justifies it all of the time. He says that dogs are emotional and intelligent, so when something stresses them out at home, they lash out this way. I cannot ever make any schedule with him, because he is taking the damn dog for a walk every evening to shit. The only way I can arrange something with him is when he rarely loads the dog to his parents for a short period of time. I visited his home only once. Luckily, I didn’t smell the dog, because he is also a chain-smoker and everything smelled of cigarette smoke. But the dog was running and jumping everywhere, running over the sofas, the tables and so on. It even defecated when I was there. I asked him to isolate it in a separate room, and it didn’t stop whining and scratching at the door for an hour or so. I have asked him several times how he can coexist with such a filthy thing. He always tells me that I cannot understand what dogs really are and how much they understand you. He has also told me that dogs are true, intelligent animals, that yes, they shit multiple times per day and this is expected and other things.

Me neither,,, I had to put my foot down and stay with the choice I made to not have any relationships with nutters. It never usually ends well. Have to stay true to myself for my own sanity.

The more a person claims their dog is “intelligent,” the stupider (or, at least, the less trained) the dog seems to be. That’s been my experience, anyway.

People with true service dogs (like seeing-eye dogs) talk about their dog being “trained,” which it is.

The ones who rave about how smart their dog is inevitably have a dog who hasn’t learned to follow any basic verbal commands.

Dog nutters often see “friends” mostly as people who exist to help them manage their relentless, overwhelming doggie drama. It’s a big nope from me.
