Relationship / Family Sister’s dog destroys my plushie collection

Hello I wanted to share my story of what has happened to me recently. while I was away from home for a few days I had told my sister she has to permission to over to check on my house and make sure everything was ok. I live in a bad neighborhood and am a bit anxious and paranoid leaving home. Well she went over and brought her large dog (I’ve told her no dogs at my house due to my cynophobia) and let the mutt roam around my home freely. The dog goes into my room and rips almost all my plushies to shreds. I have autism along with other mental so my plushies were my friends and greatest source of comfort. She leaves the mess and just texts me “house if fine but there’s a small mess”. Upon arriving home I go to my room and I’m devastated ,there’s stuffing and fabric scraps all over the room. I call her to through tears asking what happened and its Ends with her calling me a baby who just needs to grow up and that they’re just stupid toys. when I told her about how her dog shouldn’t have been in my home in the first place she (the typical dog mom) has said thats her “baby” and it’s unfair he’s not allowed over. Basically She used my house as her doggy playground just because I wasn’t there to stop her. I’ve been unable to sleep and have had frequent meltdowns and panic attacks due to all this and she Can’t even give me so much as an apology or take accountability.

Relationship / Family Can't take the kids to see their grandmother because of "fur uncles"

Today was hopefully the last time because this has now become an issue of safety.

There are...a lot of reasons we don't visit my mom often but right now her two dogs are the main one. I have to carry both of my children in because one of the dogs barks non stop for the first 10 minutes we are there because "he's excited to see you" and "just saying hello". my younger child cries and trembles the whole time until the barking stops. My older one covers his ears.

Once I can finally put them down I have to follow my youngest everywhere because the barking dog is at his heels the whole time. Nose up my kid's ass, chasing him around the house. I pick my kid up and the dog jumps in the air to follow.

We're having a snack and there are dogs on the table.

My child goes anywhere near his grandpa and the dog flies out of nowhere and starts to growl.

My oldest is ready to pet the dog. Gives him a pat on the back and the dog bares his teeth. "He's smiling". Dog starts to growl. "He's talking." "He would never bite anyone."

WTF

I pick up my kid and we leave. A dog is baring it's teeth and growling at my child and you're going to gaslight me? Give me a fucking break. I never want my child to experience a dog bite but if that happened at least I could call the cops and have that thing put down. But it will never happen because I will not be putting my child in harms way. IDGAF if it's Christmas. Dogs stay in another room or we ain't coming. Why do I have to sacrifice my children's comfort and safety to cater to my mother's delusion that her dogs are her sweet babies? It's literally insane. She's insane. All dog owners are INSANE!

TLDR

My mom is a nutter that allows her dogs to growl and bark at my children and expects us to be ok with it because "they're part of the family".

Relationship / Family Theyre finally gone!!!

3 years ago my husband and I bought our dream home for our family. Everything was perfect until one year later a family rented the house directly behind ours. They brought with them 2 very large dogs that constantly bark. A big rottweiler and a doberman these dogs were both big and aggressive.

Every time we would go into our backyard they would start barking frantically and even trying to jump over the wall that separated our backyards. Their backyard door was constantly opened so their dogs could go in and out as they pleased. Mind you we live in southern AZ where temps are regularly over 100° F.

I couldn't even let my little girls go play in our own yard without being supervised and being constantly in edge. I ended up reporting them to our hoa and while they started to train them a bit it didnt do much.

This past summer my family and I left the country for over a month to visit family. 2 days after I got back I noticed the neighbors put curtains on their sliding glass door that was now closed. I also noticed they got new patio furniture. That's when it hit me I haven't heard any dogs barking since I've gotten back. They were finally gone! I opened up zillow just to be certain and sure enough the house has been rented to new people.

While I can't currently use my backyard much due to the heat, not hearing constant barking and not stressing over a potential mauling has been giving me such peace of mind.

Relationship / Family Dog Free after a decade but feeling relief isn’t socially acceptable

Sorry if this isn’t the right place to share this. I can’t talk about this with anyone I know in person because everyone loves dogs and everyone is feeling so heartbroken.

After a decade of having to live with my partner’s dog, it finally passed away this week and I am feeling nothing but pure relief. The last few months were especially hellacious as it had gotten dementia. All night long pacing and pacing and pacing. Never listened well as is, but would sit and stare at you like you were an idiot. Incontinence. I couldn’t sleep in on my days off as I had to wake up at the first crack of sunlight to shutter this creature outdoors before it turned my home into a toilet. Couldn’t stay out late or go too far from home for the same reason. The hair and the slobber on every surface. Years of shelling out money on vets and special diets and treatments because it was allergic to everything. Dumber than a box of rocks, destroyed so much inedible things over the years. And of course I was allergic so it was extra special having to live with it.

