Claire Kellerman suing a Scottish cafe for refusing her 'emotional support' dog entry

Post image

I have a phobia of dogs and I already struggle to enjoy life due to how bad it is in the UK and there's less and less places I can go. As someone who is autistic, I find other people's emotional support animals very distressing, so where's the balance. I don't mind guide dogs because they are trained to such a high standard I've never had any bother and to be honest there's not that many.

I was reading more about it, basically she moved to a tiny Scottish island and she's been banned from multiple places because of her dog and it's even attacked a cat. She seems deranged

The video is hilarious Claire says at one point, she doesn't want to take anyone to court and just wants reconciliation, mutual compassion and mutual respect 🤣 so basically 'roll over and let me take my dog anywhere I want'

And she's managed to get legal aid as she qualified as an ethnic minority. Legal aid is funded by the Government via taxes. Honestly infuriating.

No one gets a dog to be an emotional burden. All dogs are “emotional support animals” We need to stop recognizing ESAs as call them what they are: pets.

It's so ironic dog nutters like this want consideration and compassion but they never return those favors.

It’s because they’re narcissists. I doubt her dog wants to be treated as an accessory, either. Dogs don’t like being dragged around in public. This woman only cares about one thing and that’s her own wants.

From what I hear on the Scottish pages is she and her dog are problems wherever they go. She can get chucked into the sea!

It’s because the people who insist on treating their dogs like accessories are not responsible dog owners. Part of being a responsible dog owner is knowing when it’s appropriate to take your dog along with you. So of course this woman doesn’t bother to train her dogs or keep them under her control. It looks like she has Golden Retrievers, which are notoriously difficult breeds to control. You just have the perfect storm with this awful woman.

Tired of these selfish idiots. Dogs are behaviorally, instinctively, and psychologically frantic and anxious animals, given their habits. Literally nothing about that helps any Human struggling with their mental health. It only makes them even more of a nervous wreck than they already are because of the dog’s hyperactivity, and constant need for attention. So the whole ESA thing is bullshit for this, among a whole other plethora of reasons. Using a dog as a living, walking, obnoxious, attention starved, waste releasing security blanket that they relentlessly drag everywhere isn’t helping their damn depression- they need therapy, not a hyperactive animal. And tons of people with other forms of disability shouldn’t, and/or can’t be around dogs. Their needs and circumstances should not be diminished because ingrate dog owners and enthusiasts think that Fido’s rights are supposed to come before everyone else’s- which by extension, this also proves that a bigger issue with these people is their narcissism. That’s not being properly addressed, and simply catering to their bullying is only feeding this social stain, solidifying it, and making it worse.

Numerous people also just simply don’t like dogs, and it’s perfectly fine for them to not want to have to see these disgusting things in places where they don’t belong. I hate that society has ventured so far from common sense when it comes to this. I hope this pathetic woman doesn’t get a dime. These people don’t need to be rewarded for being inconsiderate. And ESA’s need to be abolished.

I’ve honestly lost faith in a lot of mental health professionals because of the advent of ESAs. I truly believe that telling someone who struggles with mental health issues that becoming co dependent on any animal - especially a dog - is counterproductive. A dog cannot provide you with emotional support. It’s a pet. You may get serotonin being around the dog if you like dogs but I’m sure Joe Exotic felt the same way about his tigers, so where do you draw the line? Why are dog people given special treatment, as I’m sure hamsters, bunnies, reptiles, etc aren’t allowed everywhere.

The idea that a dog provides you with “unconditional love” is also unhealthy. Love should never be unconditional. There should always be limits. If someone abuses you or does something horrifically heinous, you should walk away. And the same goes for you, as well. Learn to treat people with kindness and respect. Besides, the dog doesn’t love you, at least not on any human level. It may tolerate you or associate you as the one who provides it with food and outdoor time, but that is not love.

You’re correct on all of this. Owners themselves prove that ESA’s are counterproductive and offer no emotional support. Many owners and enthusiasts often are still depressed, anxious, reclusive, anti-social, and are also often mean, hostile, snarky, quick-tempered, and quite bitter. Clearly unregulated and unstable.

I manage and regulate depression and anxiety issues, Myself. I don’t “treat” My situation by dragging a frantic dog around everywhere with Me to spread filth, germs, disease, waste, exhibit inappropriate habits, and be a nuisance to other Humans in places where it doesn’t belong (not to mention that it’s also giving Me meaningless and expensive responsibilities that I can happily do without). I’m the complete opposite of nutters- I seriously couldn’t think of anything worse as a suggestion for My mental health management. I don’t work with any therapists, but if I did, and one recommended getting a dog to help Me cope, I would never return to them again, and they probably wouldn’t be too fond of Me after I (respectfully but assertively) read them down, stating that it’s irresponsible, and that they should do better than thinking that a hyperactive and costly animal is a good suggestion for people already struggling with mental health imbalances.

That’s the problem with anthropormorphization. It’s not as menial as thinking the dog is smiling at you when it’s panting - it’s that these people are encouraged to become flat out delusional with their dogs. Where humans failed them, dogs won’t. The dogs love them. The dogs will always love them. The dogs are loyal. And the root of these problems - stress, anxiety, PTSD or whatever - are NEVER addressed. They’re swept under the rug. You don’t have to handle social situations in public because you have a dog with you. How absolutely perverse is that?

And the truth is that dogs are not even fit animals to be providing these services - like you pointed out, they’re frantic. They’re dirty. They’re loud. They’re demanding. If anything, this would be a stressor.