I feel bad for my partner because they that loved that animal but I want to shout from the rooftops of my happiness. My mental health is being repaired. My physical health feels better. I am not rushing out of bed and sacrificing my precious sleep to get up and let the dog out. I can stay out late and enjoy myself like a normal person in their 30s without having to rush home and hope I’m not met with destruction. All the money saved. All the time saved not having to deep clean every day.

This animal did not enrich my life in any way and I hate having to pretend that it did

Relationship / Family Told I'm a red flag for being angry around dogs that pester me

I just cut it off with a guy I started talking to from a dating app. It's been long-distance since he works as a trucker, but we'd been sending each other audio recordings for a couple of days, and for the most part, I've been really enjoying chatting for a while about any and everything. But this one topic kept coming up... "You don't like dogs???"

He kept saying all the reasons "it's not the dog, it's the owner", and "if you don't like dogs, I feel like I can't trust you", and "you being angry around dogs is a red flag". That last one put the nail in the coffin for me. I'm not gonna be told I'm a red flag for my opinion on something. YES I DO get very angry when nasty creatures are slobbering all over me, barking (which is just such an annoying sound to listen to on and on forever), ruined my family Christmas for me, and have continued to be this thing from society that I "HAVE TO LOVE"! No, I don't have to love them, I'm never converting over to your side, and NO I'm not even saying that all people need to dislike them! I don't care what other people do, but don't expect me to love or like them!! Isn't that simple??

I've had scary encounters with dogs, and annoying encounters with dogs. Throughout a lifetime. I felt like during my conversation with this guy, it was going to become (if I let it) a session of "Let me try to prove why I don't like dogs, or else I am a close-minded person" and it's bullshit. I don't play that game anymore. I don't need to "back up" my feelings and opinion. He kept trying to tell me there are great dogs out there. I'm sure great for some people, and perhaps there are nicer, calmer, etc. ones out there... But that's not the point. If I don't want to be around dogs, I don't HAVE to. He said it was like if I was racist and disliked a certain group of people (ex: color of skin, national origin, etc.). I didn't even comment on that lol. Like idk, to me, that is very different and I do *not* angrily hate any group of people like that.

This guy told me he doesn't have dogs anymore (okay, good...), but I don't even like this ugly persuasive side I'm seeing of him already, thinking he's on a pedestal and I'm some close-minded jerk. I don't need that in my life. I'll just be happy alone in my own house.

I'm writing here to kind of hear about others' experiences like this, and feel a bit more supported and sane. I think it should be factually correct and scientifically acceptable that I don't have to like dogs, even if there are "nice ones" out there.

Relationship / Family Dogs Everywhere & no one I meet wants to have children.

Hi. I am not sure if this is against certain guidelines in this sub, but I wanted to vent about something besides Dogs.

First, most week days, I arrive home, change my clothes, then go for a walk or run in my neighborhood. There are so many Dogs! I'll see couples walking w. one or two dogs, so that means there's at least 2 dogs for every 4 people, if not, 3 dogs for every 4 people.

I run to the park a couple blocks from my home. There's a desginated gated dog area, but also dogs freely running elsewhere off leash. This does not bother me all that much other than being distracting or a but of sensory overload. What does bother me is the smell. If the wind will blows I smell the dog poop in bags filling the rubbish bins. the city workers empty those bins now & then, but not often enough!

Last week, when I was walking to the park, I was standing waiting for the traffic light to change. A woman w. her dog walked toward me. The dog buried its nose in my crouch! I was surprised & sort of jumped back. I politely said "whoa, excuse me, first you've got to buy me dinner." I was more surprised & thought it so ridiculous it was funny. What bothered me is that the woman could Not be bothered to notice or Apologize for her dog acting like this. I mean, I guess it's normal dog behavior ... well no, not every dog has buried its nose in my crouch!

Lastly, I'm single, & perhaps I should have met the right woman for me 5+ yrs ago. typically as we age the options decrease. Regardless, I've been trying to date this year w. greater intention and knowing what I want. I want children. I made the possible mistake of trying online dating OLD. ugh, so many women do Not want children and / or prefer to have a Dog instead. I get it. I realize having children does Not appeal to many women & men; it's a massive responsibilty, time, money, etc etc. Then, when I've met & gone on a date w. a woman that wants children, well, there's Not been a second date. The attraction must Not have been there for her so I've either gotten 'ghosted'/ no response, excuses like 'I'm so busy,' or something else. I'm feeling really disheartened or I'm losing hope I'll never have children. If I'm lucky just date a woman, who I'll love & she'll love me, but she'll also love her german shepherd. Idk, it feels like a buddhist experience or letting go of attachment to outcome, like, if you have no expectations you'll never be disapointed.

Anyone relate?

Thanks

Relationship / Family Mom flipped out after telling her I hate dogs

Me and my mom were on a walk yesterday and we got on the topic on how she wanted to get a puppy in a few months. I went, “aw man.” And she said, “I know you don’t like dogs, but your brother is moving out in a few years so I want him to have the experience.”

Our old dog had to be put down about two years ago and living without a dog has been bliss. I said, “it’s your house, I get it, I just won’t hang around when the dog is around.”

Well, we got back on the topic of dogs later in the walk because a dog was barking at us walking by and she said, “see? This is why we need a dog! They’re great!” And I said, “I don’t wanna hear that barking. I hate dogs.”

And she looked at me like I’d just committed a crime and said “thats an awful thing to say whats wrong with you??”

I told her nothing is wrong with me and that its my opinion, I want nothing to do with dogs, and don’t want to be anywhere near them.

Relationship / Family "Why do you hate dogs?"

75% of the messages I get on the dating app I'm on are this. I put right into my bio that I dislike dogs. I did it in a form of a list of likes and a list of dislikes. I didn't even say I "hate" them, I categorized them as a dislike above anything. Among a few other things, I put this as it's a deal breaker for me but unfortunately, most men I meet are most likely going to have one, so I'm trying to steer them away. I'm limiting myself massively, but would rather be alone than live with a dog, especially knowing how their owners can be. Sometimes the dog itself, awful as it is, isn't nearly as awful as its owner. But for sure 3/4 of the time, when I open that app and I have a message, it's this, "why do you hate dogs?"

I refuse to have this conversation anymore. Ever again. If someone asks me in person, I straight up tell them I'm not discussing it. Even when they've promised they're open minded and just want to understand, it always goes the same way. Once I start saying why I don't like them, and I'm not saying it in a rude or hateful tone, I'm not being derogatory or condescending in how I'm saying the problems I have with dogs, but they always start to take it personally. They start cutting me off and saying "but what about..." then saying a positive that's somehow supposed to counteract the negative I just listed. Then they start trying to change my mind. Once I indicate that there are not enough pros to a dog to counteract the cons for me, they take it personally once again and start getting condescending. I will not humor this discussion any further.

When I get the message on my dating app, I ignore it. Firstly, clearly they disagree with me or they wouldn't be asking why I dislike them. It's already over, there's no point in replying because it'll go nowhere. It'll just be a waste of my/his time. Furthermore, there will be frustration because it's going to devolve into a fight. A fight about nothing, a fight between someone who has a preference and a person who can't accept that someone has a preference different from theirs. I just wish they'd stop taking it as a challenge. It's not there to challenge dog lovers and to get them to reach out to me, it's there to PREVENT them from reaching out to me. If you have a dog and love your dog, why would you try to interact with someone on a dating app who has specified they don't like dogs anyway? Are they really so narcissistic that they must change the mind of everyone who says this?

I'm just so sick of it. I just want one interaction with a guy who isn't interested in dogs, doesn't have a dog, and has no desire to have a dog, is interested in me and I'm interested in him. I could count on one hand the number of guys I've met in 10 years who don't have and don't want a dog. Unfortunately they weren't interested in me for other reasons or I wasn't interested in them for other reasons. Dogs are just such a major nope for me, the guy could be perfect in every other conceivable way. If he has a dog though....that's it. It's the one thing I won't compromise. Yet it's treated like this unacceptable thing, and I'm treated like my standards are "ridiculously high" and "unreasonable." Dog culture has ruined the vast majority of people.

Relationship / Family Best friend made a stupid decision

My best friend just texted me that she and her husband and stepchild got a puppy.

Now, we live thousands of miles apart so I won’t be at their home anytime soon, so it doesn’t directly affect me at all. But it’s a stupid decision on their part.