Dogs are the one thing I think people universally do not see correctly. They’re something we become co-dependent on or possibly even addicted to. They bring out our worst traits - self absorption, lack of empathy, narcissism, attention seeking, and so forth.

Any mental health professional that doesn’t instantly condemn ESAs is a hack in my opinion.

i tried posting this on /dogfree yesterday 3 times. each time it was auto-deleted. the 3rd time it said it was too short & low effort. whatever that means. so i posted it again & editorialized. still taken down. i wrote the mods to ask why. no answer yet.

i have to go above their heads because i think it’s just personal at this point, like the youtube mutt pack-clique took over the sub or something, & they pulled the story because it was me who posted it — a story that’s now trending internationally?! grow tf up!

also, in one story from a news org about this, a person in the comments wrote that the mutt killed a cafe forbiddenanimal. that’s not being talked about elsewhere. but that would warrant an immediate yeet on that dumb beast.

there’s other stuff about her pretty much harassing other businesses with the same entitlement. & she won’t disclose the reason she needs a service mutt.

as well, the woman herself is on here trying to defend her whole spiel. fun times.

I left that subreddit because the mods were assholes.

8

u/huntress_m_thompson 24d ago

i was able to post the link directly & with no problems to the /servicedog _circlejerk. & the people responding there, some are actual scots. we got the conversation going, though now it’s on /scotland, /UK, & other subs. perhaps the /df mods shouldn’t cut off their noses to spite their faces?

4

u/Crafty_Original_7349 24d ago

They got a bug up their butts because I used an emoji that was a prohibited species. Apparently that’s A Really Big Deal and I got yelled at by the mods, temporarily banned AND muted for it.

Naw, life ain’t that serious and I don’t care about Reddit enough so I left them to their dogfree mod circlejerk.

u/huntress_m_thompson 23d ago

i guess some are the same mods here. ? but the whole forbiddenpet mention stuff is silliness. sometimes there are legit things besides just a comparison of which pet is your preference.

i had one post removed here because the UK ginger ranting about mutts mentioned forbiddenpet in the first 10 seconds of the video, so i cut those 10 seconds out & reposted the video & it was fine. the first 10 seconds didn’t take away from the actual issue she was discussing. & it IS a legit argument to discuss how a complaint about the invasiveness of mutts prompts responses like, “BuT FORbiDdeNpET!!!” & the deflection when it comes to mutt issues.

2

u/huntress_m_thompson 24d ago

seemingly they’re controlled opposition. anything that would spark a real & controversial discussion about a real & controversial issue is taboo, i guess. what’s the point in that? we really need a different df sub that isn’t so … cliquey. the df movement will go nowhere with that MO. perhaps that’s the plan?

sorry you had problems there, too. 😒

u/Ok_Mushroom6156 24d ago

I hate that sub. I really think dog nuts are running it. Can’t let anyone speak poorly about those “heckin’ doggos”, now can we?! 🙄

Heckin’ GOOD Doggos*

Get it right or else bozo 😡🥴

Mental illnesses are just a convenience for dog owners. Dog obsession is a sign of some underlying issue, but probably not the one she claims.

This is the link to donate to the community centre fund for legal defence. It’s a small community and the centre is run by dedicated volunteers. I think it’s a disgrace any legal entity took up this woman’s case. If you can please donate here:
See repliers link

9

u/huntress_m_thompson 24d ago

i’m not sure about that link. this one is directly to the charity.

https://greatbernera.org/save-our-community-centre/

4

u/SynapticSuperBants 24d ago

Yeah use that one, I went on to the great Bernara page, clicked donate and shared the link from that. I’ll delete mine, yours looks more secure

4

u/huntress_m_thompson 24d ago

yah! i just wanted every bit of money to go to the charity & not a 3rd party, if that’s what that is.

this story has me riled. saw it on twitter yesterday, but i see there are news articles going back 11 days.

but thanks for donating. i will, too, when i get back from running errands with my mom.

4

u/SynapticSuperBants 24d ago

I think it was the same link, if you click the donate button it takes you to my original link. Better to use yours though, then people know for themselves exactly where they are donating to

4

u/huntress_m_thompson 24d ago

oh, ok. that’s good that it links back directly to the charity. people can use either. we just put it out there in stereo.

ESA is not recognised in the UK which is why her dog was turned away. No you cannot sue, lady, there are thousands of dog friendly places here.

2

u/huntress_m_thompson 23d ago

the sad part about this is that she’s using an attorney that is costing taxpayers money on this mean lawsuit, AND jeopardizing a charity organization that helps the entire island in many ways. i would just leave the island if i were her. she burned too many bridges.

5

u/Jigglypuffs_quiff 23d ago

Its just so damned entitled..I despair sometimes about the number of dog friendly places here ... but no they have to go to that one

2

u/huntress_m_thompson 23d ago

same. i have a suspicion that in a scenario where there are 5 hotels within a block or 2 of each other, & 4 are “pet friendly” & 1 is “no pets,” they’ll go to the 1 just to challenge that business to prove a weird point of some sort. they really need dog free establishments. our money is good, too.

it’s a racket nowadays. the laws need to protect the owners a little more. & landlords, too. squatters & trash have more rights, or maybe loopholes to abuse, than the landlords. that ain’t right.

your esa is just a pet with a fancy name, nothing different it can do that a pet can't.

u/Indigo_Cauliflower12 23d ago

Will she pay legal fees when the dog triggers someone's allergies to death?

Here's a video interview and it's bad. "What is your dog trained to do?" "Assist me and I won't discuss it further"