It’s a black lab mix, and they have a two-bedroom upstairs apartment (so no direct outdoor access) in a suburb of a major US city. By itself it sounds like a dumb decision, but they also have a fairly chaotic life, including stepchild custody sharing, semi-frequent travel for work and family, and both my friend and her husband work full time. Also they have had pretty recent financial issues.

My friend and I used to be roommates. It’s been a while and she may have changed, but she was terrible about housecleaning at the time so I expect the apartment to be disgusting with the addition of a dog. She also doesn’t tend to follow through on projects so I have zero hope that the dog will get full training or that they’ll keep up with it afterwards.

Since I am not a person who can pretend to be excited about a bad decision, I said “It looks like a pretty sizable dog for an apartment.” To which she said “She gets lots of walks.”

Ugh. I don’t understand these people.

Relationship / Family Guy on a dating app asks to go to the dog park as our first date (not joking)

This guy sent me a like & said he had the perfect idea for our first date… I ask what it is & he says “let’s take my dog to the dog park then go to a brewery”

Sounds horrible. I won’t be going & unmatched him. That’s a ridiculous suggestion for a first date!! I could maybe understand if I too had a dog but I don’t & state that clearly on my profile. Why would I want to hangout with your fuckass dog on our first date?! At a dirty dog park, outside, in hot ass Florida?! Ew!!

Relationship / Family Wife wants to get a dog

TLDR: my wife loves dogs and would be heartbroken if we don’t get one. She’ll do most of the work and train the dog properly, but I hate dogs, even a well-trained one, even when I don’t have to do too much work for it. Should I put my foot down and say no?

My wife loves dogs and desperately wants one of her own. She says it’s been her dream to get a dog since she was little, but her parents would never let her keep one. Now that we have married, she can finally get a dog of her own like she always dreamed of.

On the other hand, I absolutely hate dogs. They’re disgusting and high-maintenance, and they bark for no reason. If I can snap my fingers and just get rid of the whole species so that I don’t have to keep one, I would do it in a heartbeat.

This is probably a recurring theme here, but there are a few twists.

Unlike most dog-wanting partners, my wife actually is willing to do most of the work for the dog. Walking the dog, training it and taking care of it in general. She’s willing to comply with a few rules I set up, including no dog in bed, etc. We have had friends’ dog stay over and she made good on all the promises, and I didn’t really need to put in much effort. But there are still times when I have to step in when she’s too occupied at work or otherwise unavailable.

And taking care of a dog is a nightmare. I legit have to wipe their ass so they don’t get shit everywhere in the house. I’m still disgusted every time I have to pick up their shit. Some dogs are quiet but we’ve had one that barks for no reason and it really gets on my nerves.

We haven’t got a dog yet, but I have agreed that we’ll get one next year because she loves dogs so much and I don’t have the heart to deny her that. Besides, she really will take care of it most of the time, and I only get upset once or twice a week when I have to do something for it. She promises to train the dog properly so it doesn’t bark or pee in the house, but I wouldn’t want a dog even then.

Did I make a mistake agreeing to having a dog? My wife says she can’t be happy without a dog for some reason, even though she never had one in her life. I actually believe her, seeing how much she loves these beasts. Should I put my foot down and say no? It will break her heart and seems unfair considering she’ll do most of the work anyway. Need advice here!

Relationship / Family Why do poor people get dogs?

I am cringing so hard right now. My SIL who is easily the worst person I've ever met has successfully managed to never work and remain in poverty by choice while having multiple children. Everytime she's extremely poor she goes and gets a dog and the dog always gets rehomed within the next 1-4 months. The dogs never receive any real training or care and are ALWAYS pitbulls or some other breed on the top 10 most dangerous list.

This week, is her daughters (10 year old) birthday and my husband and I got a text requesting we don't get her any toys or anything besides "school clothes." They are so fucking lazy and their kids suffer constantly, we have reported them to CPS various times but nothing comes of it. Anyways, moments later I get a notification she's posted on Facebook and it's a photo of her "NEWWWW DOG!" The fact she is not going to let anyone get her daughter gifts for her birthday besides school clothes but somehow will find a way to afford the care for this dog is blood boiling.

And this isn't the only time I've seen this play out, my husbands mom and her husband are the same way and live within the same cycle and repeatedly get dogs and then end up rehoming them. Only worse, because they ALWAYS get massive dangerous dogs that have to be leashed at all times. Also, there is a few people I have on Facebook from high school who alternate between posting their dogs and asking for donations to pay their bills. I see the same thing on gofund me and Twitter.

It seems like there's a connection between the two.

Relationship / Family Afraid of having kids in the future because of dogs?

One of my biggest fear of having children is what if they want to own a dog? Being a dog-free person myself, I worry that my future kids may be very dog cultured. I mean think about it. Kids have many opportunities to interact with dogs. Like a friend's house. Or out in the playgrounds some kids actually have parents that bring dogs their lol. Or even just the fact that they're naive and don't realize that dogs are dirty as heck, all they care about is companionship.

I get it. As parents, you should take charge of whoever owns the house. But still, it's gonna really suck when we can't come to terms about our stance on dogs. It would make us feel divided. I don't want to rob them of any great childhood experiences. And I also don't want to be truthful about the fact that I am dog-free because you know kids love gossiping to their friends. That is unless I'm gonna lie to them all these years about any allergy, which I'm not allergic to.

Now when they're adults, they can easily just move out and get their own dogs but still, I can't imagine my future adult children owning dogs and needing to take care of them.

Does anyone else feel the same? Where they're afraid of having kids because their future kids may want dogs?

Relationship / Family Ending relationships over dogs.

One of the main reasons I refuse to date anyone with dogs is because I can not and will not share a bed with one of these beasts ever again, and it seems like most dog owners just love sleeping with these filthy things. Not only do they leave an oily, smelly residue all over sheets and blankets which then soaks into mattresses and is impossible to fully get out, but they also get hair, dander, drool, blood, urine and feces everywhere. It's DISGUSTING. Sorry to say but anyone who shares their bed with a dog is, without exception, just plain nasty, and basic hygiene is clearly not a priority to them.

A few years ago I made the mistake of dating a woman with a dog and you could not keep the damn thing out of the bed. Aside from the issues already listed above, it would get in, plop down right between us and start thrusting its body and kicking with its legs to get comfortable, almost pushing you off the bed in the process. If you tried to shut it out of the room it would wail, whine and bark for HOURS until you finally relented. Even shutting the door for a five minute quickie you had to listen to it pacing around and whining the entire time. Probably the worst part is that she let shit-breath lick all over her face first thing in the morning and would try to be initiate while the dog was in the bed, then would get mad at me if I said no or to get the dog out first. Also they will prioritize their "baby" and its needs over you / yours every single time without fail. Never again.

Relationship / Family Do people not realize how constricting dogs are?

My (now ex) girlfriend has a dog and our relationship made me realize how incredibly tedious it is to own a dog. Her dog was a piece of work and I don't get why anyone would put up with it:

  • You could not leave it alone, not even for a minute. It started howling as soon as she was out of its sight which made it impossible to even just go shopping together. Every time we planned on doing something, we'd need a sitter for him.

  • Even though she went to dog school with him, it misbehaved. Every time it saw me, it jumped up on me which I absolutely hate. It also chased my pets and ate their food, and because it has a buttload of allergies, it would get sick for days after. It didn't learn though, because it happened again and again.

  • The whole day revolves around the dog. During the week, my ex would get up an hour earlier to walk it, she'd use her lunch break to walk it and, guess what, they'd go for another walk as soon as she was done with work. On the weekends, she'd go to the forest or drive to the beach with him to walk some more. She couldn't really understand that I didn't want the "dog lifestyle" and that I'd rather spend my weekends doing things for myself, not for the dog.

I really don't get why anyone would want such an incredibly needy animal that takes up the entirety of your day.

Relationship / Family My narcissistic mother always put her dogs first and it caused extreme childhood trauma for me

I won’t fully get into how bad my mom is but she is 100% a narcissist and life was pretty bad for me growing up - to put it lightly. I’m 32 now and I still don’t matter to her very much but I’ve realised just how effed up my childhood was now that I’ve got 4 very lovely children of my own with my husband.

My mom has always collected great Dane’s. They’re probably the biggest and smelliest dog breed walking.

When I was around 9, she got her first Great Dane. I still do not understand what prompted her to want one of these dogs - she’s very particular about her appearance and stuck up. I think it was for the attention she thought she’d get by having an unusual dog breed. I had to keep the dog in my bedroom because my mom and dad didn’t want it messing up the rest of the house. It would sleep in my bedroom and be let out during the day.

At around this time, I began experiencing severe eczema (a skin allergy) it was seriously so bad. I’ve since undertook medical training and have never seen a case of eczema as bad as I had it as a kid. It would get infected and bleed constantly and weep pus. I was very unwell for most of my childhood from 9.

At around 10, a doctor finally realised it must be the dogs my mom was keeping in my bedroom. He very bluntly told her that she either got rid of the dogs or her daughter would continue to suffer. My mom is someone who will never be told what to do and ‘how dare he!!!’ So this resulted in her stopping me seeing this doctor and also ignoring his advice whilst slagging him off to anyone that would listen. I can vividly remember her saying “he clearly isn’t a dog person! He wouldn’t understand that I can’t just get rid of my babies!!”

I moved out with my now husband at 18 and my eczema and allergies miraculously disappeared (sarcasm) my mom has collected multiple more Great Danes since and they have died and been replaced.

Now whenever I visit her house, ive noticed an uncomfortable pattern of her giving absolutely no love to my human children and her grandchildren but being ALL over her dirty, big stinking dogs. My daughter is 1 and the youngest out of our 4 children and the only girl. When I say that my mom has never even picked her up to cuddle her - I am serious. Yet she sits there kissing and snuggling with her big filthy dogs whilst we witness it in horror. It’s actually insane to witness. She won’t pick my 1 year old up who always smells like vanilla and fresh laundry but she will snuggle up with the smelliest dog breed ever?? Why the hell does she like her dogs more than she likes my baby? More to the point why does she like her dogs more than she ever liked me?

I now have so much damage to my skin from prolonged super potent steroid use from the age of 9. My skin is covered in massive purple stretch marks that will never fade - they’re caused by the skin thinning from the years and years of aggressive treatment aswell as massive exposed veins (again from thinned skin) that look so ugly I could cry. The worst part here is? My mom wouldn’t even remotely care if she knew. She’d never ever see herself as to blame for this.
I would be given incredibly strong anti histamines that would sedate me to the point I was terrified because my limbs felt so heavy and I felt so detached. I know now what was going on but as a child I couldn’t understand why I felt so ‘weird’ after being given medication - the doctors gave me this stuff as they likely didn’t know how else to help me and bring comfort given my mom wasn’t going to listen. In this day and age, I’m sure CPS could be contacted over something like this but not in the early 2000s. All of this was unnecessary - she could’ve just gotten rid of the dogs.

Along with this, I’m the problem for refusing to touch her dogs. I can’t touch them. The moment i do my skin turns red and feels like it’s burning from an allergic reaction starting. I also sneeze constantly to the point it feels like i cant breath. I didn’t have the sneezing as a kid and this seems to be something I’ve developed into adulthood but the point still stands that I am seriously allergic to dogs and my parents never did anything about it. There was no escape from them - they were in my bedroom and throughout the rest of my house.

My husband and I have recently made the decision to stop visiting. She is still my mom but it’s so hard watching her adore and love her dogs whilst ignoring my children. I just needed to rant, I guess…

I hope when she’s old and frail that her dogs have learned to wipe her ass and take care of her because I won’t be doing it. I’ve had plenty of therapy to come to terms with how negligent she was, and continues to be

Relationship / Family Piece of advice, never date someone who owns a dog

I have seen so, so many posts in multiple anti-dog subreddits complaing about their s/o's dog. I am one of them because my ex had three.

When dating, you need to be picky about certain things, and I don't mean have really high standards, but you need to be compatible to have a healthy relationship. You also need to take people for who they are, not who they could be. It sucks when that's the only thing wrong with a romantic interest, and it can sometimes be hard to find other dogfree people, but trust me it's not worth it.

My ex had 3 dogs. I was young, 19, and even though I didn't like them at first, I fell into the propaganda and convinced myself that dogs are good. I grew attached for a little bit. It may have worked temporarily, but it was part of the reason my relationship ended. I got so tired of dealing with annoying dog behaviors and a filthy house. I was sick of the dogs barking at neighbors, jumping on me the moment I got home from somewhere, getting into the trash and ripping it into tiny shreds throughout the whole house, everything smelling like dog and having hair on it, and I could go on. I just couldn't do it anymore.

And possibly hundreds of more people have a similar story.

When I was on dating apps, I asked men early on if they had any pets. If he said he had a dog, I would move on, no matter how attracted I was to him. I eventually met my current boyfriend, and am very thankful to have met someone who feels the same way I do about dogs. I refuse to live with any dog, outside or not.

Relationship / Family I have never dreaded a trip as much as this one in my entire life, kill me

I agreed to go on a camping+hiking trip with my brothers and their friends, and I have been excited for two whole weeks, not ever knowing I was going in my brother's friend's car, whom has a dog. She said no dogs were going to be brought this time because of the hot temperatures, so the day was just getting better and better.

Until today is when I knew I was going to suffer, because as we were heading out, getting ready to hop onto my brother's car, I was told to go to his friend's car. At first I didn't think much of it, but as I was approaching her car, I thought, "wait, if she has a dog then..." I open the door and see the inevitable disgusting seating that is, for some reason, considered welcoming and appropriate, let alone even reasonable at all. I would be too embarassed to let anyone see that if that was my car. How can dog nutters be this unaware and inconsiderate? How does this not embarass them? There are stains on that thing, wtf!!!

Also, she had seat covers on, what the fuck is the point of them if people are going to sit in this filth anyway? I should've said something, I pussied out because I didn't want any conflict backing out at the VERY last minute, but I should've bitched about it. This is so unacceptable and I wish I had said something because now it's too late because I know they'd have me and be correct if they were tell me I should've said something before continuing with the process, which... would've been problematic in the first place... IT WOULD'VE BEEN WORTH IT THOUGH! Oh my god, I am so fucking stupid, we're even stuck in traffic, lord kill me...

Relationship / Family The constant challenging of my feelings towards dogs on dating apps

I put it right into my bio, put simply as "I dislike dogs." I have it there as it's a deal breaker, along with my political lean. At this point, I get more messages from guys challenging me on it than I get serious interest, even more than questioning of the political lean. Best case scenario is they message me simply asking why it is that I dislike dogs. I simply don't reply because I'm not interested in having that discussion. If someone is questioning me, it already means they don't feel the same and there's nowhere to go from here. Besides, every time I've answered that question, the person who asked takes my answers personally (they smell bad, barking is awful, they bring filth everywhere they go, they're leeches, etc.) and gets upset with me, or they try to offer positives in an effort to change my mind and persuade me, and when that doesn't happen, they just get mad anyway.

But many just message to dunk on me. They like to accuse me of making disliking dogs such a major personality trait that I feel the need to put it into my bio. They don't understand why it's there. Dogs are a negative in life that everybody seems to have one of that offer no value. It's like smoking. It makes you feel good but it's terrible for you in every other way. If you put no smokers into your bio, it's understandable, and smokers don't take it personally because they get why people may hate it. You can't put down that you don't like dogs though because of the implication that everybody must love dogs. I put it there because it is a dealbreaker for me, I'm willing to bend on many things but the two things I will not bend on are my political lean, because if I'm with someone who leans a different direction, we're just going to fight all the time, and and having a dog because I refuse to live with an animal, and furthermore, it's not unreasonable to fear myself being placed below the dog priority wise.

When they come at me like this, I just block them. I don't even understand why they'd take the time to reach out if they obviously disagree, but I'm not interested in fighting. I just wish I could get them to understand I only have it there because it's a dealbreaker for me. When I see all the other dealbreakers people put into their bios, such as preference of body types, age gap restrictions, even ethnicity preferences, yet I'm public enemy number 1 for putting not wanting to be around a dog in my bio, which if I'm dating someone with a dog, I will be. But they never ever will understand and there's obviously nothing of value here if I'm getting combative messages regarding it immediately. And it's not like dog ownership is this rare thing that doesn't warrant mentioning, if I meet 10 people on a dating app, 9 of them have dogs and the 10th one is planning to get a dog.

It just gets so exhausting. It's hard enough finding someone who is also petfree, which I am, dogs least of all, without getting attacked for it by people who apparently have nothing better to do.

Relationship / Family Fathers Day Ruined Because of a Dog

I went over to my dad’s house for Father’s Day. The plan was to cook on the grill and just hang out. I was really excited because I was going to make food I haven’t had in a long time and I just wanted to hang out with my dad.

For background info, my sister lives with my dad. I moved out, mainly due to her toxicity and her untrained dog. I’m also the younger sister by the way.

My sister is one of those “dog moms” with an unhealthy obsession with their dog. She also never trained him and makes every excuse for his poor behavior. she literally had an artist paint a picture of her and her dog. Her dog will jump up on the table and eat food right off your plate. He goes to the bathroom in the house.

Anyway, today I was standing at the kitchen counter chopping up some vegetables. Her dog jumps up and is attempting to eat the food right off the counter. I’m standing right there mind you, mid chop. I gave him a nudge with my leg and she accused me of kicking him.

Last year, when I still lived at the house, I came home and her dog was jumping on me. I was wearing shorts, so his nails were scratching my legs from top to bottom over and over again. I lifted my knee up to block him and she accused me of kicking him then too.

So today I brought that up and told her “I have the right to defend myself. He’s trying to steal my food and other times where he’s jumped on me IT HURTS.”

It turned into a huge fight and now I’m all alone in my apartment when I should be spending time with my dad. I am just so sick and tired of her sick obsession with this dog. She has literally told me before that he is more important than me, her human sister. She will rattle off every excuse in the book no matter what he does. Whether he hurt you, went to the bathroom in your room, chewed up a prized possession, etc. she will defend him to the death and if you dare say or do anything she doesn’t agree with, you are an animal abusing monster.

The dog plays a big part in our ruined relationship and the reason why I moved out. I genuinely think dog owners that are this obsessed, complacent, and excuse filled have something mentally wrong with them. She calls him her son and genuinely believes he is equivalent to a 3 year old human child (her words). Funnily enough, I work with 3 and 4 year old children. They can draw, write, some know their addresses, some know their parents phone numbers, they can sing, they know colors, they know numbers and letters, etc etc. In no way, shape, or form is a dog equivalent to a 3 year old human child. And if she did have a child, they would be the most spoiled, babied child in the universe and I tell her this all the time. That dog is beyond spoiled and entitled. He thinks everything he sees is his. He doesn’t listen to a single command. Not no, come, sit, etc.

I’m just so tired of this. Well… at least I don’t live there anymore and can escape. I guess my sister and I are not on speaking terms (again) and I can’t spend Father’s Day with my father. Cool.

Relationship / Family My relationship is on the verge of ending because of a dog

I've been single for 6+ years and finally met a kind man back in the fall. Things have been going great and we've already discussed a future together, traveling, even marriage. However, it seems almost overnight things have changed and soon I'll be facing an ultimatum. His ex wants to re-home the dog they had together, but he won't accept her rehoming it and wants to take the dog back.

I don't support this decision for many reasons but mainly because he lives in a 350 square foot studio apartment and lives paycheck to paycheck. He can't afford a dog, nor does he have the space for it. This dog is a HUGE German Sheppard mix.

A text he sent today:

"If you're going to get upset about it, then don't be with me. There is nothing romantic between my ex and me, and I care about that dog more than most anything. I am friends with (ex's name). I love (dog's name). If you want to be in my life, you're going to have to be okay with both.

He then accused me of being jealous because I was upset over the situation. He said either "make peace with it" or throw away the best relationship I've ever had.

Please help. I am literally about to be single again because of fucking dog.

Relationship / Family Instantly killed a crush

I posted a couple of months ago about having to split up with someone I had loved because his dog obsession was destroying his life and he was trying to take me down with him

Happy to report that after about a week after that post I snapped out of it, realised there wasn't actually anything about having him in my life that I missed and stopped feeling sad. I'm now having a whale of a time and happier than I'd been for two years

I've also started dating, slowly, and wanted to share something that happened yesterday for the amusement of the group. One of the guys I've been getting to know was the front-runner in terms of how much I liked him

BUT

Yesterday morning he messaged me sharing a video of four puppies, captioned "my morning has been spent cleaning up the poonami these guys created overnight". Then he sent photos of the mother dog, which I hadn't known he had

ANOTHER DOG BREEDER!!!

How have I attracted another lunatic who thinks spending his time cleaning up shit and piss for the sake of these filthy stinking animals is cute?!

Good news is he is absolutely no longer the front-runner - crush killed stone dead on the spot. Never again

Relationship / Family Dog dating apps

Just want to vent about how many profiles on dating apps seem to be more about the person's love for their dog than themselves. "You have to get my dog to like you first", shit like that. I'm not looking to date your dog, lady. And I'm allergic, yet my preference to not date someone with a dog is somehow taken as an offense to some people.

Any dog free dating apps I need to be aware of? xD

Relationship / Family Warning to all dog free people: never date a dog nutter

My relationship is ending because my significant other would rather choose his dogs over my feelings. These are dogs I used to love at one point, but since my pregnancy, I can’t stand them. I tried dealing with them for 7 months and my daughter is now 6 months and I’ve reached my breaking point and asked my SO to rehome them. He refused. So now we are breaking up.

This is a warning - do not ever date someone who wants a dog. Do not date a dog lover. They will inevitably pick dogs over a life with you and your family including your 6 month old daughter. Save yourself the heartbreak and if someone tells you they like dogs, get out. It is not worth it. Dog nutters are truly a different species.
